Harley's hand went to the gun attached to his pants, and he pulled it out, "Any sign of September?" September. Haha. Finally, he'd gotten a real ID. And some other things. Forged documents, etc . . . He'd claimed guardianship of the others that were under seventeen. His name was Hiram Jefferson, he was twenty-three-years-old, and he was on a road trip with some friends and family. The clerk greeted him and he began to converse with the middle-aged man. "It's just a road trip." he lied, "We'll be checking out some time today, I think." He continued to talk to the clerk for a while, and then he found that he was watching Duncan and Bernie trying to console a security officer that had a sick-looking Madeline draped over his shoulder. He clicked his tongue and walked over to the group. "Hey," he called out, and the officer looked at him, "I'd appreciate it if you sat my cousin down." he said, "She's sick, can't you see? Treating her like that . . . I could sue your ass if I wanted to." He didn't if he actually could, but it sounded good and he really wasn't in the mood. "Put her down, please." For several long moments he and the officer had a stare-down. Stubbornly, the office complied and set Madeline down. She looked a little wobbly, so he put his arm around her shoulder for support. The guard left and Harley turned to Madeline, "You look like shit." he told her bluntly, mostly annoyed, "What'd you do, stuff your face? None of us have eaten decently in days. Nix rose at about dawn and dressed, taking his morning flight ( that was shorter than normal ) just a little while before classes started. Today was Wednesday; Health and Gym day . . . He didn't mind these days, but after being so tired, he wasn't sure how well he was going to hold up. After some walking and lots of yawning, Nix found himself in the boys' locker room. Some of the others looked at him as he changed into his athletic wear, but he didn't pay much attention to them. After dressing, Nix quietly slipped into the large, open-roof gym. He decided a few laps around the track would do him good. After stretching, he took up low flying and running, alternating between laps.

While the silence of the room poured over him, his thoughts began to travel left and right to other things. Harley wanted to gag every time he thought of what he saw in that building. He still hadn't forgotten, but he had a new goal to focus on now - surviving long enough to summon Crestatia. How did summoning work again? A vessel was needed, and so was an offering, right? He couldn't remember right now. He'd have to make a note to ask Madeline about that too, but that would pretty much entail having to . . . talk about what he was feeling and what he saw. Well, maybe not what he was feeling. Hell, why not. What he was feeling, too. The door opened and Harley's first instinct was to grab the gun from under his pillow and shoot, but when he saw that it was the other group, he gave a heavy sigh of relief. "Sorry for being so late." Septimus said, looking like he had a hand full. At least he apologized. Harley sighed, "Next time you guys are gonna be late, at least tell one of us . . ." he said exasperatedly. He took a bit to get out of bed and then organize what they bought. Hmm. They needed transportation of some sort. A car. With all the money they had, surely they could buy one. He'd have to bring the idea up tomorrow. When the other girl told her to go on without her, Kallisti frowned. "If you are sure . . ." she replied, and then began to walk along the swampy area until it returned to its clear self that would lead her up back to the house. Before, she had been in something of a daze, thinking about distant things left and right. There had been a vague feeling of the knife, but when the canoe flipped, she pushed it out of her mind. She was still doing that now. At least she had known it was coming . . . sort of. Kallisti had honestly - perhaps naively - thought that she would spend a little bit more time with Devyn before the other girl offed her - or tried to anyway. There was no real guarantee Devyn would actually complete killing her, though the chances were high. The boat flipping was an accident, but it had . . . saved her life. She would make sure not to mention it. She wondered of the other girl was afraid, somehow, of getting attached; not to Kallisti specifically, but in general. She had gotten attached to Chester, hadn't she? Kallisti walked across a more shallow part of the cold river, up the hill to the house. She was sopping dirty . . . But she laughed. It had been amusing, the canoe flipping. Unexpected, out of mood . . . WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Kallisti jumped. THE CHICK IS GONNA KILL YOU AND YOU'RE GOING BACK TO HER HOUSE? Kal . . . It's been a while. NO KIDDING. I THINK YOU'VE BEEN BLOCKING ME OUT. I have not and you've no way to prove that. WHY ARE YOU GOING BACK TO HER HOUSE? Devyn is a nice girl. NICE? NICE?! SHE'S TRYING TO KILL YOU! Not out of spite, Kal . . . She kind of has to. