Sex? It does that to you. Don't worry about it, we have years to open the gates. Hell, the gates have been there for a few million years anyway.

So I had a virus, and I got it fixed. The trojan variety. I thought everything was sunshine and rainbows, but now I realized that none of the beautiful add ons here work. For instance, I try to click on the I sign above any quick reply or reply, and it doesn't register I've clicked on it. Every internet page has a "Done" with an error sign on it. I have to manually type if I want to enter a color into my text, a different size change, or such.

I wouldn't mind or ask for help, but it's affecting my being able to answer messages and post regularly. Halp?

    Midnight

And here's the next chapter, number four. The site is giving me issues, so hang tight if something seems off.

    Hunting

Creeping into the room, her ears caught the sound of distant fighting. The woman had found those two then. She flicked her ears forward, eyes reflecting the small light. A staircase going up, a staircase going down…which way? She knew whichever way she picked, if she was wrong, the man would escape. Rachel crept toward the basement stairs, her paws making no noise on the wooden floors.

Waiting at the top of the stairs, she pressed her belly low to the ground, heart pounding. A small black shadow moved around at the bottom. She had one chance, one moment. Her muscles bunched, then spread as she leaped, hurting the ten feet down into the inky blackness, onto something soft. An acidic like smell burned her sensitive nose, making her sneeze. Something was off.

Too late she realized why. The body below her was just a body, of a girl. It wasn’t alive. She turned, almost too slow, her cat eyes widening in surprise as the club came down on her head, making her fall to the ground, gasping as the world spun. The girl was dead, and the smell was blood. She felt herself shift, then stop. Her head hurt too much, she was stuck in between.

She still had the ears of a cat, but her human hair had grown back, her long dark brown hair pooling on the floor. Rachel’s eyes were still greenish gold, with the pupils slitted, and her incisors stuck out below her upper lip, cutting into the lower one. She had human hands and feet, but cat fur covered her instead of skin. The man stood above her, as she struggled to her hands and knees, then clubbed her again.

“They send a beast in? All sorts of animals they‘re making these days.†He sneered at her, poking her gently, and realized she looked dead. Keeping still was hard, but she managed, keeping her eyes still. He turned his back, and a clicking noise began. Trying to keep her thoughts in order, through the head pounding, she realized he was typing something on a keyboard. A computer?

Rachel tried to stand, but her knees wobbled, and she stayed down. No no, come on come on……The man turned back, sneer still in place. God…..she knew what he did. First he killed his victims, or wounded them, and then played with them. She struggled, but her body just wouldn’t obey her.

Something leaped over her, tackling the man, and a struggle ensued. There was a flash of silver, a yelp, and silence. Rachel got to her knees, her head whirling. Had one of her pack gotten hurt? A hand steadied her, helped her sit back. “Jesus, Jason, are you okay? What‘s the status?†She asked, one hand to her head. Something was pressed into her hand. Water. She drank from the bottle gratefully, taking deep breaths.

“There was only one body in the house, two waiting to be disposed. The woman is dead. Greg is taking the two bodies along with hers to the police.†Rachel nodded, pressing her face into her knees. Her tail twitched, making her spine tingle. “The man…you killed him?†She not so much as saw as heard him nod, the light hairs brushing his face. “Poor Greg will have to make a second trip.†she murmured, then sighed. As the breath left her lungs, she felt her ears shift back to normal, skin take the place of fur, her tail shrunk.

Now fully human, and only half clothed, she looked up, her eyes back to green. Her dark brown hair fell halfway to her waist in straight lengths, covering most of her body. Jason wordlessly handed her some clothing, things she always kept nearby. She murmured her thanks, then pulled the long sleeved shirt and jeans on. “The girl….†her voice drifted off, though her eyes remained clear. “She‘s dead?†Another nod, and Rachel sighed, then slowly crossed the room and turned the girl over. She would have been pretty, given another few years.

Rachel turned away, knowing she had added another face to her nightmares. “Is Greg okay with it? I can do this too…†her excuses drifted away again as Jason placed another hand on her shoulder. “It‘ll be fine.†he murmured. “How many hits did you take?†he asked, his eyes on her face. Their relationship was always like that. They understood each other, and he knew about her gift, and her past, or what she knew of it.

“Two….†she rubbed her head, then winced. “So much for being the best. He used the girl as a decoy. I should have known.†She smiled a little, her teeth still sharpened, she realized. “Let‘s get something to eat.†Jason suggested, raising his eyebrows slightly. “I‘ll call the others.†Rachel looked up the stairs, her eyes widened. “God…..We missed school?â€

Jason nodded, clicking the phone shut. Rachel couldn’t remember him taking it out, then realized she was sitting down again. She frowned slightly, then protested as he picked her up. “If you fall again, I‘ll have to take you to the hospital.†He warned her mildly, walking up the stairs without any effort. While he rarely said something, he meant what he did say. Rachel shut up until they got to the top of the stairs. “If you don‘t put me down, I‘ll make you suffer.†she warned.

Two hours later the five were all sitting around a table in the back of a local diner. Rachel gazed down at the plastic table, distant chatter reaching her ears. She tuned it out, then looked up, tapping her finger against the counter. Shia was working her way through a pile of French toast, her green eyes alight with contentment. Tanya played with her fork, her plate clean of even crumbs. Greg and Jason both drank from their bottles, whatever they had ordered. Rachel herself had ordered hash browns, and a shake, but her stomach felt strange with the food. S mentally cursed herself for eating so soon after changing. “Okay, guys.†She spoke up, keeping her voice pitched low. “Next plan, school field trip.â€
