It completely depends on the situation. If it's a good neccesary pause it's fun/tense. If it's a boring one full with shiz niz, I don't really see the point of it and it can be a tiny bit annoying.
Yep I can hear it and I am not over 20. I am kind of used to it, many people in my class have it on their cells -_-.
