Rhett froze as the door opened. It was Brianne. He let out a sigh of relief, glad to see that she had come instead of a stranger. She drew her stele and dispelled the rune that kept him from entering. He shifted his weight nervously from one foot to another, his weaker leg, and winced. He gritted his teeth while doing his best to show no signs of pain.

    "
H-hey. I didn't sneak out. I just really really needed--uh--wanted to see you." By trying to make a move up the stairs he was forced to freeze and back up. Of course the injured leg was his dominant one. Of course. He took the step with his nonwounded his leg and looked down at the things which he brought her. "I..uh...wanted to thank you for putting your life on the line and cleaning up my mess. I was so close to taking out Keller and...the jerk couldn't be bothered to finish me off himself. Some Alpha. Still, I don't know why you stepped in to help me, Angel. You didn't owe me anything and you put yourself in harm's way. Maybe if you save me again I'd be convinced to work with you instead of Ash."

He shook his head and held out one of his offerings towards
Brianne. It was too late anyways, she had already seen that he had not shown up empty-handed and suddenly thowing it away wouuld be too strange even for him. "I-uh..." He had no idea what to say as he held out the assorted bouquet of flowers and medicinal plants he had stolen from Ash. Some were already dried out but he had tried to pick out the best-looking of the bunch. Thankfully Morrigan had kept him from taking anything poisonous. "Oh no. I don't know if you're allergic to anything here. Wait. Do nephilim have allergies?" Rhett spoke faster, lowering his eyes as he looked down at what else he had brought her. "I...um... doyoulikepeppersbecauseIbroughtsomeforyouandIreallylikethem."

Ash stood behind Morrigan, watching as she began to scry for the "mother" of her people. For a moment he almost believed that nothing was happening as she stared into the bloodied water until then, all at once, a look of fear and awe struck her face. The sight, the presence, that caused her to react so could even be felt by Ash. A cold shiver ran through his spine like one he had only felt once before in his entire life. He knelt beside the fairy as he pulled her into his embrace while she told him, in between sobs, where to find their target.

    "
Take a deep breath." He reached for her chin, tilting her head back away from the safety of her knees to wipe the blood off her lip and press his finger against it until the bleeding subsided. "Everything will be all right." He assured her. Even with what he felt, confidence still remained in his eyes. "We will leave when you are ready. And...thank you Morrigan. I know how much I have asked of you. I will not abuse this trust and faith you have placed in me."

    1894

"Why are you buried amongst your books, Captain? We haven't spilled blood in days because of your pointless search." The sound of his ally and only friend barging into his study caused the warlock to divert his attention away from his tome.

"It has been years since we have have formally participated in any war. Acts of justice do not count. You do not need to call me that, Lieutenant." Ash lowered the text he had been examining, finding it difficult to mentally translate a long dead language while maintaining a conversation. "The disease that struck in 1722, the same one I investigated with the warlock and Lightwood, was caused by something demonic. It was the only way for vampires to succumb so quickly. After all these years...I think I have finally found out the cause. The signs left behind are unmistakable. I should have recognized it sooner but-"

"Get on with it. Do we get to put down the scum that caused it or not?" As always, the Lieutenant's patience was thinner than a fine blade.

"It was my father." Ash stated plainly.

"You've had too much to drink, Captain. Your father is in hell like the rest of those damn demons. Even if it was him, the ritual that brought him to bed your mother was only a temporary one. He's in hell." The disbelief in his voice was strong.

Ash rose to his feet, leaving the book on the table. He had wished what his Lieutenant sad was true but it was not. For the first time since Dagny, his wife, had been taken in by the Shadowhunters and burnt he felt fear. "Did you not think it strange when I brought you to such a peaceful country? Those same signs when he was last summoned have begun again. Only they haven't stopped. He is here. And so is my sibling."

It pained him to see her hurt from giving him the name as it was all to clear to see how difficult it was for her to bring herself to write it down. She had not dared to speak the name aloud and as stared at the name scrawled on the paper she placed in his hand, he had an idea why. He had known this name but not as one of the fey but, rather, one the mundanes had once worshiped as a goddess. To even be associated with some such name as that told him exactly what kind of being they were dealing with.

    "
I see." Ash crumpled the paper in his hand. He torched the piece in his hand and allowed the ashes to drift onto the floor below. "Then she is the one we must find." Ash placed his hand on her cheek softly. "You once found Rhett. Would you be able to do the same for her?"

    ~

Rhett felt self-conscious walking through the streets carrying the gifts he had to offer her. At that moment he wished he had been a warlock instead of a werewolf so that he would hide himself under the cloak of a glamour. He had once heard that humans could be taught magic or granted it through the power of demons but he knew not of the methods needed to do so. Asking Ash about it was far too intimidating. Still, being able to cast a simple spell, even if it required ingredients, special words, and preparation held an allure to him. Rhett looked at one of his hands, feeling worse about such silly and petty offerings he had brought. It might have just been better to toss them away and give a heartfelt word of thanks(before running away) than to make things...awkward.

His nerves were tested as he neared an old building with the appearance of a church. The wolf slowed his advance, trying to take as long as possible to arrive. Just as he was about to make his way up the steps his face slammed right into an invisible barrier. "
Ow!" Rhett glared at the invisible-ness that stood before him. He kicked at the wall before him. "I can't even knock on the door. This really is awkward now. They could have at least put up a sign saying 'watch your step, invisible wall here' or something." Letting out a sigh he stared up at the doorway that was beyond his reach. "Open sesame?" He spoke out, almost pleading.

Ash nodded slowly and scratched his chin in contemplation over Morrigan's words. Everything she said, being a fairy, was completely true and left him wondering how to proceed around such a delicate matter. Then again, proceeding delicately was no way to keep anyone safe. Morrigan's wish to stay true to her people even though she had already broken her vows to her family was, admittedly, one of the reasons he cared for her now. "I am glad to see you feeling such loyalty to your people but, no matter how much you revere her, a name is just a name and she is but another of the fey, just as you. More ancient, more wise, more cunning, and many times more powerful than both of us combined but still just a fairy."

    "
Nothing, save for life itself, must be held sacred if you are to be free. We cannot run from Cináed and the other knights your Queen will inevitably send. Not forever. Unless you wish to submit to them and be a slave with a title or kill as many of your own kind as you possibly can before they kill us, there is only one other option." The warlock closed the gap between the two in a long stride, taking Morrigan's hand is his own. "I will not allow you to be taken away but as it is, your safety won't be guaranteed until we fix this at the root of the problem. I honestly would prefer not making a direct confrontation with Titania. Even with assistance...persuading her would not be easy."

He breathed out slowly. "I understand how important this is to you but your life is more important than any vow. Please. Give me a name."

