I don't think I've gone through a lot of phases, to be honest. Nothing really feels like a phase anyway. I will say that I did go through a phase in anime, which I hear a lot of people go through when they start watching it. It was kind of an Elitist Phase. I had just started watching it, probably less than a year of exposure, and I was acting like it's the single best medium of art in the world. And I wouldn't touch English dubs because "Japanese is the best language evar and I'm not wrong!!!". Thankfully, I"ve moved out of that phase. I watch a lot of anime, but I also watch plenty of other television shows and movies. I'm also a big fan of English dubs, and want to get some kind of foot in the industry, although I have been listening to more Japanese dubs over the past year. That simply amounts to me watching a lot of Crunchyroll and not having money to pay for a FUNimation subscription.
Mostly, I've been playing through Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 on my PS3. It's really fun, although a lot of the puzzles are difficult to understand when you first look at them. I've also been playing Re:COM on 1.5 Remix, as well as revisiting 358/2 Days on the DS (which feels like a chore sometimes).
Same damn thing happened to me when I saw it. The little girls were just playing and I was bawling. No idea why!
There's always hope for a great finale song since the stage musical is green lit.
I understand that sentiment. I always have my mind on whenever I experience anything. I actually have fun when I analyze things. I know it sounds weird, but when I watch some movie, if I haven't seen it before, I like guessing what's going to happen due to what it's told me and how each scene fits into The Hero's Journey. Watching something again, I get to figure out what the movie is trying to say (some I can figure out on the first watch). It's like a challenge for me, and it's fun. I'm someone who will like something and I want to know why. Another example is I saw 47 Ronin, and I really enjoyed the movie, knowing it's one of the worst reviewed films of 2013. It was fun for me watching it, figuring out why I liked it so much, as well as why other people didn't. There have been times where it does get in the way though, and makes things less fun. Pacific Rim didn't give me a challenge. Everything about it said that there was little effort, and that lead to me having no real fun (and I get no enjoyment of two giant things taking turns punching each other). Another is the new Hobbit movie. All that time, I couldn't help but think of the book and feel that there was no sign of the book's meaning in there at all. Even looking at it as a film itself, it felt very dull because it was padded, and overall felt uninspired. I don't look down on people for looking at things differently though. I know that I like stuff everyone else thinks is bad. Everyone has different tastes. To bring it around, Frozen; I like that movie for different reasons than most people will say.
Not really. I didn't even know about it until last week, and I'm someone who frequents IMDb for all movie news. Definitely something that came out of nowhere and was a surprise for being better than it had any right of being. And I understand where you come from in music. Some people want just a good beat to listen to. My siblings will listen to something and have no idea what the words mean, even when they're sing it out loud. If you couldn't tell before, I'm pretty analytic. Art is also something I'm critical of because I feel it has to come from somewhere inside the person. Art is one of the best ways of describing emotion, as well as other things, so just about everything I listen to has a lot of passion put into it. It's why I really love rock music and musicals. Lyrics matter to me, and I want more from a singer's voice than hitting the right notes. I understand that I go further than most people do.
Yes. Thank you so much. I'm so used to getting crap for explaining my opinion. Saw Lone Survivor with my family, and were turned off when I began discussing that I really liked how the transition into the third act was the most powerful thing in the movie. They just cared for the action.
It's not that long. tl;dr version: Demi lacks the talent it takes to put emotion into the song.
I honestly can't stand Lavato's cover of the song. Let it Go is a song written with a number of layers in mind. It's from the point of view of someone who has lived in the darkness, seculuded from everyone, and has a chance at freedom. It's empowing, but it's also sad. A person has to hit a certain emotional depth for it to work. Menzel is a Broadway actress; she knows how to do these kinds of things as instinct. It also helps that she plays the character, and have all the background that goes into it. Lavato's has no passion in it whatsoever. She can hit the notes, but there is no feeling in the song. It feels very bland, and there is no emotion put into the song whatsoever. It is just turned into some random pop song that will become forgettable, which is not what this song should become. I always use this example when discussing this stuff: "I Dreamed a Dream". I've heard a number of covers of this song, and even some of the professional stuff. When it is sung beautifully, it is really well done. They hit the notes just right. But my absolute favorite version of the song is Anne Hathaway's version. She did not go for pretty in the movie. She went for the emotion of the song, and it hits home a lot deeper than any other version of the song I've heard.
I do that for a number of movies. The ones I recall is Scream 4, The Avengers, Cabin in the Woods, and The Conjuring. Oh, and of course, Frozen. Saw it a second time about two weeks ago. I got the pre-order of the film for Christmas, so that meant it came with a complementary ticket to see it again. I've actually been tempted to go see it a third time, even though I have the soundtrack and I just have to wait a month to watch it through Vudu. Best movie of 2014 hands down.
So, I was watching The Golden Globes. After it was finished, I tried to change the channel, but the remote wouldn't respond. It did volume stuff, but nothing else. I tried turning the power on and off, but it only led to a black screen. I then unplugged the system and plugged it back in, but then the screen went blue, like it wasn't recovering any signal at all. Any advise. We're using an Xfinity cable box, which is a branch off of Comcast, if that helps any.
"Is Aqua Kair's mother?" "Xehanort's a time lord." "Why should I buy Kingdom Hearts 1.5? It's just the same game!"
Love Lab was actually my top choice for the year. Oreimo I found was really funny. I really liked the second season the best (for the OVAs, take them as you will). Nagi No Asukara. Good story driven show and a lot of beautiful backgrounds, character designs, and other great technical details.
"I want to see Marvel and Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts 3." "I was surprised that the young guy in KH3 was a young Ansem."
Is talking about drugs not against the rules?
Could be worse, but I'm glad it's not. Get better soon, kid -tummer
I've heard it described as a dark subversion.
Honestly, this is my favorite anime of all time. While it has that dark message and can be negative, the message it ends up leaving us quite positive. There is a reason why it is so loved, and that goes down to basic storytelling. And I can't wait to see your reaction if you see The Rebellion Stiory.
