Its extremely hard at first but when you do it so many times it gets really easy to the point where you can just mess around with him. i do the same with terra. He is really easy for me now. but was extremely hard the first time!!!

Those are "Composite Cables" but anyway have you tried it on all settings like NTSC, Force NTSC, Pal etc.
It should say USA on the bottom of the disc and are you using component cables at all? The red blue and green cords.