Fire and freedom? That was what Morrigan had seen in his mentor? This confused Rhett somewhat even though he could see what she meant by "fire" even if most of what he saw from Ash could be described as "icy". Ironic that his name was not Frost instead of the one he had given himself. As Rhett stepped out into the cool city air, his thoughts wandered away from the two he had left behind and onto what he would do next. The wolf took in a deep breath, immediately clutching in chest as pain coursed through his body from the stretching of his wounds.

    "
I feel more like a doll that's been sewn back together rather than the guy who tried ripping an alpha open like a piñata." He chuckled. More pain came. "Ugh. Maybe I was the piñata." Rhett looked down at the hatchet Ash had given him, wondering what would come if he were to follow the warlock's advice. His curiosity would have to wait until later. Slowly, Rhett headed towards the Institute. He had only seen it a handful of times up close but had never seen what it looked like on the inside...though he was unsure if he would even be allowed in. Now that he had begun to think about it, he had no idea how he would even make contact. Was there a secret knock he had to use? A codeword? If there was one, it was probably "by the Angel". He had heard that so many times he almost believed it was a nephilim greeting.

    ~

Ash's black eyes stayed fixed on the door as
Morrigan spoke to him. "Romantic? Yes, well I was young once. Despite being brought up in a demon-worshiping cult." He turned away and walked towards the living room's fireplace. The flame was unlit and the hearth was stained black from soot and ash, obviously in desperate need of a good cleaning. The fireplace was not what he was interested in however but rather the fire iron set that sat to the side. He lifted one of the irons and turned it around in his hand, examining the subtle craftsmanship woven into the iron. They were a great deal more ancient than he was.

    "
Hmph. Fire analogies do seem to be in abundance around me. I should have seen this coming when I chose my name." He placed the poker back amongst its kin and glanced back at Morrigan. It was already time to begin working on extreme measures. Morrigan would take no joy in it but he would have to push her further than even he was comfortable with. Going to the Queen to correct the Court's ways would never work. Even with all his knowledge and skill they would never get her alone for him to persuade her to see things his way. She was stuck in old world thinking.

    "
Tell me," Ash eyed Morrigan, "who remains that has existed before Titania's rise to ruler of your people?"

Ash cleared his throat with a cough as Morrigan dropped his hand, Rhett making his comment about the state of affairs between himself and Morrigan. "You need not concern yourself with that, Rhett." Taking the nightshade from the young wolf and his assortment of medicinal flowers, Ash tilted his head as he observed him. He could have ordered Rhett to put everything back where it belonged but given the fact that the Rhett had now been standing and walking about almost as if nothing had happened, a small piece of relief found its way to Ash allowing the werewolf to have his way.

Knowing the kind of sentimental person Rhett to be Ash had a strong hunch as to who he was going to thank next. "
Gifts for the Lightwood girl but none for us? Wie unhöflich von dir?" The warlock sighed. "Fine, go. It is clear that I have underestimated how durable you are. To have nearly killed Keller by yourself was quite impressive."

    "
What...? Seriously? You're letting me go just like that?"

    "
Not entirely. Morrigan and I have business elsewhere. I will not be able to watch your back or get you out of harm's way again for some time." The blade of Ash's hatchet flashed in his hand. He spun it around and held out the handle towards Rhett. "Until you replenish those silver bullets of yours, this will have to do to keep you alive in case you find yourself in any further trouble." The wolf reluctantly gripped the hatchet but Ash did not release it just yet. His eyes narrowed at Rhett, looking hard at the young man. "Keller's pack has not been finished off but given the state in which they have been left," Ash raised an eyebrow, "If you're heading in the direction of Shadowhunters, it might do you some good to ask for backup and take that pack for yourself. Rehabilitate them. After all, how willing would they be to pick a fight with the next toughest wolf they've ever seen?" He released the hatchet and motioned towards the door. "Go."

"You...You're trying to get me killed, aren't you? Couldn't be happy with me just walking around, huh?" Rhett shook his head slowly while his eyes fell to the weapon Ash had loaned him. It looked ancient, that was for sure. An iron blade with a silver edge along with a handle that was crafted out of hand-carved wood. The weapon was balanced almost too perfectly as if it had been tampered with using magic in some way and no doubt it had given its pristine condition despite centuries of use. Rhett was almost afraid to ask how many lives this one tool had taken.

    "
Why would I seek out the very same pack that wanted me dead while I'm still, very obviously, limping about?" Rhett lowered the hatchet, staring at the warlock in confusion.

    "
They just might fear you. You are proof that their leader could not get the job done. Perhaps when I return, I shall give you a proper lesson in combat."

    "
So all those times you knocked me on my ass weren't proper lessons?"

    "
With nearly four centuries of death to my name, you really believed I was putting in any effort?" Ash scoffed causing Rhett to frown in response.

    The werewolf looked
Morrigan's way as he began to head towards the door, doing his best to control the weight he put on his injured leg to keep from limping so badly. "I honestly don't know what you see in him. Unless you like being bossed aro-Nope. Not gonna put that thought in my head. Agh." Rhett stopped at the door, wondering where Ash could have been going with the fairy. He knew better than to ask by now knowing that he would never receive an answer. "Stay safe, okay? And don't worry too much about me. Limpy can take care of himself." This was not spoken just towards Morrigan, but towards the two of them as he exited the house.

    ~

Cin lowered his head respectfully at the Queen's command. He had a sinking feeling that she could see through his words though which "words" she had read were beyond his guesses. She had given Morrigan the same amount of time he had as well as the command to carry out her order. With himself and twenty other knights none would survive if they came between him and his duty to bring back Morrigan. Not even Ash.

Cin's eyes fixed on the hourglass placed before him as he was dismissed. A cold reminder of what little time there was left before blood had to be shed. As the knight left the Queen's presence, he directed himself towards his own residence. It was time to prepare his executioner's blade, a claymore. Whether it would see use or not would depend on the actions of Ash and
Morrigan. Deep down, he hoped he would not need to stain it in blood.

Frustration ebbed at the knight's mind as he made his way back to the Court, a simple glamour concealing him from the sight of the Mundanes, while his fingers tapped against the basket-shaped guard on his sword. The annoyances of a warlock who refused to listen to reason were infuriating. Did he not know of the Queen's power? Never mind that she was well over a millennium old and vastly more powerful than Ash on a personal level the Queen had the resources and manpower to bring him down.

Cin scratched his chin, looking down as his boots crunched against the soft grass that covered Central Park, as he wondered what could keep the warlock so calm despite his warnings. Something must have been up Ash's sleeve and he did not like not knowing what it was.

