Well, if you practice in advance and look in stores that have surplus clothes, there may not actually be that much sewing involved. My Holo cosplay involved maybe...three sewed sections? Most clothes I had found fairly easily in stores, and pretty much my entire Toon Link costume was bought in stores. The most challenging one I've done to date is Oki, but that's because I could find NOTHING in the color of his clothes and shirts are a ***** to make. :| So yeah, in my experience it can be quite a bit cheaper that way. xD

Honestly, I spent about $100 at the convention, most expensive thing I bought was a $20 Okamiden poster I couldn't not buy. And besides, even with all the stuff there, you can be pretty entertained for free. The thing that easily made my day was Advent and Rayku having a Pokemon battle against Team Rocket using maids as Pokemon. :'D Make of it what you will, my friend.
