The only way to avoid Doom, is to use a Zero card as soon as he does it. So if you see he's got the cards ready, get to a Zero card and just dodge until he uses it. Then, the second he uses it, use the Zero card.
As he said, it's fake. I've seen the pic and you can tell it's fake. It's just an edited pic from after they hug. They do not kiss at all in any of the games, sadly.
