Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad staggered on, he was taken by surprise as Thea hugged him and sang a song for him, he was touched by it all, but not so much that he'd breakdown again. He gave her a weak smile, it was all he could muster at the moment. Then Vance and Thea said they'd give all the help they could. "This is just for one time...but thank you nonetheless" Conrad said, misunderstanding Vance's intentions. Then Damian mixed into the conversation with some completely pointless information. "I took my rest and you damn well know it..." He hadn't strained himself too much after the treatment, generally sticking to his bed and going for the odd walk to stretch the legs. It would have been boring did he not have the company he did. Thinking of it all only seemed to make it worse and he could barely contain his tears. He needed to be alone for a bit that way his current state wouldn't bother the others with his problems, he remained silent and walked on. He knew that despite Thea's hug or Vance's kind words he was being a burden at that moment and that wasn't something he wanted, as soon as they were on the ship he'd find himself a quiet spot to get some shut eye or atleast keep to himself.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II After having spent the entire time since the tournament drinking heavily with Edric only pausing to select his magics which because of all the alcohol didn't go off entirely without a hitch. After it in his clouded state he signed up for a mission that Vance had already gone for, so despite Florica's warnings Conrad still decided to tag along with the other nobleman it turned out the mission would turn into a small party of nobles or former nobility. He went back for some more drinking and he looked like a mess. When the time to depart was there Zeph asked if there were any questions he didn't have any. Not that his mind was clear enough to think of anything at the moment anyways. Normally he would have yelled about the morality of going to a city of gold and stealling anything that is made out of gold and not bolted down. Vance came over and what had possesed him to get so wasted after the tournament. Putting a hand on his shoulder, he looked at the man. "My decorum? Down in the bloody abyss..... you're probably pleased to hear that you just lost an enemy.... but I am not celebrating, there's no bloody reason for it.... I lost too many things dear to me in the last few weeks... today was the final straw....you try and keep up your bloody decorum when everything around you starts to collapse... it's all going to come down, just like all that has already... She left... she just ****ing left and it hurts so ****ing much.... more so than that wind magic.... more so than the hole left by my sister... wait I wasn't supposed to talk about that, just don't tell Vance alright?..... It's just all falling apart piece by bloody piece..... I just cannot care about my goddamned decorum right now.... I am feeling the worst I have felt lin a long bloody time and all I want to do is drown it all out..." Conrad said his speech slurring at times as he stumbled along "...I should go after her.... she can't be that far away, I can still catch up...... yes...yes I should do that..." He muttered, more to himself, not paying attention to Vance walking beside him, as if he had never been there and just walked on to where ever they were going.

He was taught as his father before him how to perform the rituals of old, how to cure ailments through the use of herbs and salves and the ways of the Andaran fighters, for a ruler should help support his people as much as his people support him. He showed an ability to quickly learn the new skills and absorb the knowledge of the lore. After Varraki took his final test to succeed his father, he went through every village of the Andaran Highlands to help and hear his people. He ruled peacefully for several years, steering clear of the conflict between the Hammers and the Shards. Eventually an envoy from the Hammers came to ask the Andaran tribes to join their side in the conflict. When the Andaran Prince refused saying he wanted no part in it, the situation quickly deteriorated. The envoy and his escort drew their weapons and a firefight ensued in which several unarmed bystanders were killed. After it all was sorted, the wounded stabilised and taken care of, the Prince took his weapons and set out to fulfill what the code demanded. The blood of people allied to those who acted, though the Code was clear, only combatants could be targeted. The Prince set out on the path stalking an army of the Hammers waiting for an opportune time to strike. The armies lead him further away from the Andaran Highlands to the construct known as Sky Tower. When the price is paid he intended to return home. Other: Enjoys a game of dice and cups of tea
Conrad against his better judgement, then again he's drunk as all hell, is going on the City of Ember
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad listened to what Edric had to say and he did have a point, not that he was foolish enough to blindly rush ahead without any information. There was an oracle here? Well that would definitely help, but he'd have to formulate his question properly to get the information he needed. The letter what had been in it... he sifted through his thoughts to find the answers. He was certain it hadn't been a letter from his sister. He held his head between his hands as he thought. He realised it wasn't entirely impossible for the letter to have been written by her. "The letter... it was signed with a single letter.... -A while it could have been from my sister... I doubt it... I can't remember much of it.... atleast not right now... maybe tomorrow when I'm thinking more clearly... I remember it generally being the standard if you want to see back your dear daughter you bring us this this and this, the odd thing though were the requests...they didn't exactly ask for money...instead they wanted lacrimas and a rather