Touching the lake's water a stone path was revealed to him. His glamour was dispelled as he descended the steps and walked down the winding path entering the forest where most of his kind resided. Hanging lamps and fireflies that roamed free in the forest were the only sources of light to guide him on his trek through the land. The other fey ignored him as he moved forward as it was a common sight to see a knight direct himself towards the Queen's throne. Despite the fey being known for their musical qualities everything was quite calm and quiet compared to the bustling city above. Cin found it easier to concentrate within the tranquility by the Court.

He entered a clearing, slowing his pace down as his eyes darted about in search for his brother, a fellow knight, only to not find him anywhere to be seen. Perhaps he had wandered off and was to be back at any moment or, Cin hoped, he was not to return for the duration of Cin's stay. The Queen was at the clearing's center, above all, raised on her golden throne adorned with golden vines wrapped around it and decorated with golden roses to display her magnificence. Truly, in her elegant form, she was an intimidating sight to behold.

Cináed knelt down before his queen and bowed his head respectfully. "
Your informant, Morrigan Moonsong, could not be returned at this moment. The warlock Ash is tending to her illness that was caused by the one known as Masque." He rose to his feet. "She will be well enough to return tomorrow." Cin chose to keep any mention of his threats towards Ash from the Queen to keep her from thinking anything had gone south. If force had to be used, it would be better to handle it himself rather than drag the Queen into a mess that would be beneath her.

Ash rubbed his knuckles as he stared at the door which Cin had exited from. "
You can come out now, Morrigan." With just 24 hours before Cin took action he knew there would be no time to waste. Plans would have to be accelerated and there would be no room for error of any kind. Everything would have to go smoothly, exactly as he planned, for any kind of reasonable outcome. He turned towards the fairy, eyeing the woman knowing what kind of fear this situation would have placed on her.

    "
Do not worry. One day is all the time we need to secure your safety." Ash went behind the counter where the ingredients he kept were near and knelt down. Whispering a word under his breath an iron handle appeared on the wooden floor revealing a concealed trap door. He pulled it open revealing nothing but darkness below. His shadow sank into the depths underneath the house, vanishing in the cover of the black. "We will have to do some traveling, now, if we are to be back before our time is up." As he spoke, the shadow returned with Morrigan's own sword. Ash recast the glamour to the trapdoor and walked over towards Morrigan holding out her blade to her. "You will have to be prepared to take a life, perhaps several, by the end of this."

    "
Once I check on Rhett and make sure-"

    "
Ugh...my head...Why does my everything hurt so badly?" The werewolf, having stepped out of the room in which he had been left to rest, looked around the room obviously dazed and weary. His eyes focused on Ash who was staring back at him with a mix of confusion and concern. Tilting his head, Rhett blinked slowly before realizing that the situation required him to speak. "I'm not a ghost. Wait, am I? Do those exist?" Without waiting for a response Rhett rounded a corner, limping slowly as he clutched a bandaged wound on his chest, to vanish into his own room. The struggle was real...to get into his clothes, a carbon copy of the pair Keller had ruined in their battle.

    "
I never thanked you-Ow!" He winced as he carefully slipped on his coat, his movements stiff. "Both of you. For pulling me out of my own mess. I'm sorry if I put anyone in danger by being so reckless."

"Where do you think you're going? Go back and get your rest before I add to the list of your extensive injuries."

"I'm fine. As long as I don't do any flexing or Changing I'm sure your patch job will hold." Rhett could feel the warlock's eyes narrowing on him but Ash said nothing. Apparently he was willing to allow him to do what he wanted without making the effort to stop him. It would have taken little more than a strong shove to put Rhett back down but he was left alone.

    "
I'll just take some...stuff if you don't mind..." For once, Ash did not comment on Rhett's minor theft of a favored spice of the werewolf and a handful of select plants used for...Rhett did not know what they were used for. He just knew they were easy enough to replace. He made sure to limp slower while in sight of the two to use whatever sympathy Ash had to his advantage. Taking one day without being scolded was all the rest he really needed. Just as Rhett headed towards the door, passing by Morrigan and Ash, he sniffed the air and paused. He sniffed once more. Rhett's eyes widened as his head flicked back and forth between warlock and fairy. "Seriously!?"

Cináed rubbed his cheek where he had been struck. Despite his durability, the blow had still stung and would bruise if he did not tend to it. "Holding back does not suit you." The knight spoke after a brief moment of tense silence. If simply demanding for Morrigan's return did not sway Ash, then he had to try another means of forcing the warlock to relent and release her. "It will take more than a modest amount of convincing to force my elder brother and Morrigan's family from dealing her too harsh a punishment should she stay here a moment longer."

    "
They are not as..." Cin paused, racking his brain for the right word, "Progressive as I am. No doubt by now you have seen what kind of mindset their behavior and culture has imprinted on Miss Moonsong." Cin folded his arms. In truth, he did not wish to see Morrigan harmed but his duty was to bring her back.

    "
She is not well enough to travel." Ash stated plainly. "Your presence here is unwelcome. Leave until you are called for."

    "
Is that how it is? Do you know what they would do to her?" Cin gripped the warlock by his bloodstained collar and looked into his pitch black eyes. "My brother can be most cruel when he wishes it. Moreso than I. He will take your actions as an offense against him and have his way with the girl just to prove to himself that she belongs to him. Her parents? I have heard of what they are capable of. They will break her. If you stand in their way, I cannot promise you that one as understanding as I will be knocking on your door and they will not just send one knight."

    "
Ah." The warlock said calmly. "If you know what they are capable of then surely you should know that it would not do them any good."

Cin growled in response, releasing Ash's collar. "
When did you get so smug? Did eighty years in the Spiral do something to mess with your head?" The knight glared at him. "I could fight my way past you if need be. Even if it takes every ounce of power I can must, I would do whatever is necessary to bring her back." His hand rested on the hilt of the blade at his hip.

    "
Do you honestly believe that would be worth it?"

Taking in a deep breath, Cin relaxed. "
Twenty-four hours. Not a single second more. She will be returned home whether she is well or not. If you stand in the way," The knight turned his back on Ash, "you will find it difficult to remain so calm." With those last words, Cináed made for the door and left, slamming it on his exit.

    • In the Wyllt Galaxy the first race to achieve space travel were the Peras. Expanding their horizons by creating new methods of crossing vast distances and filling multiple star systems with colonies of their own, they began to encounter new sentient species around the galaxy. To keep peace amongst the various lifeforms in the galaxy, an organization was formed. The Galactic Coalition.

The Galactic Coalition consists of four species, encompassing their homeworlds and their collective space colonies. In the interest of keeping peace and promoting relations between the allied races, a combined exploration and military force was created dubbed simply as the Coalition Corps. Since then, other branches of service have emerged but none have ever had the glamor or recognition the Corps have received.

