You can negatively punish if you want, but you need to be consistent for it to count. If you slip up and respond to any one of them once you have trashed the entire training. There's also that you personally aren't the only one responding/not responding so if someone else responds even once, training goes boom again. So being passive like that would work better in a one on one situation but you need to control group dynamics more. So it's actually going to be horribly ineffective to just ignore them unless they already have some form of respect for you and the people who need changing respect no one worthwhile.

I feel like you're using cynical incorrectly here, because cynical just means that they don't trust people's intentions are pure and doubtful as to how worthwhile activities might be. Call me crazy, but, that's a good thing for someone online. You don't want to trust in people you don't know and you don't want to be so wide eyed and naive as to believe that gushing and being in general a twit is worthwhile. So maybe you mean something else, but I never associate cynicism with whining or bad behavior in general.

The problem is people's reactions to the punishment. If you become entrenched rather than rethinking your own position you're just disagreeing with criticism because you're too mentally weak and incompetent to take people's words, sift through them and understand what they're saying and why they're saying it. Yes, criticism should be detailed and constructive. No, it doesn't have to be to have a good point. So I put the blame on whoever is getting told their taste is shit since it's their job to at least understand that they are not infallible and other people's opinions can be worth more than theirs. It's an ego problem. If you have too much ego you fight. If you don't have too much ego you think it out rationally.

Changing won't happen without cause. If you just wait for someone to change, they'll never change. You have to inspire change for it to happen because people think they're right. People think that whatever they do is in their best interests/is is best, that's why they do it. So they need reinforcement/punishment to actually get anywhere.

I'd also like to point out that positive reinforcement doesn't work if they have no good behaviors at all to begin with, which is actually quite relevant here.

Summarily, people need to respond to criticism better and be more concerned with self improvement.

In all fairness I thought I'd still be asleep for these given when I went to bed.

We won't begrudge you that. I don't really have anything to say, I just figured it'd be good for you to know we're listening and paying attention when it needs to be paid.

You must not have been in the same spamzone as I was this past year. I've seen a fair number of threads that have had someone pop in make an unnecessary pony/who reference and when it's bad it takes and ruins the thread and when it's good they get shouted down/ignored.

That's one way to look at it. But I think that there should be checks on bad behavior from the community. When someone does something right they need a reward and when they do something wrong they need to be punished. Society degenerates when people can do whatever they want so while it's okay to just roll on by it doesn't help the site improve or grow.

Except I don't actually remember a ton of people trying to make everything into a discussion about Naruto or Death Note or anything else. Yes, they wore the stupid avatars and sigs. Yes, they posted in short moronic roleplays at times. Yes, they were scum just the same. No, I didn't actually think they had an impact on the forum at large. The obnoxiousness was not of the same nature at all. I also only spent summers and winters here post 2008 and pre 2012 but my point remains.

I don't "like" posts but if rep were still around, you'd get some.

Basically someone who was not LK had to make it to Yume to have a chance at beating him and everyone else just missed it at critical points. LK lost so stupendously there that it shocked me how even he was with Ken and how that one dropped combo made all that difference.

In other news Daigo, Infiltration, Justin Wong and the Chinese players all got put in losers yesterday. What even.

It's sad that Domi only goth 5th at Evo and was the only top 8 Akihiko.

Not that anyone but brkrdave seemed to even challenge Yume.
