Van Helsing swallowed, waiting.
"All the same," Van Helsing snapped, trying to catch Jinx's eye despite his fading focus. "We are on a schedule and need to move soon."
Van Helsing pulled out his bow now, pulling the round of arrows into place. "Sir," he began again. "We need to be on our way, so if you wouldn't mind..."
"Heads up, Beatrice," Van Helsing called, and yanked hard on Sorin's and Lexi's reigns, getting them to stop quickly. Beatrice had to stop fast behind him. "Can we help you, sir?" he began, turning in his seat, one hand behind his back where his bow rested.
"I'm going to stop," Van Helsing said back to Jinx, Beatrice, and Carl, and then looked down to see Edward. "Keep that gun out, please."
"Jinx..." Van Helsing began, turning his head slightly to look back at the carriage. "Can you see who's out there? There's... someone in the road..."
Van Helsing frowned to himself as the carriage started to move. He considered listening to Hannah and Edward, but decided to let them be... the idea to look into Jinx's mind and see what she was thinking was also a strong temptation, but he thought better of it. Instead he just stared at the road ahead.
"Ready?" Van Helsing asked the other carriage, pushing his hat down farther on his head.
Van Helsing was going to say something, but swallowed his retorts to Jinx and Edward. He climbed into the driver's seat, grabbed Lexi and Sorin's reigns, and sighed. "Go on, then," he said to Jinx, Carl, and Beatrice. "Let's go."
"What happened with John?" Van Helsing demanded, not having enough patience to beat around the bush.
"I should take that gun from Edward," Van Helsing mused, seeing it in the man's hands. "He doesn't look like he should have that right now."
"She doesn't look happy," Van Helsing said when he saw Hannah's face. "I bet it was John."
"I see," Van Helsing confirmed, lowering his bow. "Shall we ask them what happened?"
"Wait," Van Helsing began, raising his bow to his ear and standing still. "Listen. Something's coming this way..."
'They're still gone and something's wrong. Carl says to wait..." Van Helsing stopped, calming as he looked at her. "What shall we do? Let them be or see where they are?"
"I'll find them," Van Helsing sighed, and headed off in the directions of the trees, his bow with him this time.
Van Helsing woke up, seeing the sky was dark outside the carriage window. Where is everyone? he thought, looking around. I don't like this... Jinx, Beatrice, Hannah, and Edward all missing? Perfect time for Carl and I to go...
Edward winced, his mind conflicted. "Please let her go," he tried, his hand straying to the gun by his side.
Van Helsing only pretended to sleep.
"That is all completely insane," Van Helsing muttered, putting his hat over his face. "Go to sleep, Carl."
