Shadows. Alder's gaze shifted from Ria, who was now being protected by his horde, to the monsters that now surrounded them. Of course this honorless coward would have no honor. There was an air of familiarity of this situation but with no memory to connect it to he pushed the feeling aside. Tempted as he was to charge in like a barbarian to make his way towards the stranger who cowered behind the creatures he summoned, possibly due to the pathetic excuse for a keyblade he wielded, Alder stepped back in order to keep close to Reili. With a flick of his keyblade he cut down a shadow that jumped at him as he made his way towards the Prince. It was becoming apparent that this Cerdic fellow was unlikely to be taking anything seriously any time soon. He had foolishly charged in with the hopes of showing off only to awkwardly swing his blade around the moment danger reared its ugly head. As much as Alder found this person distasteful surely even he did not deserve to die. "There's safety in numbers!" Alder shouted at Cerdic trying to get the young man to rejoin the group. Once the shadows were taken care of then they could focus on the one who caused this. Alder swung his keyblade in a wide arc, striking another shadow while another leapt back to avoid the blow then using the momentum of his blade to follow up with a second overhand swing crushing the other under the teeth of the weapon. He spun the keyblade quickly back to return to a defensive posture as he glanced over at Relli to ensure that they were still alright. "In another situation, I'd recommend for you to stay behind me but since we're surrounded..." Alder smirked. "Far be it from me to order you to join in." Despite being overwhelmed in numbers there was one thing that remained in their favor. These shadows were pitifully weak and easily destroyed. Of course, it did not seem to be that way for all of them as the girl who had stood beside Relli found herself struggling and was knocked back towards Cerdic. "Great. Just...great." Alder muttered to himself. It seemed like it might have been pointless to hope that they could stick together in a tight formation. Another shadow made a swipe at him but he stepped to the side and kicked the creature out of sheer annoyance, punting several yards back into the horde though not destroying it in the puff of black smoke the others he had vanquished had vanished in. It would have made him laugh if he did not have to redirect his attention to another shadow that jumped at him. Alder thrust his keyblade at the shadow catching it in the air and destroying it before returning to keep at Relli's side. "Only a few hundred left...piece of cake." Alder's grip on his keyblade tightened when the ...woman(?)...man(?) called him by name. As far as he knew he had never met anyone strange like this. Aside from the Prince...but that was a different kind of strange that he had grown accustomed to. But the man, or whatever this person was, did speak the truth. Though his memories were fragmented he did remember the name of the device and what it did. Despite being glad that it had been destroyed Alder had no idea if he had always felt this way about this machine or if he was the one to destroy it. For all he knew Ria could have been lying and Alder was responsible for its existence...but he had never been much of a scientist so that was too unlikely to be the truth. Being called a dog, however, gave him no reason to place any faith in this "Ria" person. In fact, the anger was quickly beginning to rise and his blood was beginning to boil. He growled when Cerdic had the nerve to believe he would betray them when he had been the one to run like a coward and shove Alder out of his path just to ensure he was the first to escape the cave. "If you've got a problem with me then why don't I take your keyblade and shove it up your-" Chloe, had charged at the stranger and was immediately knocked back by darkness just before he could finish his threat. "You know what?" Alder raised his voice over the sound of the swirling vortex that trapped them and faced the one who was trying to pry information from him. "I do know what it did. It was a glorified juice extractor." He aimed his keyblade at Ria. Alder stepped closer towards the edge of the darkness waiting to see if an opening would appear in the darkness. There didn't. He knew better than to just run into something like this without thinking but that was the problem. The insults thrown his way by Cerdic followed by Relli's defense of him just bounced off as Alder's hand shook with rage while he focused on the object of his ire. Who was this stranger to trap them like animals and demand answers? Ria did not even seem to be open to an honorable duel. Fine. If that was how it was going to be done... "This dog is gonna bite!" Alder leapt back suddenly the tip of his keyblade aimed at Ria and unleashed a searing blast of fire the stranger's way.