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING. SHE WANTS TO KILL YOU BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO WIN. It is more like . . . she has to kill me because she wants to win. It's requirement for the winner. NO. DON'T YOU REMEMBER? IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE PERSON ON DAY 101 STILL ALIVE, THE OTHERS WILL DIE UNTIL ONE IS LEFT STANDING. SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO KILL YOU. SHE ONLY HAS TO TAKE INITIATIVE TO LOOK GOOD. . . . I do not want to talk about this anymore, Kal. YOU JUST DON'T WANT TO SEE THE REALITY. I am seeing the reality. I have lived through more than I care to admit Kal. I am tired. SAME. YOU SHOULD GET CLEANED UP. Outside, Kallisti found a water hose and sprayed herself off, only making her colder and wishing that she had a warm towel. She had somehow managed to leave Devyn's house relatively un-drenched and then took a long shower, throwing her clothing in a plastic bag and setting it on the washer. After she was done, she took to towels and set them on the mat outside the door for whenever Devyn returned so that she could clean up a little, if she wanted. Kallisti dried off her hair, tied it back into a braid and shrugged on a fluffy white robe. She flopped back onto the bed she shared with Devyn. SHE'S PROBABLY GOING TO TRY AND KILL YOU AGAIN IN YOUR SLEEP OR TOMORROW. I know . . . YOU'RE SAD ABOUT DYING OR ABOUT HER KILLING YOU? Mostly about her . . . She seems very nice. She had said something about being friends. I would not mind that. SUUUURE. Kal. I'M BEING SERIOUS, KALLI. Plans, precautions, splits, things were being done at a pace he didn't feel like keeping up with, but he was glad that they were moving around and about. Madeline looked a bit better with the sleep she had gotten, but there wasn't much else to comment on her condition. Things weren't looking the best for any of them, but if he had to peg one to snap, it would be her. Harley almost felt bad that he might have to kill her. The world snapped back to him when he was leaned on, and Marina had already started laying out their day in front of them. They would split into two groups; one to the clinic and the other to supplies. They would definitely be less conspicuous if they were in smaller groups. Americans tended to stand out in Candiah, but since Percival was a border city, it didn't matter much. When Marina slipped on her coat, Harley stood, "Make sure you have all the numbers you need in your phones, and if you guys come across any ammo in the store, go about any methods you can of getting it. Steal, if you've gotta." he told them, grabbing his white, black-lined cardigan. He turned to Duncan when the kid started speaking and nodded, "Yeah, Septimus. Mind coming along?" But it seemed that Temperance wasn't having it, so Duncan was coming with the Clinic Group. "Harley, by the way," he mentioned, walking along to the door. "Alright, one last check." He looked at his watch, "We know that we're being followed by . . . someone - probably Devyn's lackeys - If anything happens, meet at the café that was right behind our bus stop - but don't group out when you get in there. Sit at different tables, text the others, and we'll all meet there. Be prepared to move, too, we'll probably be changing to another hotel or a motel, tonight. Also - don't give out your real names. Make somethin' up if you have to." He gazed around and then settled on Temperance, "Stop being such a bitch, otherwise I'll throw you out the window in your sleep." It was mostly a joke threat, but he was gettin' real tired of her shit. "Time to go." Harley led his group out of the hotel, keeping his eyes peeled for any suspicious people. The cool metal of the gun pressed against his lower back, as it was stuck inside of the back of his jeans. "We don't have any ID, but I'm probably able to pass for about . . . twenty. The legal age in Candiah is sixteen, so we should be okay . . ." They probably weren't going to get anywhere without ID, but that was fine, they could manage. After withdrawing money from an ATM onto a temporary visa he bought, Harley stood in front of the clinic and took a breath, looking at the others. "We shouldn't need to set up appointments." It would cost them a little more for a walk-in checkup, but he had the money. "Good afternoon, ma'am." Harley greeted cordially, and began to talk to the woman about setting up appointments for him and his . . . cousins. "And that's . . . Magdalene Moorley, Bridgette English, and Harem Jefferson?" the woman asked to confirm, and Harley nodded his head, "Okay sir, and may I see some ID?" Harley gave a nod, feeling a small knot form in his stomach, and gave the woman an ID that obviously wasn't his, but the name, birth date, and age were all confirmed. The picture was scratched up a little, and so was the