Vivi looks at you with astonishment. He is speechless at your sudden strange intonation, and for a moment he looks for words. After a period of silence among the party over this defiance, he raises his eyes and growls at you.

「Look, fresh meat. I'm the goddamn leader here. I'm the one who calls the shots. You're nothing but a tag-along, and if you're going to show attitude right here-

Vivi is cut off by Misty, who barks at him. They argue, and Saxima is forced to break up the conflict. She convinces Vivi to let you keep the flashlight. The tension between Vivi and Misty is threatening to become worse at this point. But you do not wish to get involved right now.

    Opinion bombardment time!

    1. We can perhaps flesh our her character more and give her a permanent name.

    2. Different paths sound grand as long as they do not tangle up the story too much? I am simply hoping with this that the actual paths will still be smoothly experienced regardless of their order. Would there be different endings?

    3. Currency sounds fun, especially for those uses!

    4. Would these entail small minigames or sub-stories or some such?

    5. Hrm. This is my bias but I feel that multiple genres could fit together, but clearly not so very clashy like you said (e.g. nope nope to Busta Rhymes + Mozart or the like). If music creates atmosphere of the sort, then I feel that there can be some variation but with a base on a certain type of music that would relate to all of the variations? I actually feel music which uses orchestral instruments would perhaps be the most versatile in such a case. Using simple tools one can blend together the items at their disposal to create many unique and versatile variations.

The boy lifted his eyes to the bright scenery around him.
This haunting, yet beautiful world. It truly did feel quite unreal at times. And yet, he had to accept that it was, for now, his reality. He shivered for a moment as a cold wind swept through this old, empty alleyway of the Town of Beginnings. The wind seemed real. His back, touching the solid stone wall, seemed just as real as if he would have rested himself against his own home. It was all real, and yet, at times, it felt like it was simply a dream that had become too real.
But could he truly consider it a dream, and not a nightmare? He lifted a palm to his taupe hair as he brought up the weapon equip screen. His rapier. How it seemed so natural for him to grab such a stinging weapon, and yet, be so careful in using it. Would he consider it a dream if he was forced to defeat the beasts of this game to continue to live?
But the boy was not one to spend too much time pondering over things like this. No. He would have to stop that. He would have to stop that if he were to survive and change.
The boy brought his two index fingers to the corners of his mouth, and moved them upward, transforming his set face into a sprightly smile. With a flighty step, he sprang off the wall and ran out of the alleyway.
The alleyway lead out to a busy and bustling street. Very perfect. Shops, homes, and services lined the paved road, beaten by the thousands of footfalls from players and NPCs, drifting like the waves. He jumped on a barrel and looked out towards the end of the street. There was an inn far from there, among the throng of people. Wonderful! He was feeling quite hungry, anyway.
Jumping off the barrel, much to the chagrin of an NPC, he began dancing his way around the people, with excuses and pardons thrown about the air like confetti. He would occasionally jump over NPCs; slide under the legs of players - he had to move quickly to get to the inn. But his curiosity was insatiable. He would occasionally duck to the side and look into the other alleyways. And it was through this that he saw something that he thought rather peculiar.
A solemn girl, very young-looking and with blonde hair, stood by herself near a wall only a few metres away from the inn's entrance. To him, she seemed calm and focused. But he was wondering what such a girl was doing out here like this!
He removed himself from the tide of people with a twirl of a motion, and stumbled over towards the girl in the alley, almost drunkenly, before he collapsed right by her feet. Oh how emerging from groups of people can cause one's motions to go all astray!
He glanced up at the girl and her blue eyes. With his near-perfectly crafted smile, he called out:
    "Hi."

What do you think makes a good character?
This is a slippery answer. I personally believe that it depends upon the fictional work in itself. For example, a dynamic and round character with more flaws and realism would work in a story that has a more mature setting, while a more static character would be fine in fictional work that does not really require the character to be dynamic. Sometimes people put fictional work on a continuum of importance from something being less mature and heavy to more mature and heavy but I feel that fictional work with less seriousness and more static characters (e.g. slice of life 4koma) can continue to offer insight on various things you could get from reading other books really, one simply has to look into it. In this way characters can be generally equal to themselves in regards to their setting. Certainly it would be wonderful if a static character had more development but that does not imply that the character's existing flatness is inferior to a potential development if it fits the context of the story. But I am straying away from the point of the discussion a bit.