Garrett folded his arms. "The weapons on this ship are fully operational. If we need to fire at a few asteroids we'll be able to clear a path but I would not recommend it as our primary strategy. It would divert too much power from our shields." He shifted in his seat as he scratched his chin. "If there are signs of life in that system, we will need to boost the sensitivity of our bio-scanners. I'll enlist Lieutenant Commander Cartwright to aid our engineers." Though it might have been fine for him to refer to his son as "my son" or just "Simon" Garrett always refused to drop the formalities in anything remotely official. The same went for Emma who was essentially like a daughter to him and when she spoke up he had to refrain from calling her by name as well. "Just go easy on the ship and the rest of the crew will worry about the rest." He directed towards her. "I would normally agree with our Captain that avoiding this belt is a good option but I believe that this is a necessary risk. If there's even the slightest chance that there are survivors left on that planet, we must investigate."

The cavern shook distracting him from the mingling of the others. Alder's eyes briefly shot up towards the darkness looming overhead before he glanced over at the young Prince. It's time to go. Alder sprinted ahead in front of the group, keyblade in hand as a light began to shine from it to further illuminate the path forward. "Move!" He shouted back at the others as he charged onward. If there was danger ahead, and he was having a feeling there would be, he would be ready. Besides, at least one other person in their group had to be a competent warrior...after all, the keyblade chose all of them for a reason.
Alder let out a quiet sigh slightly frustrated at the fact that the situation was not going anywhere anytime soon. A girl even cowered behind Relli and it was all he could do to keep himself from rolling his eyes at the girl. It seemed that everyone wanted to leave now and there was no point in arguing otherwise. Following suit after Relli introduced himself Alder spoke up as well. "The name's Alder." He stated plainly in an attempt to not be so rude. Another girl who introduced herself as...well she had not introduced herself yet but her III pin was a good enough identifier for now. In any case, she offered to be at their flank or head up to the front of the group. "You can take the flank if you wish." Alder extended his hand outwards summoning his keyblade. "I prefer knowing what's coming up ahead. I'll be joining the front if you," Alder directed this towards Kara the girl with the I pin, "don't mind." A part of him wished to stay at the back of the group to keep an eye on everyone but he had a feeling that it was unlikely any one of them would turn on the others before getting out of this place. Alder glanced over at Relli. "It would be safest staying at the center of the group." He spoke lowly so only Relli would hear. Given the circumstances, keeping at the young Prince's side all the time may not have been the wisest idea.
The sound of a familiar voice caught his attention making Alder turn towards the person who had called his name out. Could it be? Thanks to the light of flame that one of them had summoned it was easier to make out the face of the one who had spoke his name. Surprise was the first emotion that came. Of all the people that could have been dragged into this along with him it was the Prince. Thinking it unwise to bring up the title Alder rushed over to the young royal's side. Just like the others they wore a pin of their own. VIII. So certainly the numbers could not have been indicative of stature as his own number was lower. "It's good to see that you are well." Alder let out a sigh of relief. "I'm sorry I did not notice you sooner." He looked around at the others and by the sound of it they were the only ones who came knew each other. Though...he wasn't aware that Prince Metrunos even knew his name. He was just a palace guard and a relatively new one at that. Before Alder could speak once more the one bearing the II pin spoke up over "information" that they might have retained. "If you know something that can help, speak up." Alder directed towards Chrystopher turning towards him as his eyes narrowed at the younger male. A blonde girl suggested that they leave and with the darkness in the air it would have been a good idea, but considering how it was not hurting anyone yet he wanted to stay until he got some answers.