rest of the ID with it to make it look all at once sort of . . . oldish. The receptionist gave him and odd look but he only returned a genuine smile of waiting. "And you are the guardian for your two cousins?" she asked with a little bit of suspicion. "Bridge is an exchange student, used to live in France, and Maggie has lived with me since we were kids." he said, "Her parents aren't around anymore, and neither are mine." "And what about the other boy?" "Oh, Dillan," he said, "He's just a friend of mine, tagging along on our outing today." The woman gave him another odd look, but she was young, naive, and easy to play, so Harley got through. "Very well then, Dr. Jackson will be seeing Magdalene first." . . . Dr. Jackson? Harley raised an eyebrow and looked to the photos on the wall as the woman gave him his stuff back and he made his way to the others. Dr. Jackson . . . He found one photo of a tall man with pale eyes and light brown hair. Huh. "Alright, Maggie," Harley said to Madeline, sitting down, "The Doc'll see you first. Keep your phone with you and shout 'days' if things go to shit from the outside. I expect that from the rest of you, too." Time to wait. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That flash earlier was terrible. Was it even real? Maybe it had been from a nightmare. Or . . . something? It seemed the river was turning into a swamp and the canoe bumped into a willow tree. "The river ends here." "Mmhm." Kallisti hummed, not paying much attention. Come to think of it, she had never been in a swamp before. They were interesting places, and there was a lot of life in them. Vaguely, the thought of her surroundings being fake occurred, since her existence was fake. Everything else was too, right? Sigh. There was a bit of a clanking sound and it caught her attention, making her wonder what Devyn was doing. "I hope you enjoyed last night, and this morning, Kallisti. I . . . greatly appreciated your presence. It was wonderful meeting and spending this time with you. We could have been great friends. Maybe on another gameboard, we were--or will be." The words were registering rather slowly, and then there was the glint of the knife. Oh. She saw. Well . . . She knew there was a reason she didn't like boats. The shore would have been much preferable. "Erm . . . Devyn . . ." she murmured, still a little dazed. She scooted back a little awkwardly as Devyn got closer. Everything seemed to be coming to her so slowly. Then there was the blade on the skin of her throat. She didn't know what to say. What was there to say? Devyn wasn't killing her over killing - well, she might have actually been, but Kallisti was another person in her way. Devyn planned to kill all of the others, didn't she? Kallisti just happened to be first because of what happened to Chester. It was kind of weird. She almost didn't mind dying, after today and last night. "It is nothing personal . . . " "Ack, Devyn!" Kallisti exclaimed, the world clicking into her mind. Her whole body flinched and she felt backwards, yelping loudly - so many yelps today - and the boat shook again. She tried to sit up, only managing to lean up and hurt her arm, and then she rolled, hurting her side. The boat flipped over and Kallisti's vision was filled with blackness. A few seconds passed and she surfaced, gasping for clean air. ****. She tossed over the boat! "D - Devyn . . ." she called, swimming through the swamp to climb onto the protruding roots of a large tree. What had happened on the boat? She thought . . . Er. She held a hand her throat, not remembering if she had imagined that or not, "Erm . . . Devyn?" she called out, not wanting to get back into the water. She was pretty much soaked. Briefly, she wondered if Devyn could swim or not. She didn't think the question had come up . . . "Are you . . . there?" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The boat dipped in in the river and Kallisti made her second, very indignant yelp, grabbing onto the side of the canoe and feeling her heart drop. When things settled out again, she tried to be subtle about calming down and breathing properly. The explanation came and she listened intently, finally calm. Kallisti laughed when it was over. She couldn't help herself. It was . . . laughable! Crestatia . . . Kallisti wanted to meet this version that had been described to her. She was made out to sound . . . like a regular human - which was a great deal of relief in itself. It wasn't as if she had done a psychological and behavioral study on demons or the such. A flash of memory hit Kallisti and she dropped her empty plate. Spoiler: ✖ "WAKE UP." Her eyes shot open and Marcus inched closer so that their noses were nearly touching. He wasted no time getting to the point. "KALLISTI. I HATE YOU THE MOST. PATHETIC." His fingertips were forced harder against her skull. "REMEMBER. NOW. EVERYTHING. REMEMBER IT. I WILL NOT LET YOU PROTECT YOURSELF.DECLARATION: REMEMBER