specific combination of gemstones, I could send my father a request to send me a copy of the letter so we got all the details, it will take a while before it's here though." He spoke, his voice lacking any emotion, something within him had snapped, the last few days had just been too much for him. He felt a song come to him and he softly sang a few lines. "And tomorrow's still unknown, lies condemned and betrayed Now everything is said. See my eyes are full of tears and a cruel price we've paid, but still I can't claim that I'm innocent. Lost..." He had a part in all of it. He couldn't protect his sister. He signed his own right to marry away, though at the moment he couldn't give a damn about it, it didn't matter anyways well not until his father decided he needed to forge a new alliance. He hated it all. He kept him being nobility quiet for just that reason, but he couldn't escape it. Spending those few days with Tessa was a nice change for him, it felt like a sanctuary, a place of safety... There was no turning back, he was banished from that sanctuary, the darkness in him was filling him with more pain, but still it was gone, no way to turn back for eternity. He missed both of them and could barely contain his tears. He grabbed his drink only to find it empty he ordered another one and when it arrived took a large swig from it. He had told the man next to him how he felt, caught in between the lines, failed to protect his sister and the one person he let in close went away.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II The little girl seemed disturbed by something, it was probably himself in this state. She thanked him for his time and his two cents and then went away after the standard response etiquette demanded. He really didn't care for the formalities, it didn't matter here at all. Did it ever even matter? It was all just a big puppet-show, playing nice with each other while under the table the daggers are being held. He looked around the room watching Vance talking to Nessa, of course he was, it didn't surprise him in the least. Though something seemed off about him. He watched him for a few moments before turning back to Edric. "Now where were we.... ah yes getting pissed." Conrad said grabbing his drink and taking a swig, feeling it burn in his throat. His thoughts seemed to get a bit clouded and he couldn't feel his heart racing any longer. He would expect this was going to hurt very badly in the morning and he wasn't just talking about the hangover. "What do you think? Could she still be out there somewhere... alive?" He asked the man, he had been a guard so he might have run into similar situations before, but Conrad already knew that the chances of it being a disaster were very high.
Raymond Mercator, Bumblebee, Oxenfurt, Redania, Northern Kingdoms The girl turned out to be a lot more reasonable than anticipated and he wasn't to be yelled at tonight. "Alright then, if you say so." Raymond replied, family... He had none left or atleast not that he knew he supposed one of his brothers could still live somewhere but that was far away. "No, no, not at all, it's fine, really." He said when she asked if they were disturbing him. He had been far enough removed from it to not let it bother him. He just stared blankly ahead while Tessa was preparing his drink. As she put it down on the table he snapped out of it. She introduced herself as Tessa and said that if he needed anything he should only ask. "I'm Raymond, pleased to make your acquaintance." He said returning the smile, he thought for a moment considering asking if she by any chance knew something to bring in some coin for the winter, he didn't know anyone around here and he figured that it wouldn't hurt. "Uhm... Tessa, I do need something, you see I'm not really from around here, only arrived her recently. I am however getting a bit low on cash. I just wanted to ask if you know where I could find some work to see me through the winter or just direct me to someone who knows, it'd be greatly appreciated." He knew he could do a lot of things, not all of them the way a true craftsman could, but he could still work. There was of course the issue with his leg that was limiting him a bit, but even if it meant sweeping the streets themselves or cleaing out the sewers, he didn't care an aweful lot he needed some work, otherwise he just might have run back to his home town to get killed by the Nilfgaardians, it would be a lot less painful than starving to death. He then realised he hadn't touched his drink yet and took a sip from the sweet, cherry flavoured beer. It was even better than he remembered it being and a small smile appeared on his face.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II The things the young girl said could come from only two people here or atleast he was aware of only two people that could do so. There was Vance on one end and really he was a twat but not such a twat he'd tell the young girl such nonsense, sure there were always a few rotten apples that spoil the bunch but the person who said everyone was evil and out for their money was clearly delusional and there was only one person he knew to be delusional enough for that. Lady Nessa the paragon of light and justice oh wait he got her confuse with someone else in his drunkness. "This person is delusional while there are people out there who wish to rob us blind, but it's hardly everyone. The person who told you this is seeing danger where there is none, while there is always a risk of trusting the wrong person, not everyone is the same. As for this Guild, we're all guildmates here, the only form of hierarchy that exists, that I am aware of is Guildmaster and S-classes and the remainder, all equals. Send the person who told you this bullcrap my regards and if they have a problem with it to come and find me." Conrad said to the young girl, what must the young girl even be thinking? This looked like a party and he looked like a mess. He hoped that was all she wanted from him so he could get back to getting pissed.