A voice belonging to a girl had woken him. By the time he stirred and sat up her attention had gone elsewhere. Pain seared through his head leaving him little to do to hold it back but to just press his hand to his forehead to wait until the feeling had ceased. His muscles were sore and his memory fragmented considering he had no idea how he had arrived at this dark place surrounded by strangers. Could it have been an attack? Perhaps. If it was, surely none of those around him were responsible since they seemed to be as confused, or more so, than he was. Alder summoned his keyblade and used the weapon to prop himself up, his muscles fighting against every movement he made. Why am I in pain? No. He knew the answer. One of the last memories he had was the fight he had caused when attempting to bring in two fellow guards that had insulted the Prince. It was a fight he was losing. I suppose that's what I get for going after two more experienced warriors... But this was no dungeon. If he had simply lost that was surely where he would be. Alder watched as several others in the room illuminated the area with keys of their own causing metallic fragments on the ground to reflect the light like tiny shining stars. In the room was a machine seemingly broken beyond repair. Alder's eyes narrowed on the device sensing some kind of darkness from the wrecked machine. "Good." He muttered to himself. The young man looked down finding that the armor he had, for the most part, been torn away leaving just his arm piece. He sighed and shook his head a little more than upset that all his savings had been thrown away for what now amounted to little more than a fashion accessory. He raised an eyebrow, catching the glint of something unusual he had known not to have put on himself. A small badge with a numeral engraved on it. VII He raised his head and looked around. The others in the room also had the same kind of pins on them though each with a different number. "If this is a joke...I'm not laughing." Seeing as there was no fight to be had he dismissed his keyblade and headed silently towards the machine in the center of the cave right in the direction of the canon-like device. True to first appearances, it really was inactive but Alder had to be sure. Such a dangerous-looking device surely could not be left behind to be used again. Alder glanced back at the others, unsure of how much they could be trusted. For all he knew, any one of them could be responsible for bringing them here and for whatever fate had befallen on his world. "Whatever this was, it's not working again anytime soon." He spoke up just loud enough for the strangers to hear.
"Thank you." Garrett responded, lifting his hand to check his palm for the time. "His cool robo arm" was what his son used to call it when Garrett had the prosthetic attached. At the time he hate how unnatural it had felt but over the years he grew fond of the arm and even found life easier with it considering how many advantages it had compared to his original arm. It was certainly stronger than the old one to say the least. After checking the time Garrett sighed upon realizing he was late on reviewing the progress reports of the recalibration of their weapons systems. There were still more training drills scheduled later for the rest of the security team. "Carry on." He spoke briefly towards Allec despite being unaware whether or not he was on duty at the time before heading back down on his way down the hallway. The man's comment about "just one" rib being broken being good news was not surprising to Simon considering the circumstances. He could only imagine what kind of punishment was common for slaves of an alien race. Simon looked down at the scanner as the results came in confirming that aside from his injuries, John was a healthy(though malnourished) human male. Simon let out a sigh of relief and headed over to the medical cabinet to go through their cache to find the appropriate medication for John's ribs. From what he read about Earth, back in those days the best way to treat a broken rib was essentially to make the patient wait it out while moving as little as possible. Thankfully these days that was no longer an issue. Stimulating bone regeneration was all that was necessary as long as the bones did not have to be set back in place(or were not puncturing anything). And then John mentioned Kathi's name. It was a strange thing for him to bring up and it was unlikely he became infatuated with her over the course of just meeting her on the way back to the ship. Simon would have thought questions like "what is this ship's purpose?" or "have you found any other humans?" or something else would come to mind but no, this man was interested in Kathi. Just before Simon could make a response Emma chimed in giving John some information about her. Simon waved as she left right after speaking feeling sorry in knowing that Emma must have felt out of place here with nothing to do. "Well, Kathi's been aboard this vessel for...well since I was born, actually. The ship she came from was called the Everlasting but other than that, there's not much I can tell you." The rest of the information he had regarding Kathi was strictly confidential considering her medical condition and Simon was not about to violate that for anyone. Out of all the crew, she was the one who he had seen the most, in the professional sense at least, given her tendency to break an arm now and then in her work. Given her condition there were certain medications he simply could not prescribe. "For 25 years being here, you could say she's been here all our lives though my father would disagree. Honestly, nobody really talks much about that other ship. If you want more information, I could pry for some more about the Everlasting." Doing it himself would have been a better alternative than asking Kathi in any case. It was still a very sore subject for her and there was no need to disturb her about it when there were other methods of looking into it.

One more thing to note is that the magitek DLC will be delayed for redesigns of the outfits. For obvious reasons(they look too much like Power Rangers). At least they'll be free when they come out. Source
Might as well try something new. I'm game.
