    >> Go back for Saxima and then escape through the hole. ||

    You run over to Saxima, collapsed and unconscious on the ground. The statues grow closer, emitting unearthly cackles that seem to distort your very own perception of your surroundings.

    The ground is wet with blood. With all of
    the mist settling, you begin to notice that the swaying chandelier had left in its wake huge splatters of blood around the gaping hole. Mist pours and rushes out of the hole, and you begin to feel a horrible, choking sensation - as if it is not your throat, but your very lungs that are shrinking. The whispers of the wind become interchangeable with the statues' animal growls and laughs.

    But you march on. You pick up the mat
    chbox that Neku dropped in the commotion and inch closer to Saxima. The statues are but a few meters away from the unconscious girl. Through the thick mist, through Vivi's yells of forcing you to return to keep safe, you rush on - you will not leave anyone behind.

    You reach Saxima, and lift her up. She seems unusually light. But as you turn around, you come face to face with one of the menacing statues.

    On closer inspection, its face appears to be less of the material of the statue - and a kind of thick, condensed mist imitating it, as if the mist itself is conscious. The more mist there is, the more it seems to dampen the fire of your soul.

    But the mist continues to choke you. For all you know, Saxima could have been knocked out by the mist as well. The statue in front of you roars, and you are trapped. Trapped between this horrible creature and a sealed passageway. Through the mist and commotion, you seem to hear someone sobbing - it may be someone from your party, but you cannot tell. You are not even sure if it is sobbing - it is simply a noise, and you cannot comprehend it with all of the mist and the brain-splitting laughter of the statues.

    You slowly edge backward as the statue draws closer to you, emitting ghostly wails and devilish guffaws that slowly and surely rot your soul like the mist. You hear a few snaps and crackles below you- like the leaves outside, but sharper, and as you look down for a moment, you find a few bloodied chandelier shards.

    But the statue grows close enough and lets out a horrific laugh that leaves you temporarily deaf. It slowly levitates a few feet in the air - most likely getting ready to strike.

    You are cornered.

    >> Neku. ||

    Neku immediately thrusts himself forward.

    || Neku ||

    「GUYS. I like, TOTALLY got this. Okay, you know I was like the TOP NINJA back in MIDDLE SCHOOL, you KNOW? Like, I could CLIMB TREES FASTER LIKE THE SPEED OF SOUND, OKAY. One time I was gonna even climb a tree too to get my PET CAT down from it. But bro, pet cat was like, SO CHILL, dawg. So chill he was a dog. HOW DO DOGS CLIMB TREES EVEN. Okay but I am so excited THANK you FOR even choosing me to GET THE MATCHBOX to the top-

    Misty grabs the box of matches from your hand and forcibly shoves them into Neku's. She tells him to start climbing upward. Neku agrees and begins his climb.

    || Neku ||

    「Uh, guys, I think we, like HAVE GOT a COOL PROBLEM! Okay so like, I can't climb UP to the STATUE'S neck BECAUSE the thing is too high up. SO HIGH THAT it like, has SO much DELTA-9-TETRAHYDROCANNABINOL in its system that it has affected its NEURAL REWARD PATHWAYS to the point where the DOPAMINE is SO UP IN THE DOPE Y'ALL. Like seriously I even NEED a boost okay!

    Which party member will step up to give Neku a boost?

    The chandelier beings swaying a bit more violently, as if it were alive. Startlingly, you swear you hear a whispered word coming from one of the closest holes, as if something is right behind you,
    watching ...

    You turn around towards the black hole. You swear you caught a glimpse of something ... but- the mist seems to make you slowly and systematically forget the image you saw, whatever it was, and you turn your attention back to Neku.

    You turn to Krowley. He stares at you with judgemental eyes. It sends a shiver down your spine.
    He says nothing, but he looks at the statues and then turns his eyes back to the floor beneath the chandelier.

    Vivi bursts in.

    「Ugh, we're getting nowhere here, and it's almost midnight as well. Sheesh, do you want to stay here without sleeping?

    You are still very wary of the holes. At least you know that they seem to be a source of the strange, thick mist that floats around the room like a condensed cloud of agony.

    So you turn to Vivi. He looks at you with a sly smile, finally content that the party is listening to him.

    || Vivi ||

    「Heh. Took you guys long enough. To me, that bloodied message looks like we have to light that chandelier. Does anyone have any ideas for how we get up there, though?

    The party members look at each other. Misty grumbles to herself.

