Lightning Returns pretends to be an ARPG only to fail miserably at being one. You can inch your way across the battlefield to rarely get out of the area of effect of certain attacks but unless you're using up a valuable attack slot to specifically have a dodge, you're more than likely not getting out of range. Blocking and dodging shouldn't both be abilities that keep you from having more offensive options and yet LR chooses to do this without giving the player a reasonable alternative such as just moving out of the way of attacks consistently. And the story of Lightning Returns is just an awful mess that undoes a lot of character development in XIII-2 for "reasons". Ugh. XIII-2 was fun and probably the best mechanically. It had some good story moments and Caius was certainly interesting but...the story was already getting pretty bad. As for XIII? It was okay. It had its moments. Lightning became likable at the end(which didn't last long as XIII-2 and LR then ruined that). Snow was a breath of fresh air to me in a time where I felt overwhelmed by annoying broody characters who moped about(and had a sick theme song). XIII played fine but it wasn't exactly the most fun game ever. Its story was just kind of...meh overall but wasn't too awful.
"We can do it right this time, then!" Alder shouted in return as he continued to struggle with all his strength against the darkness that held him. "Mora he's not going to help you!" Even as he continued to fight he could not feel the restraints loosening. Perhaps he wasn't trying hard enough. And then Mora said something that made him freeze and pause for a long moment. His eyes followed the line that went from Mora's gaze over to who she was focused on when she said the name Aevum as if this Aevum person was right there. But there wasn't anyone there. No one except Chrono. "What the...Chrono!? Did you fail to remember your own name or what!? I should have known Chrono was too stupid a name to be your real name!" Alder shouted at him as his struggles continued once more. "Do you even remember what the Extractor was supposed to be used for!? Whatever happened, I told you not to use it the way it was and you did it anyway!"

"Kara, wait-" If only he had reacted sooner. His mind had been too busy working on answers and as his suspicions began to build it was already too late. "I should have known sooner." Alder growled as he looked down at the darkness that held him in place. "Why do you think Ria would help you!? He's just using you. You're never getting your people to wake up." The darkness already had a hold over his keyblade preventing him from magicking his way out of the situation but he still had his strength to fight with and he intended to use every ounce of it to fight back against the trap. This wouldn't stop him. Not once he shifted into maximum honordrive. "Dammit Mora! This is exactly what Ria wants! If we go down there won't be anyone left to wake your people. Ria's lacking the light necessary to wake them. Maybe you haven't seen his keyblade but we have! Ria's broken and can't help you."

I don't like pineapple by itself so there's no reason for me to put something I don't like on pizza. That's why I don't like it.
As Mora spoke Alder could not help but feel that there was more she could have said. Her excuse for not going with the others, though plausible, seemed a pretty thin. Before he could question her any further his attention became fixed on what he had uncovered. People shrouded in darkness, alive but asleep though not in any position that a normal sleeping state would have allowed given that one person was actually standing. "What...caused this though?" Could it have been the Extractor? Alder went over towards the one who was standing and attempted to grab and shake the person in an effort to wake them. It was a poor idea but it was either that or point the keyblade at someone hoping for the weapon to just "know" what must be done and that could have easily been met with the same results as doing this the old fashioned way.

Shadows swarmed around the group and began jumping and clawing at the keyblade wielders. Some of their attacks missed entirely but four were unable to dodge in time. Chrono was hit for 2 Damage (18/20HP) Take was hit for 4 Damage (16/20HP) Illiana was hit for 4 Damage (16/20HP) Torrin was hit for 3 Damage (22/155HP) The storm raged on as the ground continued to shake. An updraft in the distance began to tear at the ground, ripping a tree from the park and sucking it into the black vortex in the sky. If one looked up they would see flashes of light coming from Masters Choma and Atmos as they discharged spells against in their aerial battle. Torrin had stepped back to get a better view of the field of battle only to find himself getting clawed at by a measly shadow...a shadow that, in his weakened state, he was too slow to stop from striking him. He took the shadow down with his keyblade and clutched winced upon seeing the new claw marks on his arm. Heartless were starting to spread out and get out of the park and into the town. "Not today you don't." He spoke through gritted teeth as he pulled the hand clutching the wound on his side away to aim his palm at a group of fleeing heartless. In an instant an orange ball of fire shot forth and exploded, destroying several shadows. Torrin staggered forth and dug his keyblade into the ground to keep his balance. "I don't think I can do that again..." HP: 22/155 AP: 44/62 Enemies Defeated: 7 (7 Shadows. 1 Soldier.) Enemies Remaining: 46 (36 Shadows. 10 Soldiers.)

