Well, there really is no need to kill ourselves, we're gonna die one way or another. It's kinda like a soldier killing himself before going out to the battlefield. I say we should enjoy life as long as we can without worrying about the planet dying.
I have the same fear, except with insects in general. One way to get over your fear is to study about them, assure yourself they won't do anything, and then ask mom, dad, relatives, friends etc. about how they got over their fears.

I actually had a thought with your post. Lets say like when the mark of mastery happens, Riku loses because of the darkness in his heart. And then some kind of form of darkness and/or Xehanort tempts him with more darkness to be stronger.
Lion King is a good movie. I don't know how I feel about it coming back in 3D though. Disney tends to do these kind of things a lot.
By that, I mean Riku turning back into an enemy. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen. Riku still has darkness in his heart, not necessarily Ansem SoD, but still is there.