The Ouranos, the Coalition's latest flagship, is set to make its maiden voyage after having docked at a base in the Peras system to collect the remainder of its crew. Even given the light air about the event, rumors have begun to spread over the increased Corps presence on the edges of Coalition space. With the recent loss of the past flagship, Elanus, three years ago under mysterious circumstances one thought is prevalent amongst many. This is the onset of war.

    • Training at the Coalition Corps Academy is completed within three years with an additional year of mandatory service on a Coalition starship. Any wishing to be a part of the Corps, regardless of age, is accepted so long as they pass an entrance exam and follow through with several other standard requirements. Students concentrate on one area of field of which they will find their skills to be put to best use. Upon graduation, students have the option of either serving on a starship under the command of an officer or transfer to one of the Coalition’s many facilities and colonies to work among the best the Coalition has to offer. Note: Perhaps if the Corps focused on their own duties rather than interfering with the Coalition's other branches they would not be so notorious amongst those in Intelligence.

      Ranks

      Ensign – No limit
      Lieutenant – 2 available
      Lieutenant commander – 1 available
      Commander – 0 available

      Divisions

Engineering – In charge of keeping a ship in working order. Those in this field are required to have both high and low-level knowledge of a ship’s components as well as its computers.

Piloting – Those in this field must be capable of piloting anything from a small shuttle to a large vessel. Shuttle pilots are expected to be able to fly into combat zones when necessary.

Medical – Tending to the wounded, curing the sick, and developing antidotes against new found foreign toxins are the tasks many in this field are required to accomplish. Those well-practiced in psychology are also found in this branch.

Science – Physics, math, chemistry, biology, geology, and communications specialists as well as several other areas of interest are found within this widespread field.

Security – Those in security are expected to be proficient in close quarters self-defense and weapon use. Security officers of high rank are often reassigned from field duty to tactical duty; tactical being expected to be well versed in battle strategy and ship armaments.

    • Peras

The Peras are an ancient species with appearances and body composition nearly identical to that of humans. Early Peras culture is by far the most violent of all the other species of the galaxy and possibly the universe with several periods where they had nearly experienced total planet annihilation. Much of their history is lost due to the constant destruction of each previous generation but somehow, they had managed to evolve beyond their violent tendencies and become the first species to accomplish space travel. Their homeworld, Pando, has a higher gravity than that of the planet Earth leaving the Peras to be somewhat physically superior to humans.

All economic, medical, and political crises have been eliminated from their homeworld and have been for three hundred years. The Peras have a varied culture and are, more often than not, altruistic in nature. However, in the galactic community, they are often seen as self-righteous and arrogant. Note: They seem a little stiff to me. Maybe it's because I've never seen one get drunk. Can they get drunk?

      Other notable characteristics:
      • Peras are more resistant than the other species to temperature extremes.
      • Capable of mating with the other three species but the resultant offspring is almost always a Peras.
      • Through touch, Peras are capable of gaining emphatic insight on another.
      Homeworld: Pando
      Average Lifespan: 300 years.
      Aging Rate: Slow.
      Compatible Species: Setesh, Varuna, Maraku.

      -----------------------------------

      Setesh

The Setesh are a race of humanoids that look similar to the Peras. Every member of the species is bound with a symbiotic organism at birth known as the Ryve. The Setesh, were a naturally aggressive race and before the binding with the Ryve they were doomed to fight amongst each other until they caused their own extinction. A thousand years have passed since the two species entered their symbiotic relationship.

The Ryve attach to the brain of the Setesh, being carried through spores naturally found on their homeworld. Only the Setesh are capable of becoming hosts for the Ryve. They are able to communicate directly into the brains of their host often making suggestions that would be mutually beneficial for both species.

A single Ryve symbiote attaches to the brain of the host Setesh and causes several symptoms to occur:
      • A lowering of the high levels of aggression normally found in the Setesh.
      • Setesh gain immunity to nearly every known mental and psychological disorder known in the galaxy.
      • High resistance against uninvited telepathic communication.
      • Due to certain new chemicals running through the veins of the Setesh their veins glow with a bluish-green tint in the dark.
On their own, the Setesh have a high regard for honor although the definition of “honor” changes on an individual basis. In earlier times, the Setesh gave harsher punishments for those abandoning their military positions than they did murder. To some degree, this mindset still remains as they have a strong distaste for cowardice.

      Ryve

The Ryve cannot be separated from their hosts without death of both organisms. The Ryve are extremely intelligent and reach maturity from the spores from which they grow within one month. Only one member of their species binds with their host, attaching directly to the brain. Though they are capable of speaking to their host directly into their mind, they are silent more often than not. Though possible for the Ryve to take complete control of their host’s body this is only done when the host is knocked unconscious and is in immediate danger due to the massive increase of potentially fatal metabolism this causes. The Ryve have no concepts of love, hate, greed, or most emotions the Setish possess and are thus creatures of logic who wish little more than the continued survival of themselves and their hosts. Note: Creepy but useful. I had nightmares for several days after seeing an autopsy of one of these back at the Academy.

      Homeworld: Seten
      Average Lifespan: 120 years.
      Aging Rate: Normal.
      Compatible Species: Peras, Maraku.

      -----------------------------------

      Varuna

The Varuna are a peaceful species, perhaps due in part to their long lifespans, with a very strong urge to avoid confrontation. Note: Being peaceful does not equate to weakness. They have a great respect for life no matter how vile it may be but they are more than willing to bring someone to the brink of death in defense of themselves or another.

Of the four members of the Coalition the Varuna are the easiest to tell apart from the other races due to their skin colors. Water accounts for just over 80% of their homeworld’s surface with most of the life found within being various forms of brightly colored coral and plankton. This has caused the Varuna to evolve with similarly colored skin to blend with their surroundings, shades of green or blue skin being the most common color to appear in their species.

Varuna culture has given the species a high respect for lawful conduct and a strong sense of community.

      Other unique traits include:
      • Webbed feet. Note: Unknown why they developed legs in the first place.
      • Highly developed eyes that allow the Varuna to see in darkness and detect thermal signatures.
      • A second pair of “lungs” with the sole purpose of drawing oxygen out of water to allow for indefinite travels underwater.
      • High resistance to changes of pressure.
      Homeworld: Telisto
      Average Lifespan: 600 years.
      Aging Rate: Very slow.
      Compatible Species: Peras.

      -----------------------------------

      Maraku

The Maraku homeworld is under a permanent windstorm. The windy weather and sub-Earth gravity made it possible for humanoids to evolve in such a way that flight became a natural reality for the Maraku species. Travel by air was faster than travel by land due to the heavily uneven terrain of their planet. Maraku are hunters, carnivores, and rely on a strict diet of meat to survive.

