Peasants were, for the most part, highly illiterate!

Do you know how much paperwork you need to READ in order to get a gun license?
And then how much more you need to READ and WRITE to actually buy the gun?
Plus you need a WELL PAYING JOB to afford the cost of the gun, shipment, ammunition, and special tools needed to clean it?
Which, by the way, you need to READ a manual for to know how to properly disassemble and clean the gun so you don't accidentally blow your own hand off.
