Let's hope this will lead to greater co-operation between the major "space faring" nations. This ******ed space race business has stopped us from progressing anywhere near as far as we could have done if we worked together. I WANT TO BE ON MARS DAMNIT!

But anyway, this is why I'm learning Russian. Being a cosmonaut seems so much cooler than being an astronaut.

    Nostalgia

I miss the times when the Discussion forum was really active. You know, when there was like a million discussions and debates on the go at any one time. I miss that :( Especially considering that where I got virtually all my posts.

We are not talking about active control over the government, that would mean that the USA would be a theocracy. We are talking about passive control; the kind of control that peaked when it was put on and the pledge thing was added and the fact that they are both still in use shows that that passive control is still there. It works in that politicians would never do something that would upset the church. That is as powerful as actually ruling the country.

Argh D: It is not that I care overly much or that I am angry that it's there. It does annoy me that it is there and that the under god part is in the pledge, but it's not something I get angry about on a regular basis. The reason I think it should be changed is on the principle that things should be based on fact, and the fact is that the USA is not a Christian country and should therefore not pretend to be. No matter how loud Christians shout or even if they are in the majority. Being a secular country it cannot be biased for or against any recognised religions and this is blatant bias for Christianity.

I do hope you realise where I'm coming from here =/

They could always stop putting the franchise on to stupid platforms. Moving it back to the powerful consoles and even (maybe) on to the PC. I was sickened when they started to bring out all of the handheld games, why break something that worked well?! D: I don't think an online game would be very good or popular though. I also can't really remember enough detail about the actual plot etc to pass any judgement on it.

The only difference that I can see between your analogy and the dollar thing is that the dollar thing was only brought in what 50 years ago whereas I'm sure Belgium has had some form of monarchy for hundreds of years. I suppose if it was left then in a hundred years time you'd be right, it would have lost the discriminatory connotation that it has now. But this isn't a hundred years in the future when things like religion may not mean so much. This is now. This is the time when there are people who will use the fact that god is in the pledge and on the currency to say "look at us, we live in a Christian country with Christian values and so it should be run by Christians in the Christian way". I see removing the god part as not only putting things the right way in terms of the facts (America is and always has been a secular country) as well as removing a piece of ammunition (albeit a small one) from the grasp of the fundamentalists who are quite powerful as it is.

And I have to say, I love the royal family of the UK (well the Queen lol) and I would never give them up for the world. I just see them as an integral part of the culture of the country I live in. Not only that, but there is even religious writing on our coins, but it's in Latin so I didn't notice till someone pointed it out to me. Again, it has been there long enough to have lost any connotations that it may have had and it certainly has never been used to try and turn the UK into a Christian nation.

The fault does not lie in the system, it lies in the people. If a candidate said that they were atheist they would not get voted in, it's really that simple. So any that are or were either won't mention it or will claim to be good honest Christians. It personally sickens me the way American politicians feel the need to pull out the Christian card when they are campaigning. Obama even did it, which annoys me.

As far as I can see, an atheist would almost be better suited as there wouldn't be the supernatural agenda aspect to their leadership. They would (hopefully) be basing their actions on clear thought, logic, reason and common sense as opposed to what their particular denomination tells them to think or whatever they perceive god to want.

The thing I find most interesting is is that those worst suited to lead a country are often the ones that want it to most. This being because those that want it the most tend to want the power and power corrupts. The most absolute power being the leader of a nation and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

All I can say is, your family is always there for you. You can see and feel yourself that your family is always there for you. If god existed (and I really really hope it does not) then it cannot be seen to help and you can only guess if it is actually helping.

I would always put my family before any sort of higher being. As for the story of Abraham sacrificing his only son for god I find that disgusting that any higher power would even attempt a deception like that. I could never worship an evil being like that.

It was just a friend of mine in Halls told me that he would always put god first, even before his family and I just couldn't understand how anyone could think like that =/ He's Catholic and wants to be a priest.

I am pretty sure I must have been drunk when I posted that as it makes no sense what so ever lol I think what I meant was, should someone of faith put god before their own family? I see that as being fundamentally and unequivocally wrong.