The Maraku people are the newest of the races to enter the Coalition, entering three decades after the Setesh. They are a highly intelligent race, albeit a young one, that have grown in a culture that preaches a high degree of individuality and self-reliance.

      Features of note:
      • Two feathered wings, usually colored brown or gray, attached to the back. Easily collapsible to fit under most standard clothing without causing any unwanted bulges.
      • Maraku who engage in physically demanding activities often wear padded suits. The ease of bone breakage occurring due to their low bone density makes this necessary. Note: Being lighter than the other species results in higher natural agility and top running speed.
      • Maraku have high stamina because of their increased lung capacity but lower physical strength than the other species.
      • Maraku have excellent near and far sight.
      Homeworld: Tyche
      Average Lifespan: 200 years.
      Aging Rate: Slow.
      Compatible Species: Peras, Setesh.

      -----------------------------------

      Xen

A race of cybernetic organisms that have advanced rapidly for their short period of existence. They originate from Pando, having been created for the sole purpose of seeking out planets suitable for colonization and the terraformation of worlds in preparation for future Peras settlements. Soon after the Xen were sent on their mission, having started out as vaguely humanoid androids, global war errupted on Pando and the Xen were forgotten for nine centuries.

Before the beginning of the Galactic Coalition, the Xen had settled on a world they called Xhan. At some point in time a Coronal Mass Ejection from one of the stars in their binary system hit Xhan and caused heavy damage to the long-term memories of the Xen wiping out much of their knowledge of Pando save for the fact that their creators had abandoned them.

When the Peras had began their exploration of new worlds the Xen were the first to reach out. Much of the information between the reestablishing of contact between the Peras and Xen was lost. Xen extremists attacked a science vessel and evidently used their bodies for research on making the Xen part biotic. The reasons for this are unknown and despite no further violence from the Xen and the extradition of those responsible for the attack to Pando for a trial, the Xen were never truly forgiven. As such, the Xen were never allowed entrance into the Coalition. Note: With good reason. Forced integration of our DNA with their mechanical bodies? They never gave us a reason to trust them. We're only lucky they haven't bothered to attack the other species to "upgrade" their biotic components. They look like one of us Peras now. Almost. Their features are too "perfect" and are easily distinguished from an organic for my people.

      Intel:
      • The Xen only require sleep once a week. The stamina of the Xen is higher than that of the most physically fit member of the Coalition races.
      • Xen are capable of communication with each other by sending high band EM pulses to each other. In layman terms, the mechanical equivalent of telepathy. This ability can be used to control compatible electronics.
      • "Hacking" a Xen has proven to be virtually impossible. Their kind possesses the greatest knowledge and innate skill in computer security of any known species.
      • Xen are no stronger than the average Peras, Varuna, Setesh, or Maraku. A side effect of being a cybernetic race. However, their metallic skeletons have proven to be far more durable than an organic's.
      • Xen have no issues seeing in the darkness and have augmented memories allowing them to recall any detail perfectly. It is likely their other senses have been augmented as well.
      • In their bloodstream are nanites which serve to heal their wounds rapidly. A Xen can recover from a broken "bone" in hours and lacerations in minutes. Most toxins have no effect on the Xen as a result.
      • The Xen are particularly vulnerable to plasma weapons. Even grazing shots can seriously harm them and prevent them from healing normally.
      • Unsurprisingly, they cannot swim. Their mechanical components make them just dense enough to sink in water. Given that they do require a minimal amount of air to survive, being stuck in the middle of an ocean would be lethal to a Xen.
      Homeworld: Xhan
Average Lifespan: 300 years. Need more information as to why it is not indefinite.
Aging Rate: No visible aging once maturity is reached.
      Compatible Species: Hopefully none.

    • Translators
      – Naturally, all the species in the galaxy do not speak the same language. In the effort of keeping communication simple, a translator with a database of all known languages is implanted into all those who engage in space travel. New languages can be patched into the translators at any time once sufficiently analyzed. Note: Some words don't have a translation. I learned that the hard way on Seten after the aftermath of a very violent misunderstanding.

Pyres – Handheld devices carried by security personnel in the Coalition. Though their official name is “Personal Radiation Emitters” the name Pyre stuck due to a setting on the device that acts as a heating beam. Typically used for their primary setting, a concussive stunning beam.

Gravity Rails – The fastest mode of travel in the galaxy. By compressing space in front of a vessel and expanding the space behind it, a vessel can travel far faster than light can by simply traveling a fraction of the distance from Point A to Point B. The only limitation is that one “Gravity Station” had to be constructed in order to launch a ship and another Gravity Station had to be present at the endpoint of the journey in order to stop the ship. The Peras have spent hundreds of years traveling to various locations around the galaxy and constructing thousands of such devices.

      Tachyon Drives
      – The most common method of achieving superluminal (faster-than-light) travel with a starship. All but the most recent ships come with these equipped. Tachyon Drives also serve as the general power source for the vessel.

Superluminal Bursts – The method of travel Tachyon Drives achieve to reach faster-than-light speeds. Though not nearly as fast as Gravity Rails, even slow Superluminal Bursts—often just called Bursts—can traverse a solar system in minutes.

Aether Drives – The newest form of power source found only in the most advanced ships in the galaxy. Little is known about these drives. Note: The fundamentals behind these are not even understood by engineers working with these on the field. Apparently it's a secret known only to the highest officials in the Coalition.

    • Pyre – Made by the Peras. Originally named the "Personal Radiation Emitter" before taking the colloquial name "Pyre" due to its secondary setting, the Pyre is a collapsable pistol often used by security or crew memebers expecting to enter low-danger environments. The Pyre has two settings. The first fires a concussive beam of low-intensity plasma meant to stun or incapacitate a target. The second setting is fires a beam of intense heat. The primary setting is incapable of penetrating shields and armor while the secondary setting drains the Pyre's power reserves quickly making it ill-suited for combat.

AER – Developed by the Peras. The AER is a pistol that fires bolts of plasma. Recoil from these discharges is almost nonexistant. The AER is a standard weapon with almost limitless applications due to its moderate effectiveness against all kinds of targets. The AER was made to be the combat-ready equivalent of the Pyre and, as such, delivers a much higher damage output than its smaller cousin.

Soldano – An older rifle developed by the Setesh. Due to its versatility and reliability, the Soldano has remained in service for years after its introduction into the Coalition Corps. The Soldano is a semi-automatic rifle that fires extremely powerful rounds capable of piercing through most armor. The effectiveness of the Soldano is greatly reduced when put against shields however its high stopping power makes it an excellent choice against anything else.

Kemper – A shotgun made by the Maraku that, like the HESU, fires ionic bursts. The spread and distance of the spray of ionic "pellets" can be adjusted by holding the trigger down at different lengths of time. A quick pull-and-release of the trigger fires a short-range wide spread of particulate. Holding down the trigger for a longer period of time before releasing creates a more concentrated spread over a longer distance.