    You turn to Misty and Saxima. Misty seems to be ready to say something, probably in response to Vivi's theory, but Neku jumps out at you.

    || Neku ||

    HEY YOU THERE! So I HAVE GOT this AMAZING idea for what even is GOING ON in the PLACE WE have here YOU KNOW! Okay so bear with me like a bear 'cause I'm GONNA GET FAST-FORWARD up in THIS MAN, okay so let me gather my thoughts (you know I was voted most likely to need to get my thoughts collected WHAT IS EVEN UP WITH THAT EVEN) so okay I think that you know the CHANDELIER is the COOLEST THING I HAVE SEEN like the way it SWAYS is just SO COOL! It is like SO COOL that if ABSOLUTE ZERO WERE A PERSON it would be so FLAMING HOT like it was voiced by JAMES WOODS and TIM CURRY or some THING like that even SO anyway I got this idea FOR the COOL CHANDELIER THOUGH but you know chandeliers are so cool I EVEN had one in my old house it was like

    Misty immediately clamps a hand on Neku's mouth. She seems at a loss of words. It looks like she will not be saying anything after this.

    Vivi scowls at the party.

    || Vivi ||

    Come on, guys. Damn. You're all looking at me like I killed someone in an alternate timeline or something. You elected me as leader for a reason, right?

    Krowley continues to stare at the floor below the chandelier.

    >> Proceed to the Foyer||

    You proceed to the foyer of the central hall. Much of it is still drenched in shadow.
    In the light of the flashlight, you notice the reflections of the enormous chandelier that hangs above you. It appears to be swaying gently, from left to right. Two statues below it seem to guard the entire room - identical, cast-iron Thinkers that are missing their heads, but they seem to just reach the chandelier. What unsettles you and the party, however, is the amount of blood that is on the cracked marble floor, also filled with dark holes. You hear a few drips. Looking up, it seems that the chandelier, as well, is dripping blood. Some blood falls down on Neku and he lets out a yelp. Even Vivi looks unsettled by this. Saxima asks what in the world could have caused this.

    The statues also bear a few drops of blood. On closer inspection, the left statue contains a few words written in the blood.

    ILLumiNaTE heaVEn
    the clouD of blood hangs above YOU to diE

    You shiver. Slowly glancing upward, all you can see is the swaying, dripping chandelier. There also appears to be no ceiling - just a dark space.

    The foyer seems to contain no other doors - only a few arched windows and more strange paintings. You hear a thundercrack outside. The mist in this room seems particularly thick, and you hear Vivi coughing near you. The movement of the chandelier seems to sway with the motion of that strange, whispering wind.

    >> Enter the long hall. ||

    You and the party move towards the long hall.
    The further inward you move, the thicker the air seems to become. Three-quarters through the dark passageway, a wafting mist begins to appear. Eventually, you and the party approach a large and elegant cast-iron door, with figures of the Thinker, still headless, embedded into it. However, these figures seem a bit more tense.
    central hall

    ~ memento of the infinite nocturne

    The party enters the long, central hall.

    Compared to the entrance room, this particular hallway seems enormous and ornate. Stretching on in a long hallway, it reaches a large, central foyer with the shadowy shapes of an overhanging chandelier and two enormous statues that you cannot discern from this location. The central foyer is extremely dark, and you cannot see anything else in it. The mist wafts around you, thick and choking, and you can swear you hear some sort of whispering - but it may simply be the wind.

    The hallway's wall is adorned with a peeling cream paint, held up by dark cast-iron pillars set into it. You notice, in the darkness, that the cast-iron pillars appear to have more small, miniature statues, but you can barely notice any further details. The walls appear to be literally covered in all sorts of paintings. Some of them seem to have abstract or geometric objects, but most of them - primarily portraits, still lifes, and realistic landscapes, seem to be scratched out, or you simply cannot see them.

    It is too dark to notice any more of the ornate structures in the hallway, and to see much of anything else in the foyer.

    You immediately notice that the hallway reaching the foyer has a number of holes delving into further darkness. These holes are big enough for you to fall in, and what is more, whatever made them was able to break through the solid chessboard-pattern marble of the floor.

    The hallway your party is in is already a bit dark - it is hard to see much, but the light of the nearby windows adds an eerie grey glow to everything in the hallway. The spherical lights high up on the walls are all broken.

    This part of the hallway bears a single pair of large, cast-iron doors near the other end, right before the hallway opens up into the darkened foyer. You need to light this hallway.

    >> Reach for Vivi.||

    Vivi.

    The leader of your team. Steadfast and strong; determined with a slight streak of stubbornness. He was a good leader because he was decisive about his actions. Though he always seemed ornery, you could tell he had a heart that looked out for the most people. You looked up to him, even if it seemed he looked down on you.

    And he was the closest one.

    With all of your strength, you slowly reach your arm out over to him. It takes some effort, but you feel you can do it. You call out his name. He seems frozen, unable to hear you and in a trance - is that, fear and indecision you see on his face?

    Your fingers begin to slip. You desperately call out his name again, your legs freely dangling in the inky space below.

