Well personally my usage of the guillemets as an option stems from how lovely they look! Along with the fact that actual quotation-based dialogue is also present within the story, and differentiation between speech and instant message text is absolutely necessary to prevent confusion and outline differences in the personas presented by the characters.
But there were only goddamn Weedles everywhere.
