I don't think you understand how video game companies work. Square is both a developer and publisher of games. They don't need another company like Nintendo or Sony to back them since they already do everything by themselves. They develop the games(or in some cases, a smaller developer will) and then they publish the games for whatever console they had it planned for. Games obviously have their niches and some will sell better on certain consoles. Have you ever seen an FPS game sell well on the DS? Multi-platform is expensive and in some cases, it can potentially hurt the game in the long run. Take Final Fantasy XIII for example. The director said that they had to cut out a whole game's worth of content out of the game. Why did this happen? Because they decided that the game was also going to be on the 360(which uses DVDs which don't have the same storage capabilities as Bluray) and they couldn't have one game be better than the other. Imagine how much bigger and more complete the game would have been if it were just developed for the PS3.
A DS can play GBA games and honestly Re:Coded is definitely better than Coded since it's way more accessible. Most people can get a DS but not everybody can get a cellphone that is only available in Japan. I don't really get why people hate on remakes so much. If it's same story and the game has been improved on, then what's so bad about it? As for Square spreading the games over various consoles, you got to remember that Square is a company first and foremost. If they can make a better profit on one system over another, then it'd be the more intelligent move to do so, no? Plus games like Re:Coded and Days aren't big enough to make a decent PS2 or PSP game so it'd be better and less risky for them to develop for the DS which is cheaper and the console is still capable of doing a lot of things.