    He rushes close to you and extends his hand with a panicked look on his face. Your hands cannot reach each other - the space is too much. Vivi quickly takes off his leather jacket and lowers it to let you grab it. You grip the springy fabric with a tight hold. You will be saved!

    ...
    But Vivi sees the flashlight strapped to you, and something changes.

    His eyes grow wide. His hands begin to shake, and he peers up at nothing in particular as the mist grows thicker around the party. At this time, the rest begin to scramble around to try and help Vivi lift you to safety. Vivi lowers his head, and looks at his shaking hands holding the taut jacket.

    || Vivi || [whispered]

    Useless.

    Neku rushes over to help Vivi pull you to safety. Vivi viciously raises his head at the oncoming Neku and elbows him in the stomach, sending him sliding sideways across the wooden floor. The mist grows thicker. Misty lets out a yelp.

    || Misty || [yelling]

    You idiot! You asshole! What the hell are you doing?!

    || Saxima ||

    Vivi! Be reasonable! Stop, or I'll force you myself!

    Saxima rushes over to Vivi and tries to wrench Vivi's arm up. He kicks her backward, and she knocks her head on one of the Thinker statues. With his free hand, he pulls a chunk of sharpened, jagged wood from the hole's rim and begins to cut through the jacket. Vivi's hands shake violently, and he seems to be whispering to himself. You panic and try to climb upwards on the leather. Vivi falls forward and lets out a gasp of air. He stabs your hand with the piece of wood, the jacket only cut partway in half. A searing pain shoots through your right hand and you are forced to let go.

    || Vivi ||

    You stupid, useless fresh meat! This is all your fault anyway! We don't need you. It'll be good if you just die and stay dead. You're dead weight. Give me the flashlight, and I'll save you.

    You cannot reach the flashlight. You try. Your hand is bleeding. It hurts to even move it. But you cannot reach your flashlight.

    || Vivi || [yelling]

    Give me the flashlight, or I'll let you fall to your death. Come on! Idiot, what's taking so long? Give me the damn flashlight, or do you want all of us to die you dirty-

    Misty lets out a yell. Krowley tries to restrain her, but with a swift movement of her fist, she knocks Krowley out.
    She tackles Vivi from behind, another piece of sharp wood in her hand. She breathes heavily. The force startles Vivi, and he rolls close to your hand.

    || Vivi || [yelling]

    Damnit! Damnit, look what you've done now! Your voice keeps hovering in my ear like a fly! A fly! You're like the wind! You're a pest! A goddamn pest! Get out of here! Get out! GET OUT!

    He jams the wooden stake into the hand that keeps you on the edge of the hole. You let out a gasp of pain.
    Blood drips down your fingers, and reaches your cheek. At first, you feel nothing in your hand, but slowly - slowly, like the wind and mist around you, the pain becomes worse, and worse, and worse and worse and worse and dear god you cannot take it anymore you really need to let go but you can't because you'll fall but the pain is horrendous and you cannot take this anymore so you let yourself, fall.

    And you fall, and bring the leather jacket with you.

    The place where your hand was once hanging from the hole's rim is now stained in blood. Misty lies on Vivi, her eyes wide in horror.

    || Misty || [yelling]

    You asshole! YOU KILLED HIM! YOU LET HIM FALL!

    || Vivi || [crazed, yelling]

    Get the hell off me, bitch! WE'RE BETTER OFF WITHOUT HIM!

    || Misty || [crazed, yelling]

    I'LL KILL YOU, YOU USELESS SHIT! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL STAB YOU!
    AND STAB YOU!

    She stabs Vivi in the back.
    AND STAB YOU!

    She stabs again.
    AND STAB YOU!
    AND STAB YOU!
    AND STAB YOU!

    She keeps stabbing.
    AND STAB YOU!

    AND STAB YOU!
    AND STAB YOU!

    AND STAB YOU!

    Misty's hate drives her, as she repeatedly stabs Vivi with the bloodied, jagged chunk of wood.
    Vivi lifts up a shaking, bloodstained hand towards Misty's scarf.

    Misty keeps stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. And stabbing. Vivi grows more and more dim. Drops of his blood contrast on Misty's face with her crazed, widened eyes. She lets out a crazed, sadistic giggle.
    AND STAB YOU!

    AND STAB YOU!

    aahahhahAHHAHAHhAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHA! I'LL STAB YOU AND STAB YOU! AND THEN YOU'LL SHUT YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH FOREVER!

    But Vivi grabs on to one end of her bloodstained scarf.

    With his last ounce of strength, he moves his mangled corpse closer along the edge of the hole, and drags Misty and her scarf along with him. Misty drops her jagged wooden stake and moves her hands close to her neck, as Vivi slowly strangles Misty with the scarf.

    || Vivi ||
    mmAybE ...