What are some characters that you've written before? Describe them. What do they look like, what are their motivations, what's their personality like, what are their fears, etc.?
Typically, I attempt to keep my characters realistic because most of my stories tend towards emotional realism in regards to events (as best as "emotional realism" can get in magical realist ridiculousness or some other such things).

An example would be the protagonist of a story-in-progress. She leads an interesting life in regards to her many personas and experiences within multiple levels of reality. On a variation of the internet, she masquerades as the well-liked and fairly calm B-Boson, but this underlies the many different ways she acts in many different situations. One could say her default mood offline is inquisitive yet shy, but also sarcastic, but also quick to give up. When she is with her aunt, she becomes more irritable. When she is with her younger cousin, she gains an almost maternal serenity. When she is with her teacher, she is extensively cautious. And the discrepancies between talking to her teacher online and offline show the various parts of what makes up Beatrice. She is not a character who really has a truly "default mood" because, like many people, she reacts differently to different situations. And even in this she slowly changes to become more confident in herself, as confidence is perhaps the underlying tie between all of these faces. I feel she fits in the particular story because one of its major themes is indeed the discrepancies between online and offline actions and communication, along with the many faces that make up a person's identity.

    >> Ask the others what they think about it all.||

Vivi continues to walk forward. At least you now have a good feeling why the night of the sleepover was chosen in the Manor today.

And yet, you feel a bit apprehensive. It is strange. You begin to wonder if the others know anything about this odd little legend. You stop your following of Vivi, who simply continues onward by himself, slowly towards the house.

Turning around, you see Krowley and Neku slowly approaching your spot. It appears that Neku has not at once stopped informing poor Krowley of his life story. If anyone has information to tell, it would most likely be Neku and his dart-like vocalisations, or Krowley and his infinite wisdom.

You stop them for a moment. Neku quickly rushes up to you. You swear you would never be able to picture the solemn-faced Krowley without his black overcoat, or Neku and his eternally present headphones.

You quickly rush up behind Krowley to try and avoid Neku's onslaught. To your surprise, he walks up to the chattering Neku and whispers in his ears. Neku then nods his head and runs off in the direction of Vivi.
Giving a silent thanks, you turn to face Krowley. In all honesty, you were always intimidated by him a bit.

You walk away from him to try and reach the last two members of your little expedition, Misty and Saxima. From your point, they appear to be engaged in a conversation. As you approach them, you sense some tension between them. Misty's Doctor Who scarf is blown about her by the feisty winds, and her subtly snarky, quickly-thrown comments seem to contrast with Saxima's sweetly liquid, contemplative voice. You can tell that there is tension from the way Saxima continually fiddles with her sangria-coloured bow.

Finally seeing you, they both looked visibly relieved.

It is late by the time the party reaches the entrance of Chateau Manor. Vivi motions for the party to move close to the large and ornate double-knocker door as it requires the strength of six people to open.

The party places their hands together on the door, to open it. A shiver reaches your hands. It must have simply been the cold metal of the door, right?

    >> Catch up to Vivi ||

You run over to the appointed leader of this little brigade, Vivi, well known for his blunt and to-the-point outlook on many tasks, including this adventure. You can easily scout him out among the others through his stylish leather jacket, but before you can stroll up beside him, he turns around to face you, stopping you in your dusty tracks. The crinkling of the colourfully dead leaves strewn about the ground echo in the distance from the other party members slowly catching up to you two. You are unsure if it is Vivi's presence or the tickling wind that coldly bites at the bare skin of your face and hands.

    Late replies bluh, I apologize.

@Janson: Allergies will be taken into account for food preparation, that is a good idea hm.

@cse: Yes sadly. No technology exists to involve taste yet. So it is all about creativity with use of ingredients and the like for now. Hence why it is a very casual and non serious event! However, if anyone is ever interested in tasting these dishes, another prime factor of this competition is the accessibility of the recipes and their recreation!

If everything goes according to plan I should be able to get everything up this weekend or next week, hopefully.