Raymond Mercator, Bumblebee, Oxenfurt, Redania The argument that had been going on only seemed to escalate. Someone else entered and by the looks of it it all took a turn for the worse. He merely observed the scene as he waited for the girl to come over and ask him what he wanted. She was hunched over a little and biting her lip and while he was far from an expert on expressions something just felt off about it all. When she asked him what he wanted to drink he asked for a Rivian Kriek, he tried to look her in the eyes. "Hey... uhm, is everything okay there? It seemed like a rather heated argument from where I was sitting." He asked the girl. He would probably get an annoyed 'Stay out of someone else's business' but he figured that while he was here he might as well make himself usefull, he'd keep an eye on it all and if things spiraled out of control he'd step in. He wouldn't be that bystander who'd just sit and watch.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II The amount of alcohol the young noble had taken in in such a short while that he was a bit out of it, in combination with all the emotions rushing through him. He hadn't noticed the young Thea walk up to them, mainly just because he didn't have eyes in the back of his head and there was too much noise going on to properly hear footsteps. The anger still coursing through his veins and taken by surprise by the young girl standing behind both him and Edric, he quickly turned his head before seeing who it was or recornising their voice he spoke up nearly shouting. "Yes? What is it? Do I really have to be disturbed every five bloody minutes?" in a voice full of annoyance, when he saw who it was he immediatly regretted it. The girl couldn't really take any emotional outburst towards her and he knew it. Well it was too late now anyways. He looked to Edric "Give me a minute." He said thinking it wouldn't take very long to sort this out at all. He looked at the young girl, a bit more considerate of her feelings and putting up a gentler tone he asked her: "Yes, Thea? What is it?"The girl had aleady seemed a bit troubled but he didn'trust his senses at the moment but if there was already something that bugged her what had just transpired really wouldn't help. "You haven't really picked a good moment to come talk to me Thea but I'm sure we can keep it brief." He added, he was certain even the young girl could smell the alcohol in his breath, but he really didn't care.
