Edward sat up, only being half asleep already. Being able to see perfectly in the dark, he could see Hannah's outline just inside the door. "Come over here," he whispered, looking over at Van Helsing and the others. They were all still asleep.
Van Helsing lay on his bed after he put out all the candles. He knew Edward was still awake.
"When, then, now that that's settled," Van Helsing said, smiling. "We will see you in the morning, Carl. Goodnight to the rest of... wait," he paused. "Where the hell is Beatrice?"
"Ah, Hannah," Van Helsing began. "This is my good friend, Carl, who will be joining us on our way back to Transylvania. Unfortunately, the Order wants me to go back to the village we came from the kill the last of the werewolves in that family... then Carl can help us find Dracula."
"Oh, Carl, before you go," Van Helsing spoke as Edward lay down to sleep. "You need to be properly introduced to Hannah." There was silence for a moment. "Edward," Van Helsing began. "Go see if Hannah is still close so she can meet Carl before he goes back to the Vatican."
"I think she should determine that in the morning," Van Helsing replied. Carl nodded. "We all should rest and then meet at the stables as if we are ready to leave. Carl..." he turned to the friar. "Do you know where the Vatican wants us to head... a general direction, maybe?"
"What happened?" Van Helsing asked.
Just when Van Helsing was about to speak, Edward slammed himself into the room, shutting the door quickly behind him. The man gave him an embarrassed grin. "Later," Van Helsing muttered to Jinx, and then spoke up to Edward: "Well! Have you lost her, then?"
"I suppose so..." Van Helsing mused, looking over at Jinx. I didn't want to tell him about what you and the rest are without your consent first! he tried to tell her with his mind. He sighed. I'll have to talk to her about it later.
"Brilliant!" Van Helsing exclaimed, taking the gun from Carl. "But I do enjoy the noise it makes..."
"Ah, I see," Van Helsing laughed at Carl's vague answer. "Invent anything new lately?"
"So... Carl..." Van Helsing began, as an awkward silence fell. "How is your life... here in Rome... friends, work, love life, stories to tell... hmm?"
"Ah, Jinx, dear," Van Helsing began, putting a hand on her shoulder to stop her. "If Edward thinks he can go, let him... he'll just go crazy in here if he stays."
'Well, we have food here in this room, and we were hoping to all eat together, but our other lady seems to have gone missing. We also have our... third lady, Beatrice, out at the stables. Can hardly get her away from those horses..." Where the hell is Hannah?" he thought.
"Thank you for the cooperation," Van Helsing said. "It's good to have someone not aruge for once."
