    Yeah, maybe.

I'm definitely feeling stir crazy with so many inactive members. Everywhere I look, I'm seeing people talking about the need for new cases, but seeing no one fill the need.

    The waiting game kills me.

I felt he was wishy-washy because of that thing about The Fuk's view change (What view change? He said he was suspecting me from Day 1), but more importantly how ready he was to paint me as a threat, then moving back to seeing me as an asset, then as a threat again.

Throughout all of his monologue-ing, he didn't ask me a single question. He didn't try to figure me out. He didn't vote me to get my attention. He just waited for someone else to agree with him so that he could vote for me safely.

    Rubs me as weird.[DOUBLEPOST=1409084288][/DOUBLEPOST]
About this. Before I die, I'd like to say that I don't think Marushi is scum. Don't flip onto her just because she found me suspicious. She's too careless and flamboyant, and dare I say she's honest. I'm reading her as clumsy town for now.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I made cases and got info on two alternates. If you're open to the idea that I'm not mafia, then it's at least worth considering that I might be right. The Fuk? for being dishonest and his actions making a lot of sense from a mafia perspective. default for being wishy-washy and only voting me after a wagon formed and I had cased him.

I'm not seeing the 'have I mentioned I am town today?' thing, though I guess it stands out to newbies. It's not something I do consciously.

There is one thing I can cleanly cut through. Scum is a well known mafia term for all anti-town roles. The official site for mafia information is called http://mafiascum.net/ in reference to that.

Some scum-based terms that people use often are:
    • Obvscum: Someone who is obviously aligned against town.
    • Scumtell/Scum tell: A sign that someone is aligned against town.

Contrast with mafia, which only includes one anti-town alignment:
    • Obvmafia: Someone who is obviously mafia aligned. Could not be town or third party.
    • Mafiatell/Mafia tell: A sign that someone is aligned with the mafia instead of town or third party.

I chalk this one up to lack of experience on your guys' part, but I shouldn't have to repeat it more than once like this.

Reminds me to chastise you when you lose.

    Unless you are mafia.

I know you didn't try to refute it. That's the problem. Ignoring my defenses is not helpful in any way. In a way, it's intentionally hiding your thoughts. You are being passive aggressive.

For example, "intended to refute": This implies you disagree with my defense. You decided that it needs to be refuted, not agreed with. But you didn't come out and say so, I had to pump you for it.

What's the deal with the hiding?

You repeated yourself. You gave no new thoughts.

    Request is unfulfilled.

If you're going to respond to my defense, it's prudent to actually address it. Don't make it even more of a waste of time. Did what I said bring some perspective or not?

I know I said I wouldn't defend myself, but this little trip up is getting annoying.

The word choice for Beau stood out because it was the only tell for anyone so far in the game. Beau had no town tells to make that word choice seem incongruous. It looked mafia-ish because there was nothing to make him look town. I made it clear that the word choice could be overlooked if he were more helpful to town or changed things around in some other way. I only kept my suspicion on him because he did absolutely nothing to convince me he had town's interests as his own, until he dropped out. It isn't cherry picking if there are no contrary examples to pick from. In his case, not just one or two things pointed to it, but ALL of his posts supported by idea. The ones that didn't outright contain direct alienation from town did not contain things that brought him closer to town.

In my case, I have a great deal of content to work with. Considering the number of times I have said things like 'us', 'we', 'as a team', and so on about town, the other examples are cherry picking because they don't explain the big picture. You'd be ignoring that they contradict the big picture. They also make perfect sense in the context of the way I talk about alignments. The context of explaining what makes sense as an alignment gives it a reason in the big picture.

Your problem with my using the word choice ignores the big picture. It ignores everything else I said. It ignores all I have done and whether or not it is good for town. It amounts to "You did what you accused Beau of doing" or, simpler, "you're a hypocrite". You don't attempt to explain why I changed my tune, if that is what you think I did. You don't attempt to explain why my saying that makes me sound anti-town. In fact it's clear the sole reason you think it's bad is because I accused Beau of it. If I hadn't accused Beau of it, you wouldn't have thought twice about that bit of word choice.

The tell is relative. You don't get a bad feeling from the word choice by itself. It doesn't change the big picture. You wouldn't give it a second thought if it weren't for my case against Beau. It rubs you the wrong way because it makes you think I'm a hypocrite, not because it alienates me from town.