Nice use of the font I gave you. It looks good anywhere. Voted for Type-0 since...well I'm the resident Type-0 fanboy expert.

Shocked by the girl's display of compassion the hooded male froze when she offered her hand out towards him as he had been certain he had done enough to scare her and her companion off. It was only then, with her hand being held out, did he see the light in her eyes. She could not have been allied with the one he had sought. He allowed his keyblade to disappear and just as he was about to accept her offer of help her companion came to her side and grabbed Tinarah's wrist in an attempt to keep the girl away from him. The ground shook once more. Knowing that now was not the time to be picky over choosing allies he reached up to grip his hood. "I thought you were working for him. This...Choma person, he is your master I assume. He can't be the same person plunging these worlds in darkness." He pulled his hood off to reveal his face. "I'm sorry about earlier. We seem to be on the same side for the time being." His eyes looked off into the distance where a beacon was shining--the epicenter of the darkness. "The name's Torrin." Once more, his keyblade was back in hand. "I can still move so don't wait up for me." Atmos placed her hand on Glyde's shoulder for a moment and gave him a firm look in the eye. "Calm yourself. I would not have kept you in the castle had you not had the power to wield the keyblade. Let your heart be your guiding key and everything will fall into place. You have the strength to fight but even if you are not strong enough to stand against the darkness on your own, you will have allies beside you to ease that burden." Atmos raised her head to gaze at the beacon in the distance knowing Choma had sent it to alert everyone where to go. Atmos motioned for Glyde to follow after her as she summoned her keyblade and ran forward. "Come! The others need us!" θ Shadows began to sprout from the ground. Soldiers begin crawling from the fissures in the ground. The park, ground torn from the quakes but still just stable enough to stand on, was the central point of the spreading darkness. In the night sky a black vortex formed as clouds began to swirl around the tear in the sky. Choma watched as Heartless began to sprout from the ground like dark flowers but even as they began to surround him his eyes shifted their focus on the sky above. A dark rift was forming far above the town and it wouldn't be long until even stronger Heartless arrived. Heartless that he knew the young students were not prepared to handle. "Strength in numbers." He muttered under his breath. The others, including an unfamiliar face a young man who Tinarah and Chrono had brought along, arrived not long after himself, Mika, and Take. The questions he wished to asked would have to wait. As everyone arrived, safe and sound, Choma noticed one was missing...Aria. A pit formed in the depths of his heart but he could not afford to let pain and distract him now. Not when there were still so many lives at stake. "Atmos! We must get that rift sealed before more powerful Heartless come through!" The man shouted, charging ahead. "Keep the Heartless from spreading! We must save this world from falling!" Choma called out to the students as he and Atmos, who now joined his side, leapt into the sky. The two masters' keyblade changed form turning into gliders to propel them upwards into the sky to battle whatever dark forces resided above. Still clutching his wound with his free hand, Torrin stood behind Tinarah and Chrono. The young man's eyes gazed upward towards the sky as two keyblade masters flew off in some attempt to stop the world from being overtaken but as he looked around the state of Eventide Town he knew it would only be a matter of time before it fell. "Not exactly how I pictured going down. Here. Let me show you how it's done." He raised his keyblade ready to strike and in one swing cut down a Soldier Heartless and on a second cut he managed to catch another Soldier with the end of his blade. He aimed his keyblade at a group of Shadows in the distance and a burst of ice came from his keyblade, freezing and shattering the Heartless instantly. Then the pain came, causing him to hunch over and breathe heavily as if he had just ran a marathon. The ache of his muscles made him realize his body was not up for such heavy exertion. "Damn...On second thought...I'll hang back and keep the stragglers from getting out of the park and into the town." Torrin stepped back slowly, backing out of the fight to leave it up to the others. HP: 25/155 AP: 42/62 Enemies Defeated: 8 (6 Shadows, 2 Soldiers.) Enemies Remaining: 70 (55 Shadows. 15 Soldiers.) Shadow Heartless require 2 AP each to defeat. Soldier Heartless require 4 AP each to defeat. The OOC Thread has been updated with a combat guide.

Alder resummoned his keyblade as soon as they reached the end of the ladder not wishing to come unprepared for any dangerous surprises that were likely to come. A village built into a mountain was hardly a place he would have thought to look for but as far as safe places go this seemed like a solid choice. "Mora, why was it that you weren't taken here as well?" Alder moved ahead of Mora and looked around the area. Everything seemed to be in one piece so at the very least they could probably be sure it was not attacked by Heartless but... "Where is everyone? If they made it here did they leave? Or are they somewhere farther inside?" Or was there something worse going on? Out of a sense of curiosity Alder approached the entrance to one of the houses and opened the door to check if anyone...or anything was inside.