Veceslav Furst, Somewhere on the road to Novigrad Silver sword in hand, the Crow stood ready as the Cockatrice dove towards him. He reacted fast andblasted the beast with Aard and sidestepped as it came crashing down. The creature became even more enraged because of it screeching in anger at the veteran witcher. It lunged forward, as the witcher spun to the side simultaneously slashing the beast with his blade, leaving a shallow cut in the beasts neck. It hit the witcher with his wings and while the witcher tried to dodge the attack, but failed it atleast wasn't as bad as it would have been with the monster's beak. He shifted his body and used the added force from the wings to roll backwards, sliding to a halt as the monster leaped at him. The witcher lunged forward aiming to roll underneath the beast's wings and pass unharmed. He knew he was acting way to defensive and ought to take the offensive lest he might get himself into trouble with a beast he had slain many times. The beast started to circle and the witcher followed suit, when he saw an opening he lunged forward performing quick attacks on the abomination, blood spilling from the wounds. He had to end it right now, it had already taken up too much time, precious time he needed to catch up to and hopefully stop his lost children, before it was too late. He thought of a way to end this all quickly and figured it out. At exactly the right time he stepped forward blasted the beast with Aard, moving it's dangerous beak and talons out of the way and grabbed his sword with both hands as he Struck down toward's it's neck, the blow connected leaving a deep cut in it's neck. It let out one final screech before it finally collapsed and died. Veceslav cleaned the blood of his sword and sheated it again, taking a knife to gather anything useful and quickly removed from the body and then proceeded to set it on fire with an Igni sign. The witcher quickly found his horse and made haste towards Novigrad
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad listened to what Edric had said, taking another drink himself as well. He caught Vance going for a drink as well and silently prayed to the Mother he wouldn't notice him in this state or he'd get it and things would probably escalate way out of hand before anyone could intervene. He looked to Edric who had warned him against murdering those that had wronged him. "I wouldn't end a life if I didn't think it was possible for them to change for the better, but what they did is unforgivable...the entire reason I am here is so that I may grow stronger to either exact revenge upon the bastards or free my dear sister... I'm sorry I guess I should start at the begining... before I came here, I lived on the family estate together with my parents, I was the second born and therefore had no reason to worry about taking over the family company, I spent time with my younger siblings, just looking after them whenever needed... I enjoyed it really, had grown rather fond of my younger siblings. Even when I had been around less for them after it turned out I was a mage at the selection for the Officer Corps... My father wasn't very positive about mages, he had mentioned it before the discoverybut atleast didn't treat me any different. Anyways one afternoon my younger sister, Abigail... she asked me to go with her for a walk...I returned alone.... we were intercepted by a trio of mages... they demanded I handed Abi over, I refused and tried to fight for her safety... despite my efforts to defend her, they overpowered me, I blacked out and when I regained consiousness she was gone... and a letter was all that was left... I left the letter at my father's office, told him what happened, he wasn't pleased in the least... I still feel guilty for failing her and hell I'm not even sure if she's still alive..." He closed up again fighting the tears, they were all old wounds never properly healed and he himself was ripping them open, once more hoping it wouldn't leave it's scars. He had talked about it with Tessa after she asked him about it, saying he had mumbled her name in his sleep. He faltered in keeping the tears under control "She's......she's probably....dead by now...all because of me..." Conrad said, taking a large swig of his drink wiping away the tears and clenching his fists. Angry at himself for his failure, that day and failure for trying to keep himself together his heart was beating fast and his blood was boiling, he slammed his fist into the table again. "I'll make them pay... I swore it that day and I will do so again......If they so much as harmed her, I shall take something precious from them in return...." He could keep himself from shouting those words so all would hear them.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad felt the S-class' hand on his shoulder as he took another sip of the drink. Conrad listened attentively to what the man had to say. His story saddened him, but it also made the gears in his head turn. In comparison his own problems were only trivial... He then heard Evanora's voice calling for further celebration regarding the young love. He snorted "Funny.... just bloody funny..." He said absent-mindedly, he looked away. He felt so stupid. "I am sorry Edric..." Conrad was searching for words to say but he couldn't find any. He thought about what had been eating away at him that drove him this far, but he knew it paled in comparison to what Edric had seen, he also knew it was impossible to compare properly people had different limits and he felt like an idiot for snapping so soon, but it all had just become too much for him. His sister was as good as dead by now, he was fairly certain of it, it had been several weeks