A new Japanese trailer came out, including a couple of interesting tidbits! Firstly, you may have noticed a character with a remarkable similarity to Professor Oak--this character is Samson Oak, the Professor's cousin, who researches Alolan formes of Pokémon. The second note of interest is one of the text boxes featured in the trailer, a line being spoken by a character named Burnet. And unless there's a new character being introduced with that name, then we're seeing the character from Pokémon Dream Radar cross over into the main series! The next batch of news for the game will come at 9am EDT on September 14!
The game is now coming to Apple Watch. This version of the app is actually more of an appendage to the phone app; while it tracks your steps (and the calories you burn), shows you nearby Pokémon, and notifies you of Pokémon appearing, you still have to use the phone app to capture Pokémon. source
With today's announcement of Super Mario Run comes the unfortunate additional announcement that the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem games have been pushed back to release after Super Mario Run's December release. The games are still planned to release before March 31, 2017, the end of Nintendo's fiscal year. source
Apple's Keynote Event today dropped a bombshell when Shigeru Miyamoto came on stage to announce Super Mario Run, a platformer coming to iOS. The game will have a fixed price and no in-app purchases. Mario will move forward on his own in this game, while players tap the screen to make him jump. The game will be available to purchase this December on iPhone and iPad devices, and on other platforms later. EDIT: Official website is live.

The Pokémon Sun and Moon Super Music Collection, containing 175 tracks, will be released on iTunes this November for $9.99, with individual tracks on the album available for $0.99 each. Also, the Korean Rating Board has published a rating for Pokémon Sun & Moon Special Trial Version, indicating that we may get a demo not unlike the one we got for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

There actually is a reason! IIRC the gist of it was that food companies needed to sell popcorn (or maybe just corn kernels) during the Great Depression, so someone thought, "Hey, those 'movie' things seem pretty popular; what if we sold popcorn there?" and it stuck.