"Yes, Mora. Please lead the way. If there's any Heartless along the way we'll keep you safe. We owe you that much, at least." Alder held up his keyblade as a reminder. "Thank you. It's okay if you don't remember more. As long as we help the people of this town that would be enough." Especially if they had been the ones to start all of this in the first place. Alder shook off the sense of guilt he had as it would do no good to mope about. If their actions, or failure, had caused these people harm then they would fix the situation. And that was that.

Aria has died. Or whatever the equivalent of it is in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Farewell. yeah maka left the rp
"Better hurry. The Heartless won't be far behind." He called out after them. The manor began to collapse as Chrono and Tinarah fled leaving the hooded male behind. "Damn. Maybe it wasn't here to begin with." He looked up as the chandelier above him swayed while the ground beneath him rumbled. "This world, too, will fall..." He spoke grimly and stepped out of the entrance. He watched as the two keyblade wielders grew more distant from him though not before the girl had given him a name to be wary of. Choma. "Choma." He repeated out loud. Turning his head to watch the beacon of light he stepped forward heading in its direction albeit slowly due to his injury. I The ground beneath Aria cracked open and the fissure underneath her began to spew darkness, blinding her before she could move any further. The quakes in Eventide began to intensify and more fissures formed, the ground shifting to separate Aria from Illiana and the safety of almost-solid ground. The floor beneath Aria began to collapse and in an instant a sinkhole formed leaving Aria to fall into the crater and into a pit of never-ending darkness. Aria was gone.

"Hm." Still unsure of what to believe, Alder turned towards the girl who they saved at this village. She would have been there when Kara led the townspeople as she claimed. Perhaps she had some background information on this that Kara was not giving or just did not know. Though, given their current luck with memories Alder doubted he could get much information. "That girl over there is Kara," Alder motioned towards Kara while speaking to the girl, "said she brought some of your people to a safe place. Does that ring any bells? Or the name Aevum? Anything you can think of would be helpful." He paused for a moment. "You should keep close to us. All this darkness is likely to bring more Heartless...uh...I...don't think I should refer to you as just 'girl'. Got a name?"

II The ground shook in a violent tremor and the ground began to crack. Tendrils of darkness began to rise from the ground around Illiana and Aria. The moon and stars were now obscured from sight leaving the only sources of light on the streets the lamps on every corner and the lighting coming out of the windows of houses in the area. The cracks in the ground began to spread outwards as more black smoke began to rise. Soon the cracks had begun to spread through every part of Eventide. "I came back as soon as I could." Choma's voice came from behind Take and Mika. "As soon as I felt the darkness. We need to regroup and stand to defend this world from becoming just another empty spot in the night sky." Choma's keyblade was already out as he knew the Heartless would be coming soon. "Mika, Takehiko, keep your keyblades out. Expect a battle soon. We are not going to abandon this world–these people to fall to the dark." "Follow my lead, the alleyway will have to wait. We need to get to the source of this darkness." Choma charged ahead, following where his senses led him sidestepping whenever he came across a new fissure in the ground with black tendrils spewing out. He had seen a world fall before but even that case had not been as extreme as this. He wondered if anything could be done to stop it. Whereas it took hours the first time he had seen it happen this time it looked so much worse. Choma made it to the park where, directly overhead, black clouds circled about. The only way to get everyone's attention and get them here would be if he sent out a beacon. So, raising his keyblade to point to the sky... Choma sent out a ray of light from his keyblade that shot straight to the sky signalling for all the other keyblade wielders to get to his location at the park.

Alder stopped walking for a moment and stared at Chrono for a long moment in disbelief with how little he remembered. "You can't seriously remember just that. Come on, you've got to have something else hiding in that head of yours!" Alder picked up his pace to keep up with the others. "Nothing about who you were before the accident? You've gotta have something more than that." He continued, growing a little frustrated with how little he had to work with. It seemed like Kara had little else to offer and Alder didn't buy into it. Both of them having nothing else to say was unlikely. "There's plenty of reasons to keep secrets from one another. Remembering something that paints yourself in poor light would be reason enough to hide it." Alder stated plainly towards Kara as he continued to follow after her. While he was certain she would be more trustworthy than someone like Cerdic that didn't mean he had to be soft. Especially not with two pieces of the puzzle taken out.

First word in the thread weren't "come back"? Boo. Oh but congrats on sheltering an alien in your body for 10 weeks. Just please don't name it something stupid like "Heaven" (a cousin of mine seriously named her kid that) or "Jayden". Anyway. Yay baby. Love it all you can before it becomes a teenager who hates you.