since he left home to come here, he was uncertain of what his father might do, but if he hadn't paid the ransom then she would be dead by now. All because he had failed to protect her. To Edric it may have looked that Conrad was quietly thinking about it all, having calmed down, but tears welled up again, this time for a different reason, he cried for his sister. "The revenge..... was it... was it worth it?" He asked, he had sworn revenge that day and was still intent on having it. He looked at Edric the intent of having revenge in his eyes. Revenge for something only the girl that had left knew about, to exact revenge for what they had done to him but more importantly to Abigail. Aside from the issue with his sister and Tessa leaving the consequences of his last mission hauned him as well for any other person it may not have mattered anyways, but to nobility it had been important. He glanced at lady Nessa and went on with drinking.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad called for another drink despite Edric's warnings. "How can you be so bloody certain I wouldn't have been happy if I went along with her? It's not like I got an aweful lot of friends here anyways. Vance is a dick which causes everyone else to go for the all nobility is evil card. I end up caught in the bloody middle seeing I'm no more than some joke of a noblemen that Vance pushes away from his oh so holy noble position and everyone else just sees it black and white....and here I am standing all alone in the middle" He took a swig of his drink, the man went on about how drinking was for fun and not to forget or make one feel better. "So you got it all figured out then? Tell me, what should I do? Wear a mask and pretend everything is alright? I've done that and it's really not helping..." He raised his fist again intent on slamming it on the table again to vent some of the anger he felt only stopping his hand mere milimeters from the table's surface. "It just seems so hopeless, everything I do, everything I aspire to do... With every passing day it seems more futile... the only bloody reason I didn't outright leave with her was the very same I even came here... but even that reason can't stand the test of rationality, it's all in vain. I have no direction anymore, I'm just so bloody lost and all I can think of doing right now is drowning out all the thoughts in my head... I never intended for it to last...I just wanted a moment of peace... the...she...." He spoke, his emotions spiraling out of control resulting in another breakdown, cutting his own words off. It was then Florica came over asking him to join them. He just looked at her and spoke in an as controled voice as he could muster. "I'm sorry.... F-florica....but not.. now..." He took another sip from his drink feeling it burn in his throat. Edric seemed to know what he was on about, maybe he did need clarity... Well there wasn't any going back now Edric probably knew that as well and seeing there wasn't any going back he might as well go on. Promising himself he would try and figure it all out starting tomorrow. "You seem to know a lot about this....I deeply apologise if overstepping my boundries, but how did you learn so much about this?"
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II He never saw Edric approach and only noticed the man when he sat down next to him. Conrad took a sip and felt the liqour burn his throat. He looked at Edric through reddened eyes, tears still silently flowing over his cheeks. The S-class asked him what was bugging him and there was a lot of it. This was merely the drop that made the bucket spill. A very large drop that was. "There's a lot bothering me...." He replied in a shaky voice, he took another sip. "Not looking good's one way of putting it... She felt like this wasn't the right place for her... There was this look of grim determination in her eyes.... nothing I said or did would have made any difference..." He angrily slammed his fist into the table. "Damn it, I should have gone with her..." he couldn't hold back the tears or keep himself together it was all falling apart around him. He finished his drink in a rather big swig and felt the alcohol burn his throat. The aching throat distracting him from his racing heartbeat and the lump in his throat.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II He could feel her soft hands wipe away his tears as she gently patted him on the back. She said she was sure they would see each other again, but he wasn't so sure. "...Maybe in another life..." He mumbled as tears streamed down his face, he felt like a hand was holding his throat choking out any and all words he wanted to say. But he didn't have to say them, she understood without him saying it. She wished him all the luck in the world, but what was luck if you couldn't connect with people and you always slipped through the cracks of the established groups, he felt so damned alone. He caught the hesitation in her first step, but knew it wouldn't last. She walked away, he wanted to run after her. His mind was screaming at him and he was torn between running after her, shouting at her to hold up so they could leave together. There was hardly anything binding him here anyways. Vance only saw him as a means to an end. He hadn't spoken with Aoki in a while and now he really didn't feel like it anyways. He let the tears flow freely as he looked up he saw her standing in the distance. She too was crying, but smiling, he smiled back and waved. He turned around too, going back to that bar, intent on heavy drinking, he didn't care anymore what anyone thought. He sat down on a barstool and asked for the strongest drink they had and just started drinking...
