You've been putting it off but it's decision time, you have two shotguns in front of you and only enough room to carry one. The first is a sawn off double barrel shotgun that fires special extra heavy rounds. It makes use of its special kickback mechanisms and the slow explosives of the rounds it fires to literally throw the user back. You've used it to extend your jumps or even slow down your falls. It's a great gun and you nicknamed it the Force o' Nature. The second gun is your first personal gun, a pump action shotgun. A basic six shot modification, a replaced trigger mechanism. A shorter, reinforced barrel. Just about that actually, it looks very similar to how it did when you first got it. It'd even have your real name on it from when your father first gave it to you on your ninth birthday if you hadn't filed it off in case someone got their hands on it. You'd have time travel, not full on manipulation, but you'd be able to see the world as if it was slowed down and you'd be able to access any point in the timeline. Since the rules aren't even totally defined, there's nothing saying that you couldn't move people throughout time and space as well. There's much more to the world than any of us know and this power gives not only a chance to understand the universe but more utility than all the other powers combined since there is literally no limit. You'd even have theoretically infinite time to think over your decisions and examine the world.
Since your motivation is ambition, why wouldn't you choose chi? Theoretically speaking the peak of power would be chi user. Reaching beyond lightspeed should give you everything that Void can give you and you have the reactions and fighting capacity to be invincible as well. So even if you cannot guarantee your own safety by breaking light speed, you don't fear death so it comes with no downsides. So why pick void over chi?
Ambition isn't a positive or negative trait. It's just a way some people are. I'm not ambitious. I know I'm not disciplined enough to become a chi user, I know I'm not smart enough to become a mental mage, I know I'm not solitary enough to become a hermit and I know I'm not to be trusted with universe warping power. So I do what I can, no more, no less. One day you'll see.
I don't see it anywhere saying I needed to completely kill people to draw energy from them or that I had to draw energy from people at all. I don't plan on using large scale magics so there's no threat of me running into many problems with energy sources. It's more like insurance in case something a normal human can't deal with comes up so I won't need much energy stored and if someone's after my life I'd kill them regardless of whether I had the power or not, I can just make it worth something with this magic. I already dislike dealing with people, things wouldn't change much. That is just unrealistic.
I don't see how. My drawbacks would never cause my immediate and direct death and they don't interrupt my daily lifestyle.
Is it bad that I feel that if most of you are looking only at the advantages and not the costs and drawbacks?