Trem-Blade – A powerful cutting tool developed by the Varuna for use underwater. Unlike plasma torches which require protection to use, the Trem-Blade's edge is operates at room temperature. When the switch at the handle is pressed, the Trem-Blade's blade materializes. The blade can cut through most materials with ease and, with its high frequency energy, can phase through shields with no effort.

HESU – Created by the Maraku to be a weapon light enough to fly with with next to no recoil, the HESU is perfect for mobile combat and providing cover fire. The HESU is a fully automatic rifle that fires small ionic bursts rather than bullets. While this reduces its effectiveness against heavy armor, the HESU is a powerful tool in taking down shields quickly and still works well against unarmored targets.

Laney – A Setesh sniper rifle meant to push the limits of recoil-dampening technology. The Laney is a hybrid between a railgun and the more traditional firearm. With the sheer amount of kinetic energy behind a single round fired from this weapon, even shielded and armored targets stand little chance of surviving a shot from the Laney. The Laney has a maximum range of 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) however the curvature of planets and the hundreds of factors needed to be taken into account making such a shot, even with targeting assistance, is nigh-impossible. The Laney is restricted for use by Security personnel only.

EmissaryQuint's personal firearm. Developed by the Coalition as an alternative to the AER for Intelligence operatives. Offers a greater "punch" than the AER at the cost of greater energy expenditure. The Emissary is undetectable through weapons scans making it the firearm of choice for being a concealed gun...despite its size.

    • 1. Generic rules apply (KHV’s rules, no godmodding, and no powerplaying).

      2. For now, you can have up to three characters. Only one per species.

      3. Hybrid characters are allowed. “Compatible species” listed above simply refers to which races other races can produce children with.

      4. To keep it simple, hybrid characters only display traits from one parent.

      5. No, your character can’t be good at everything but that doesn’t mean they can only be good at one thing. Keep your character’s skills reasonable.

      6. Your character does not have to be part of the Corps but the RP will center on the ship they will be traveling on. If your character lives on some distant colony with no reason for the Corps to show up, you will have a bad time.

      7. Please message me if you have any questions or concerns about this RP. Whether it’s on help joining or on making a post.

      8. Feel free to take influence from the realm of sci-fi to help your posts. This RP has taken influence from Star Trek, Mass Effect, and a handful of other things.

      9. Going with rule 8, some of the more fantastical pieces of technology from something like Star Trek simply don’t exist. I. E. There are no teleporters or food replicators.

      10. I will add more rules if necessary.

      Sex: Female
      Age: 40
      Species: Setesh
      Appearance: Altius
      Rank: Captain
      Division: Science
Bio: Having lived her entire early life on a space colony, Almira was well-acclimated to space life. Her parents had been part of a team of researchers giving her an appreciation for science, particularly in biology, but she had always wanted more out of life than to live out her days on a colony. Almira entered the Coalition Corps Academy at 16, and graduated at the top of her class within three years, much faster than average. After years of service she was given command of the Coalition's latest flagship, the Ouranos, due in part to her vast scientific knowledge and diplomatic ability.
Other: The Ouranos is the second vessel Almira has commanded. The first being an aging exploration ship.

      Name: Irrin Quint
      Sex: Male
      Age: 80
      Species: Peras
      Appearance: Quint
      Rank: N/A
      Division: Pilot
Bio: Former Captain of the Coalition's previous flagship, Elanus, until its untimely destruction three years earlier. Quint was one of the few survivors to escape the tragedy. The events that transpired that day were covered up by Coalition Intelligence. Quint resigned from the Corps only to be assigned to Intelligence as an Inspector, one who examines the working order of new ships and internal affairs of its crew to ensure its operations run smoothly. Currently, he has been assigned to the Ouranos despite his requests that the duty be transferred to another.
Other: Due to the loss of his ship, Elanus, the overwhelming majority of those who know his name have a "more than unfavorable" opinion of him.

      Name: Brianne Lightwood
      Sex: Female
      Age: 25
      Species: Setesh
      Appearance:
      Boop
Rank: Commander (because Arch said so)
      Division: Security
Bio: Brianne was born and raised on a small farming colony in the outer reaches of space. Her home was attacked by illegal slavers that killed those she loved and captured the rest. Brianne raised a small rebellion of slaves to escape, stealing an escape pod from the bandits. They were picked up by air traffic, and taken back to safety for evaluation. Most were rehabilitated into new homes and lives, safe within military patrol, but Brianne wasn't satisfied with a safe life. She wanted to keep what had happened to her from happening to another.

Brianne joined the Coalition Corps as she soon as she was able, and rose through the ranks quickly, gaining attention with her proficient use of skills and talent. She was promoted before thirty to Commander, making her one of the youngest in history to be given such a title.

      Age: 96
      Species: Varuna
      Appearance:
      ~
      Rank: Lieutenant
      Division: Medical
Bio: Clarity was born and raised on her species' home planet in a loving and peaceful environment. Despite the draw of the calm and tranquil, Clarity accompanied her Peras father off world in order to become a little less sheltered. The station they landed on was attacked by mercenaries, and while Clarity's father and other forces fought off the invaders, Clarity found she had a penchant for tending to the wounded.

The desire to help save lives that were injured in battle only grew, and Clarity joined the Coalition in order to sate herself.
      Other: Goes by Clary.

      Name: Yvette Greer
      Sex: Female
      Age: 21
      Species: Maraku
      Appearance: Here
      Rank: Ensign
      Division: Pilot
Bio: Yvette is an energetic young woman with a sense of adventure. What she wants the most is just to see the worlds and escape her home land for the time being. She plans on eventually going back, but she doesn't know when. In her own town she is the daughter of someone quite important, and is treated as such. Getting annoyed with being treated so much better than everyone else, Yvette decided to leave and hide from all that by joining the Corps. Here no one knew who she was so she didn't get treated as anything special. That was fine by her.

With her own ability to fly, Yvette decided that would be the easiest course to go down, and she excelled. She loved to fly, not only on her own but she loved to be in control of a ship, no matter what the size. It gave her freedom in it's own way and it was amazing. Even when in danger Yvette finds the thrill invigorating and wouldn't pass it up for anything.
Other: Yvette is a member of the royal family in Tyche. She is not in direct line to the throne, but is cousins with the current prince. Her mother is the king's younger sister.

      Name: Crow
      Sex: Male
      Age: 20
      Species: Varuna
      Appearance:
      Caw-Caw
      Rank: Ensign
      Division: Medical
Bio: Crow was never one for fighting, mostly because of his lack of physical ability when it comes to that sort of thing. Medical treatment and other such things were much more his style. Thus when given the chance to join the corps, he decided to do so in the medical division.
Other: He doesn't know why his name is Crow despite his webbed feet.