Garrett crossed paths with Allec who seemed quick to ask about the deal that had been made. "It went as well as could be expected." He stated simply, not wishing to get into too deep of a detail. "Thankfully it ended on peaceful terms but dealing with slavers always leaves a bitter taste especially when all they're interested in is how much profit they can make off another's desperation." He said, referring to the lies they faced about the cost of purchasing John. The Commander folded his arms and shifted his weight from one foot to the other. He could have explained his feelings over validating the traders by partaking in their auction but such thoughts were irrelevant when they could do nothing about it. Garrett shook his head, knowing that he had better things to worry about than situations that were out of his control. Reports to read, reports to make, new inventory to take stock of...a new member of their crew to worry about. "You will be cooking for one more today. Our latest crewman just escaped a life of slavery so I will remind you to keep whatever you cook him easy on the stomach." "Just hold still for a moment." For every bruise or gash in John's skin Simon repaired two more seemed to pop up. Even when he finished "patching him up" on the surface there were sure to be a few broken bones that needed to be mended. As Simon treated John the man made a comment about his chains and the quality of their steel, a morbid phrase to say the least. Jael made light of the situation to where Simon would have called him out on it if the Admiral had not been right there. Perhaps this "John" would not mind so what was Simon's opinion matter if the actual former slave did not care? "They couldn't have been feeding you too well where you were kept. I'll prescribe some nutritional supplements for you. You'll find yourself having more energy in no time." Simon assured the man as he took the dermal regenerator, a device meant to accelerate the healing of surface-level injuries like the raw skin on John's wrists, and passed the instrument over him. Technically, for the treatments John had just about anyone else with medical training could have treated such maladies. Broken bones and internal bleeding however? Not so easy. Simon passed a medical scanner over John once his wrists had begun to show signs of healing on their own so that he could check for any signs that would indicate a need for surgery or if anything unusual popped up immediately. The scan finished but Simon discretely took an extra moment to modify the parameters and increase the sensitivity of the device to detect other abnormalities that could have been in John's body. "Hm." Simon raised an eyebrow as he stared at the device. "Good news is, you don't appear to be sick. Bad news, you have a broken rib. It doesn't seem to be in any danger of puncturing your lungs so I don't need to preform surgery. I'll just give you some medication for that but you'll need to keep from doing any strenuous activity for the week." Going over to place the scanner by the computer he had been using to run his project.

Enok took the letter from Qing's hand as it began to tremble, beginning to feel somewhat uncomfortable for being around such a physically weak woman as she appeared to be ready to fall over at any moment. As the turned the letter over examining the seal, careful not to break it, he placed it away in his coat pocket where it was sure to be safe. He was surprised when the woman had said she had heard the name Enok Wendell and a small grin showed on his face knowing that she had placed her trust in him. He would make sure that he would surpass her expectations. "Thank you for your faith." He said, bowing his head respectfully to the noble woman. The trader leaned back in his seat glancing over as the girl beside him seemed to be having some kind of fit over her embarrassment. Enok raised his eyebrow wondering if he had ever felt the same kind of doubt Maristela ever did. He shook his head. There always seemed to be bigger and badder problems around from him to worry about and with the threat of losing one's head if he didn't complete a job there just wasn't time to think about self-doubt. That kind of lifestyle did not leave much room for the amount of sleep his body always wanted to catch up on however. And eating on the go was not usually the best experience either. Perhaps this baker would make for an excellent cook. Maybe. Hopefully her cooking was better than anything served at this inn. "Relax. None of us are soldiers here. I assume ordinary people like us are just perfect for this kind of journey." He spoke in an attempt to reassure the girl.

