Yes they are good..you should play them..I highly suggest you do..But if you need help selecting one..get Platinum..it's the best out of the 3.
Have you any idea what D/P/P look like? If you haven't then of course the Engine's are different...from what you said earlier..
You mean the weather? I'd like to see some changes in the weather..like insted of it only raining in certain routes..have it randomly rain in towns and city's..or even snow possibly. I could name a few things that need an upgrade.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But did R/S use the same engine too?
Not really..it has the same graphics as D/P/P to me....the 3d buildings Etc..the animated pokemon sprites if we see those in the game. And so on..we'll just wait till we play the game to figure it out..
I wonder if they've changed anything around in the game..but G/S/C were a bit harder than the old R/B/Y with the caves and such..a bit more challenging in my case..