      Name: Aeros Rivida
      Sex: Male
      Age: 19
      Species: Maraku/Peras
      Appearance:
      Koro-sensei
      Rank: Ensign
      Division: Pilot
Bio: Aeros is a risk taker and while that wasn't the best of traits for someone who is a pilot, Aeros also is pretty lucky which usually only shows at certain times. Things on his home world were getting too mundane for him and thus wanted to try out something new. Not that he had a probelm with how peaceful things were there. Eventually he decided to join the Corps. He'd heard various stories about them and the tales that he had heard were good enough to catch his interest.
Other: Aeros usually keeps his wings hidden.

      Name: Kyra Blackthorn & Tox
      Sex: Female
      Age: 34
      Species: Setesh & Ryve
      Appearance: Kyra Blackthorn
      Rank: Lieutenant Commander
      Division: Engineer
Bio: Always the hands-on type, Kyra knew her calling was in engineering. She initially had trouble with the machinations of of ships, but her Ryve companion, Tox, helped her understand it. Tox is slightly more active in Kyra's life than other Ryve are with their Setesh. Though it still lacks most emotional capacity, Tox seems to get some sort of twisted enjoyment out of causing Kyra to say or do something unintentionally like using the completely wrong word in a sentence. Kyra may be the host and the actual Coalition officer, but Tox has a high respect for the Coalition's ships, virtually worshiping them, as the Ryve sees the ships as hosts to their symbotic crew: one can't survive without the other. The Ouranos is Kyra's and Tox's second ship and Kyra suspects Tox is slightly bitter about leaving their last one... well as bitter as Ryve could be.

      Name: Relaganos "Rel" Gavi
      Sex: Male
      Age: 139
      Species: Varuna
      Appearance: Rel Gavi
      Rank: Lieutenant
      Division: Security
Bio: Born to a lower branch of a noble Varuna family, Rel always felt out of place with his own people. Though others ignored him in favor of his royal relatives, his cousins always treated him as one of their own. However, a tragic incident in his "teenage" years caused him to be exiled from his home community. Not wanting to make a home with other Varuna, he enrolled in the Coalition Corps Academy three years ago. A volatile anger made a great fighter and -though he's refused to kill due to the Varuna respect of life- successfully became a Security officer. After getting a position on the ship of his choice, he found out that he's been transferred to the Ouranos under Captain Altius.
Other: Rel carries two swords in tight-fitting wooden sheaths. He rarely unsheathes them and instead wields them completely sheathed as he has an aversion to killing. However, drastic enough situations could cause him to unsheathe them.

      Name: Doctor Walter Beowulf Saturday
      Sex: Male
      Age: Unknown
      Species: Cirifex
      Appearance:
Humanoid. He wears a one-eyed white mask and white gloves, along with a black suit and grey scarf. He carries a cane.
      Rank: N/A
      Division: N/A
      Bio:
The Cirifex of the planet Dun were once a proud and scientifically advanced race, though they never became spacefaring. The race had limited abilities over space itself, many of them could teleport or manipulate gravity. However, one man, Doctor Walter Beowulf Saturday, changed it all. He was ambitious, and wanted the natural powers of the race to advance beyond ever before. Hundreds of his scientists and engineers worked tirelessly on a machine a monstrosity of a device, that could access the very nature of the universe itself. Unbeknownst to him, when Walter entered the machine he sealed the doom of the Cirifex. For several moments, Doctor Saturday was elevated beyond mere mortality and he had a glimpse at the true nature of the universe, all of space and time was shown to him, every single possibility, every star, every life, of every universe. But Walter's mind did not have the capacity to gaze into the truth for long. He went utterly insane, his brain unable to handle the overload of information. With his newfound powers, he ripped apart the machine from the inside. The machine was already unstable, and as Walter destroyed it from within it exploded outwards with destructive force never before seen to the Cirifex. It was a global shockwave, every building collapsed, every once-grand city fell into ruins, and every living Cirifex was instantly killed by the blast. Except one. Saturday emerged from the machine a changed man. Though the truth had almost destroyed him, and had caused him to destroy everybody he knew, all he wanted was another glimpse at it.

Saturday is a walking contradiction. He is utterly insane and yet disturbingly rational. His intelligence is almost unmatched but he does lack some common sense. In terms of personality, he is often cold and aloof, yet at the same time sociable and talkative. He generally treats people with kindness, if a little condescending, and never judges at first sight, yet he treats human lives like they're his playthings.

      Name:
      Alexei "Sparky" Pavlov
      Sex: Male
      Age: 28
      Species: Maraku
Appearance: Alexei has tanned skin and dusty blond hair
      Rank: Ensign
      Division: Engineering
Bio: Alexei spent much of his life as a space pirate. Alexei used to be a roguish scamp who sailed the cosmic ocean without a care in the world. He didn't care about those whose lives he hurt, he didn't care about other people. That was until he did something he super regretted and finally realized the impact of his actions. This affected him deeply and he felt he needed to redeem himself for his actions in the past. He joined the Coalition corps to help people, and although he's been in the corps for a while he has chosen to not rise through the ranks, he'd rather keep a low profile.
Alexei is plagued by guilt and likes to be alone, but you'd never know it from his personality. Alexei is still very much roguish and charismatic and doesn't seem to care much for other people. He tries to keep a positive attitude, almost as a way of dealing with the guilt.

      Name: Dietrich Winters
      Sex: Male
      Age: 74
      Species: Peras
Appearance: Brown eyes, bald, well kept black goatee, physically well-trained.
      Rank: Lieutenant Commander
      Division: Security
Bio: Dietrich was born into a military family, his father serving in the Coalition before him as a Captain and his mother in the medical corps. Therefore he had been molded from a young age to follow in their footsteps and while it could be argued that it's a bad thing to do such a thing, but Dietrich didn't see himself as a person to have a dull job planetside so as soon as he could, after graduating he enlisted with the coalition security divisions and remains where he is until this day eventually getting assigned to the new flagship.

      Name: Ana Jereck
      Sex: Female
      Age: 21
      Species: Maraku
      Appearance: ~
      Rank: Lieutenant
      Division: Science
Bio: Ana was born on an alien planet, far from the dusty and windswept planes of her homeworld. Her mother died soon after she was born, leaving her to be raised by her father. At the age of five, Ana was taken by slavers. When she attempted to escape, her wings were broken, disallowing such schemes in the future. Ana was sixteen when the camp was raided, the slavers killed, and Ana met Brianne Lightwood, then a lieutenant herself. Brianne took Ana under her wing (har har), getting the girl the psychological help and physical therapy she needed in order to learn how to walk, run, and eventually, fly. She also pulled some strings in order to get the Marakan a job in the Coalition, and taught Ana how to defend herself.
One year later, Ana is as functional a person as she has ever been, and has joined Brianne for her first mission off the planet she made her home. She still has yet to try to use her wings to fly.
Other: Officially discharged as a successful outpatient of psychotherapy, no known issues remaining that cannot be handled by the patient in question.