EVERYTHING.YOU WILL DIE. YOU WILL DIE,YOU COWARD, BUT I WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO DIE SO EASILY. YOU HAVE UNTIL AFTER NEW YEARS BEFORE I TAKE YOUR LIFE. I WILL NOT LET YOU HIDE ANYMORE. NEVER AGAIN. I WILL BREAK YOU." When she snapped back to reality, her breath came short, and her head shot up, looking around to see if that was real or not. Devyn was still in front of her. She was still in the boat. Good god, what had that been? Her slightly frantic movements had rocked the boat a little and she shakily reached for a bottle of milk, sipping on it. "S - Sorry . . ." she mumbled, putting a hand to her head. "That . . . is interesting. She sounds normal. N - Normal . . . It sounds like a fitting personality . . . I am interested in meeting that side of her." Though, after that flash of . . . whatever that had been, she wasn't so sure. She was curious, though. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It was kind of nice. "It is made out of a material you can see out of, but not into . . . Like a tinted glass." Interesting . . . She wondered if it was uncomfortable to wear it. "Why are you frightened . . . ? Can you not swim?" Kallisti looked up with surprised. That was the first kind of-personal question Devyn asked her. For a moment, she was stunned into silence, and then looked away. "I am able to swim, so I suppose that it is a bit of . . . Well, it is mostly uncomfortable. Drowning isn't a pleasant thought - I . . . guess it doesn't really make much sense, does it?" She fell over her words a little, "Perhaps it is the subtle rocking motion. I could never quite get over watching the movie Titanic." Kallisti laughed at how silly that sounded and then folded her legs to criss-cross. It felt odd giving longish answers. She thought of a way to redirect the conversation away from herself, "What is . . . Crestatia like? When she is calm, I mean." Kallisti gave a little laugh again, "Every time I have come to cross with her, she has been angry - but I suppose that is the rest of our fault." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Keeping an ear out for her, Harley heard her chucking her guts up. Was she sick? Stomach acid? Maybe it was eating after not eating properly for a long time. They all should have really started out with crackers and Sprite and water, and then progress from there. He kind of wanted her to tell him what was wrong, but he couldn't play the get-personal game at the moment. He had to think for the better of all of them. Harley decided that wea - - Oh. He stood from the chair, tossing the core to his fifth apple, and checked around the room. He didn't realize their surplus of weapons. Never mind, they were set. Bernie suggested camping. Harley laughed. Ironic. Now they were up north like she mentioned when they were in the mountain sanctuary . . . "I'm not too sure about that y - " he started to reply. "Do you have to talk so loud?" Well, that made one-half of the bitch squad up - though . . . Harley didn't really think of either of them like that too much anymore. They were just tired, like him, so he gave a laugh instead. Camping really didn't sound so bad, and since they had arms and money . . . It might be better to camp a little down south, though, to sneak back into the States if they needed. "We'll have to talk more about it," he replied. It seemed like more people were getting up. Septimus came from the balcony, though Harley had been up before him, and didn't see him sneak out there. He was probably confused by their situation, but there wasn't much peace to explain. "Can someone tell me why would we be dropped off in another country, and then supposedly followed? And . . .what's Crestatia like?" Harley looked over at the Duncan kid. That was a good question. Why here, why Percival? Couldn't Devyn had left them back to Brookridge? He sighed, and then thought onto Duncan's next question. This was his chance to think in an unbiased manner. " . . . Crestatia is . . . temperamental? I don't really know how to describe her, but she seems to be about as human as the rest of us despite her position above us on the gameboard. Devyn says that she's not a bad person, that we shouldn't hate her, that we're irrational for it . . . I guess she's kind of right, though it's a little irritating. Every time I've seen her, she's been pretty fussy, but if Devyn wasn't lying, then I guess she's kind-hearted?" Ugh, he didn't even know what he was saying. "That's all I've got." Jessie came back from changing and sat down back in the other chair while Harley decided to munch on a bag of dried fruit. Man. He loved fruit. "Anyone want to location to anywhere specific?" she asked. "If you could find us a private doctor's office, that'd be great. We all need check ups." . . . They didn't have an adult with them. He wished he had his fake ID, still. Well. They could manage. Somehow. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