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II She had looked up, knowing he had been watching. He could see her half-smile and was glad she was smiling, it was so much better than how she had been acting a few days ago after she had accidentally hurt him. When she came over however he knew something was wrong... She started off with saying she couldn't keep the promise she made him. And how he was a very nice person and he had helped her a lot. He already felt his gut twist and his throat close down a little bit. He knew what was coming next. And despite having known her for only such a short time it hurt. He couldn't keep the emotion out of his voice when he spoke. "I-I understand... I guess there's nothing I could say to you that would convince you to stay..." He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly. "But before you go...there's something I'd want to ask... I know it sounds stupid, but would you dance with me? It has been a while since I last did and well it would atleast ease the pain of everything that happened recently if you did..." She remained silent for a moment probably contemplating the bizare nature of his request but she agreed to it. He took her by the hand and started humming a song he remembered from the last ball he had been. He didn't care if anyone saw him, not in the least, as he led Tessa through the paces of the dance. He felt a range of emotions course through him as they danced, but when he looked herin her green eyes he couldn't help but smile, a saddened smile, but a smile nonetheless. When the dance was done he looked at her tears forming in the corners of his eyes. "I'll miss you, Tessa, but I wish you the very best out there and please if there is something I could do for you.. Let me know, I wish I could go with you I really do, but I can't... there are so many things I still have to do... and I truly am sorry that I couldn't come with you... Visit me some time or send a letter...." Conrad said as he once more wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug. He had not only lost the tournament today, but he was also losing a friend...
Veceslav Furst, en route to Novigrad He had been pushing his horse to it's limits, it was a purebred Zerrikanian cavalry horse, he had gotten his hands on it by doing a contract for a nobleman and he invoked the Law of Surprise this time however he didn't get a child or anything more usual out of it and he was glad. Hawk had served him well, they had made many a journey and harrowing escape together. He was however roused from his train of thought by the distant sound of screeching. He knew what it was and cursed, he really couldn't use this right now. He rode on, but the screeching only got louder, the monster would soon be upon him. He halted at the road side and sent Hawk into the woods at the side, not too far away, but still far enough to keep him out of harms way and waited, soon he heard the flapping of the wings and he drew his silver sword, drinking a tawny owl and swallow potion he readied himself for the coming fight with an abomination. Over the trees flew the Cockatrice that had been following him, probably more coincidence than anything but there was no going back now. Raymond Mercator, Oxenfurt He had wandered through the city of Oxenfurt for quite a while now, looking left and right at market stalls to see what wares merchants were selling. Nothing he could afford or really needed in the first place so he wandered on and time went by reasonably fast. He planned on heading back home again when he saw a sign near the door of a building. "The Bumblebee" it read showing an example of one as well. He figured a drink or two couldn't hurt, maybe they had something from back home but he didn't think they would. An Aldersbergen Bitter would be lovely. He decided to go in, maybe he could get to know some folks around here as well which would still be better than to be alone. He walked in bearing witness to a rather odd unexplainable scene. All he knew was that it wasn't his problem. He decided to go and sit at the other end of the bar and waited for the bar maid to come over. It was rather obvious he was a man who may have seen a little bit too much and the leg sure wasn't helping. He looked at the assortment of beers they had and he had been right in assuming there wasn't an Aldersbergen Bitter, there was however Rivian Kriek and while he wasn't from Rivia that was some rather good beer.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II He had given it his all, but when Alissa didn't go down after his hit, he knew it was all over, he tried to dodge the final attack in a last hope, but it was all futile. It had been decreed that the son of Eisenstein would not win and it would be so. The barrier slammed into him and he was blasted backwards and hit the ground hard having the air forced out of his lungs. He lay on the ground for a few moments and gathered himself up. He staggered over to Alisa and gave her a hand, congratulating her with her win and wished her luck in the remainder of the tournament. He hadn't been strong enough, it had been the third time in a short time he had found himself in this position, second one in under a week. He had trained so hard, but it hadn't been enough. He had failed once more. Vance, who had won probably wasn't gonna keep this one quiet. He wanted to get away from here. He tried to slip away without any of the medics noticing him and he had nearly succeeded but then Ander decided it was necessary to heal him. This bloke made no sense, there were people worse off than him, but he had been prioritised? What kind of bloody medic was this guy? He just stalked off to find a quiet place to sit and think. As he wandered away he noticed Tessa sitting in a quiet spot and he was left standing there wondering if he should join her or not.
Conrad Heinrich Adelbrecht Carsten von Eisenstein II Conrad once mor hit his opponent and while she clearly looked worse for wear, she was still standing and the hit had done significantly less damage than before. That had been that blasted barrier, he just knew it, atleast his opponent was all ou in the open once more. He didn't have much time to get away, he tried dodging the now ringed by fire Alisa, but he wasn't fast enough as the flames crashed into him.