      Name: Janus Themis
      Sex: Male
      Age: 35
      Species: Maraku
      Appearance: Janus
Bio: Born on Tyche, his family left their homeworld to escape debt collectors. The remote colony they settled on was attacked and, with his parents killed, he was left as the head of his family to protect his seven sisters. In order to survive they resorted to piracy and found themselves working under a man of great power. Janus is not violent by nature but has been forced to prove himself time and time again to protect his family and keep his sisters from the clutches of lustful men who would rather have him sell his siblings into slavery than allow them to work alongside him.
Other: His sisters are Isten(his twin), Sina, Salas, Erbe, Hamis, Sedis, and Sebe.

    1762, Havana

"We bet on the wrong army, Ash."

    "
You did. I only dressed up in this damn Spanish uniform because you wished to participate on the weaker side to tip the odds in their favor." Ash motioned to the docks, alight with fire and wreckage of the ships that had been at port. The Spanish navy had long been defeated and all that was left was for the British forces to mop up whatever remained of the resistance.

Aye. But it was a good fight, wasn't it?" Ash's lieutenant grinned as he knelt down to one of the many dead soldiers they had slain and began to remove the redcoat's uniform. "Was yer heart not in it, laddie? I've seen what you're capable of. A wee skirmish like this--"

    "
Just get changed. I want to slip out of this place unnoticed. I'll be glad to hear none of your dreadful Spanish ever again. You've butchered such a beautiful language."

    "
Whatever ya say Captain. Just don't pretend like this little run wasn't fun. Blood is a good color on the likes of us. It's the only one that fits."

A heavy knock on the door disturbed Ash from his thoughts. That should not have been possible. Entry was impossible from the outside but for anyone to be aware of it in the first place? Ash had a strong hunch who it could have been.

He went to dress, ignoring the heavy hand as the knocks grew louder, and took a moment to straighten out his bloodied shirt. Rhett had survived his patch job thanks to help from Morrigan and had been resting for some time downstairs. During the effort to save the young wolf's life he and the fairy had a great deal of time to sort their issues and find common ground. Painful common ground.

Like him, Morrigan too had lost a loved one only this was due to her family's interference in her affairs. Thints would have been very different if she had managed to carry her child through it all. Ash pulled his coat on, it too had been bloodied by Rhett, and motioned for the woman to stay put in his bedroom. There would never have been a satisfactory explanation for the kind of tryst they had undergone should she run down after him covered in nothing but sheets. She was safer where she was.

Heading downstairs, Ash gripped the handle tight and took a moment to turn, savoring the last moment he had before more hard choices had to be made. The heavy door creaked open and there stood the Seelie Knight Cin. The fairy shoved past Ash leaving the warlock to shut the door behind him.

"Where is she? If you were around at the time of her attack she should still draw breath."

"Alive but in no condition to travel." It took no genius to tell how irate the knight was. There was too much Ash to say to the man but Cin should have known better than to harass him after what had transpired. "Leave. My temper has grown short due to this unscheduled visit."

"No. Enough wasting time. She is promised to my brother and your games grow tiresome, warlock. The Fey do not take such oaths as lightly as you do. You cannot simply take what you please. While we are grateful you have saved her, she must return home now."

Ash nodded slowly muttering an "I see" just under his breath as he turned towards the stairway to where Morrigan had laid. Abruptly Ash spun around and smashed his fist directly into the side of the knight's face. Cin, being built much more heavily than the warlock, barely flinched. The knight smirked but did not retaliate...yet.

"Ah, a nephilim showing softness for a Downworlder. You kept your word to that worm. My only obligation to you was merely not to kill him." Cin was clearly unphased by Alarick's unsheathed weapons. A whelp baring its teeth was still a whelp. "Fair enough, Lightwood. I understand the need to hide the gritty underbelly of Shadowhunter tradition from the young ones present." Sheathing his own sword, Cin turned his back on the Shadowhunter. "I wish you luck with transporting him. Remember, warlocks always have a trick up their sleeve."

With that said, Cin waved halfheartedly at the nephilim as he left. He had heard enough to tell him where he needed to go next. Especially with what Masque had told him in his meaningless apology. There was only one other person
Morrigan had been with the night of the attack and, as her body had not been found, he had to assume she was with him. Ash.

Cin fleered as he watched Masque attempt to strange him only to collapse and cry before the group. He was content enough to allow the warlock to suffer until he spoke of a fairy he had seen in Central Park. The last place Morrigan had been seen. Instantly, the knight's blade was drawn carving a deep gash into the side of Masque's face. "Tell me what you of that fairy know lest I find out how many pieces I can cleave from your body before you cease breathing." Cin's eyes narrowed at the murderer. "No glamour exists that can hide weakness."

    Cin turned towards
Alarick. "Are you not sufficient enough to bear witness to a thorough interrogation from myself? I understand the Accords prevent you from torturing a Downworlder in certain ways. I am not bound to them the same way you are, Shadowhunter. Say the word and I will cut this trash until naught remains and there would be no blame to befall on you. It would certainly be more efficient than risking your neck transporting this one."

"Really..? Too bad. I thought they suited you..." Rhett chuckled at Brianne's comment only for him to cough up blood, with pain searing through his ribs. As he began to pass out from the loss of blood he could feel pressure being applied to his chest and a voice calling to him. Whether it was Brianne's or Morrigan's he could no longer tell. It was sleepy time for the wolf.

    ~

Ash heard Brianne's voice call to him. She was foolish to think she could actually fend off so many wolves even if the pack had been thinned. But perhaps she was not alone. The Lightwoods were not known for stupidity. Other nephilim must have been nearby. In either case, she was correct. From the wounds he had seen Rhett sustain there was very little time to spare. Ash let out a low growl as he backed away from the pack, careful not to allow any to flank him from the side as he retreated towards Rhett.

    "
Thank you." He spoke to Brianne. "I will be sure to make a more official show of my gratitude at another time but for now," Ash looked at Rhett. "Do not die. I will not hear the end of it from him if you did." He knelt by Rhett's side, glancing over at Morrigan. "Please, will you assist me in getting him out of here? Keeping him from dying might require more than my own hands. I...I need your help." Lifting the injured man, Ash took a deep breath. Seeing him in such a state was painful but there would be time to worry after he had done his job. Taking one final turn towards Brianne he silently wished her luck before taking off.