In short, you are ignoring your own reads of what makes sense for mafia to do and are arguing against me personally. It made sense for me to see that as a mark that against Beau because there was no contrary evidence or explanation for it. It does not make sense to see this as a mark against me because there is a lot of contrary evidence and an explanation for it.

As a general tip, you should focus your reads on things that bother you on their own merit. Especially focus on things that change the big picture. If you really think that one word choice changes or overthrows my entire behavioral pattern in the game, I'm sorry, I misjudged you. Otherwise, refocus your energy on things that change the way you read everything I say, not just a piece of a sentence in one of my many essays.

Before I forget, there is already a soft lynch against me. Adding a vote will do nothing. Your post isn't prodding me or anyone else for more info. It doesn't contain a vote. It's a repetition of what's already been said.

Please focus on doing something useful.

Adding a vote of confidence here: TheWorldThatNeverWas has been acting strangely. When they contribute it seems to be out of a sense of obligation to do something with no game plan.

Wasn't able to answer my prods about their reasoning for the Day 1 actions and ended up not contributing much in the end.

    Worth looking into.

I've already put up all the defense I can offer to these types of arguments, and as I've said before I believe that spending a lot of time defending myself is a waste of town's time. I prefer to hunt scum than protect myself, especially if it gets into repetitious territory. I'll definitely expand on that if I die.

    Short hand defenses:

    If I've got this right:
    - I am mafia because I am too much like town. - Defense: What am I reading? This is beyond bizarre.
    - I am mafia because I am too controlling. - Defense: I've been prodding people to gather info and take initiative. I haven't told anyone what to do or who to vote for. The closest I've come to controlling people is asking people questions about the intent behind their actions. I want others to be active and think critically. Maybe I have different standards for what's controlling but I don't think that is.
    - I am mafia because I am too aggressive. - Defense: I don't think there is such a thing unless you're pushing for a hard lynch or something else not in support of town, like having tunnel vision, ignoring valid points, or actively misrepresenting the target. From my perspective, I am going after the people with the most red flags. All of the counter arguments against me stem from things like 'that could be innocent'. It's true, just about nothing in this game can be proven beyond a doubt. Most things by themselves could be a coincidence. When the coincidences pile up, the story changes...

Here's the thing. If I think you're scum, I'll hunt you until I know you're not scum. No innocent until proven guilty stuff. I know there is at least one scum out there. If you look like the most likely to be that scum, I'll assume you're scum because sitting around all 'I don't know who scum is' isn't helping anyone.

Even when I'm not sure, I often push the person to the point that they think I am serious. Many people, in this game in particular, don't respond well to light prods. In fact a lot of the time they don't respond much at all. Pushing people is the only way to gather info aside from a straight vote fest. That leaves little in the way of clues. This whole game seems to be in a bit of a rut where people are just waiting for something to happen. I want to break as many out of that as I can.

That should cover all of the bases.[DOUBLEPOST=1409012655][/DOUBLEPOST]Should go without saying, but I'll not be defending myself again today.

It's time you guys got some info on other people, who aren't already dying.

At this point we have a soft lynch on me and I have said my piece on everything.

My reads are still The Fuk? > default for the reasons previously stated.

At least if I die you'll learn from it.

@What?: Still waiting on that promised opinion from you.

@Calxiyn: The case against Beau was specifically in the absence of pro-town content when no other tells were forthcoming. Your accusation is false about the initial thing being the only evidence. It was the important bit but I quoted another post that supported my view. The whole case had two posts alienating him from town and his general reaction to being challenged to strengthen the suspicion. Tells + not helping town = pretty strong case, especially for Random Voting Stage.[DOUBLEPOST=1409008710][/DOUBLEPOST]@Marushi: That's not a bad point about The Fuk's vote on Krowley. I thought he hadn't voted except for that one time at the end. That does lessen my suspicions a bit regarding the vote.[DOUBLEPOST=1409008875][/DOUBLEPOST]Aaah, also @Calxiyn: I never pushed for a hard lynch. In fact, as soon as we had a soft lynch on Beau I pushed people to pres contrary cases so that we didn't tunnel on a guess. I'm not sure where you got this idea.[DOUBLEPOST=1409009494][/DOUBLEPOST]It appears I miscounted. One away from a soft lynch.

    Sorry for misleading you.