As soon as the others were out of sight Kathi began with trying to explain her actions. Garrett nodded quietly to her explanations and took a short moment to compose his thoughts after taking into consideration what she had said. "You disobeyed an order, Ensign." Garrett said in a calm but stern voice. The truth was, while he was in no way upset with the woman he still had to remind her of her duty. "This is one of the reasons why we train. To control those instincts. If we allowed everyone to follow their instincts the ship would fall into anarchy." "I had not wished for our people to participate in any transactions of the slave trade. It was a matter of principle and the risk involved in a rescue operation would have been acceptable. Buying John may have been the easy way out but it was not the right one." It was rare for Garrett to have to explain his commands to those under him in the chain of command but considering the circumstances he wished to be a little more transparent to prevent more problems in the future. "You will get off with a slap on the wrist this time, Ensign but I advise you to exercise further restraint in the future. You are dismissed." With nothing further to add Garrett began to walk down the corridor. As much as it may have frustrated him at times even he knew he could not run the ship's crew as tight as what he would have preferred. This was less of a military vessel and more of a generation ship than anything and such conditions made for a more lax crew, a fact he was reminded of constantly by certain "problem" members of their ship. Even Emma and, to a lesser extent, his own son had been difficult in taking his lessons of discipline and they weren't the only ones who had such troubles. Perhaps he was getting old. No. It was everyone else who was wrong. Simon's eyes had still been fixed on the results of his project as he scrolled through the rest of the data that came in. He may have gone a little overboard with the testing but when one lives their whole life in space the knowledge that viruses and "weird" space diseases lurked around every corner was common knowledge to the medical community. ...Not that he was technically a part of any medical community outside of whatever his mentors had taught him and what information he could take from every alien medical database he could get his hands on. When Emma asked him a question it barely registered in his head and it took him several moments to process what she had just said. "Uh sorry." He backed away from the console ready to answer Emma in hopes she would be excited after hearing his explanation of what to expect when their new passenger arrived with Jael as his escort. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the little bow Emma did and smirked before realizing he also needed to introduce himself to the man. "Lieutenant Commander Simon Cartwright, ship's medical officer, at your service." Simon went over towards the man, almost sighing in relief that(aside from a missing arm) this would not be one of the more gruesome patients he would have to treat. On the surface everything looks fairly simple to treat though he would want to do several scans to ensure there was nothing else wrong. "Hey Jael? Mind helping our friend here to a bed?" Simon went over to the stores of medical supplies he had just finished reorganizing earlier to retrieve a needleless syringe. "A mild painkiller." Simon reassured John as he returned before pressing the injector to the man's arm. There was a faint "ssss" sound as the medication was pushed through the man's skin painlessly. "Don't worry. We'll take care of those cuts and bruises and broken bones soon enough."

"Well met, John." Though Garrett would have preferred to know the man's full name he settled for just having the first for now. He found that he had little to say to the man's explanation of how he ended up on this station and in the hands of slavers. The story was vague giving him little idea just how long ago John had been captured but if a distress call had been sent there might have been something tucked away in their sensor logs. As they approached the ship Garrett had noticed some kind of uncomfortable silence between John and Kathi but had no reason to suspect anything of it. They arrived at the ship and as soon as they did Jael and Kathi spoke of money. "This is Lieutenant Jael Carrillo, our xenolinguistic officer. He will escort you to the infirmary." He looked over at Jael motioning for him to take John. "Our guest here is named John. Treat him with the same courtesy as any other member of our crew. Kathi will stay back here." Garrett waited, eyeing Kathi briefly. The situation had calmed down and given how well it had all turned out the reprimand he had intended to give her had become not so harsh as he originally intended. That did not mean however that she was free to go with no word from him. Taking a moment to open up a comm channel to the Admiral, Garrett spoke once more. "Admiral, we're on Resilient. Our new guest will be in the infirmary shortly if you would wish to meet with him."

Enok shifted in place where he stood wondering if he really should move given how protective this guard seemed of the person who was to enter the room. The trader rolled his eyes and sauntered over by the table to have a seat by the young girl who he had not caught the name of yet. Leaning back in his seat he folded his arms keeping his eyes straight towards the door until it opened and an elderly woman stepped inside the room. He recognized her immediately but said nothing as she introduced herself and gave some vague details about their coming journey. He hoped there would be a better plan than just "get there in one piece". When Qing asked if they had any questions Enok looked around the room waiting to see if anyone had anything they wanted to say, hoping to let someone else go first. Better the attention go to them than him. A few seconds passed and, deciding that an awkward situation had to be avoided, he quickly came up with some of the more obvious questions that one would have to ask. "So this journey. What would we do when we get to our destination? Are we expected to carry some ancient artifact for you? Or are we merely there to pass along a message? Or to observe and bring back intelligence for your family?"

There's some neat little sidequests. No story involved(so far) but since Carbuncle shows up and is your companion throughout all of it, it's great. Altissia is way more traversable since there's warp points throughout the city. It's fun but I haven't gotten through most of it. There's some items you can get in the carnival that will stick around for the main game.
