Well, that was sad and disappointing.

I guess I'll have to entertain myself with something else during the week of Feb 10-16 (my week off from school). Or the whole month of February for that matter.

@DA: I understand your sorrow, but importing a NA title wouldn't be all that bad to solve your problem since it's like you said--in the same language as ours. There are many in North America who can't speak or understand Japanese, which is the main reason why fewer people import JP titles. The language barrier stops a large majority of people from importing (and already a lot of people do import even if they know next to nothing about the language). Importing the NA version of Brawl on the other hand--if you live in Europe--is practically the solution if you ask me, since you're not going to be short-changed in any way other than paying a little more for shipping (how ironic). Of course this would mean you would have to address the issue that your Wii would have to be capable of playing NTSC, but since before the Wii, this has been the case, so it's not like there hasn't been ample time to prepare. Being the gamer I am, I probably would've bought and imported a NA model Wii if I lived in Europe, since I'm pretty sure any game I would've liked would've seen NA shores first before Europe. This is the same reason why I wish I imported a JP PS3 instead of a NA one. I could've played my PS2 imports without having a hitch and still play NA PS3 titles because of the new region free business.

Anyway, I will probably just wait it out, guys, and amuse myself with Halo 3 on XBL until then.
    Wait, what was that, Resetti?

Yeah, that's a pretty difficult situation. I have no idea what to say about it. It's unfortunate.

A large part of the game is luck, but there is some degree of skill in it when you're playing against someone else. One being the skill to manipulatte/force your opponent to "do your dirty work" or be the guinea pig for spots you're uncertain of, another being the skill to maximize your odds of missing a mine (or in the MSN version, maximize your chances of hitting a mine).

I won't mind joining if it doesn't conflict with Smash League scheduling, however before I say yes I'll need more details on both how it's going to be run and how the rules will work.

I'm not entirely satisfied with the d/c issue you stated. It's still possible for someone to disconnect if they're losing, so to disqualify them immediately for a single instance like that isn't entirely justified. No one's played Brawl online yet (from the masses anyway), but I'm hoping you can at least tell what's a legitimate d/c and what's a forced d/c. But if possible, isqualification should occur only for repeated d/cs. That way, even if the player had no intention of disconnecting, it's unfair for players to compete against someone who has an unreliable connection and they should be removed. The person disconnecting should be able to understand this. Essentially, disqualifying someone for disconnecting only one time (even if it so happened to occur @100%+ damage on the last stock) is unfair. Everyone should be allowed the slap of the wrist at least once, which pretty much says "Fix your connection, or you *will* be removed." Lag and disconnects are common place with online gaming; while I do believe in being firm with rules regarding how they're handled, some leeway should be considered as well. It's hard to gauge how to handle them since none of us have first-hand experience with playing Brawl online, eventually more reasonable rules regarding these happenings will reveal themselves.

While I agree with having no items on, items are never turned off for the reason of them being 'cheap'. There is skill required in using items (the degree to which they affect the game is relative). For example, being able to accurately throw an item and landing the hit on an enemy who is far off the map is a skill in itself. The reason items are usually turned off in tournaments is because it's important to remove any element of 'randomness' that might jeopardize and interfere with a tournament match. Items are removed to give as much control of the match to the players in it as possible, not because they're 'cheap' and because they 'require no skill'. Both those statements are incorrect. We are also not entirely sure how 'random' items are. Melee had them removed because of explosive crates (that no one could detect) and the occasional bomb-omb and what not. Since it was impossible to turn off explosive crates, all items were consequently removed. In Brawl, it's suggested that not only can we tell which crates are explosive, but we also have the option to turn them off. If this is the case, some items may be able to be left on in tourneys if they can be justified as being neutral and fair to both players. Conclusively, if you turn off items, your reason would simply be preference, nothing more.

As for determining the type of match, like you already suggested, I'm pretty sure that adjusting the match settings to make them stock-based matches without time is possible in With Friends mode. The dojo suggests that With Anyone is restricted to 3 minute timed matches with items on and can't be changed. So for sure, you're probably going to have to create a tourney while in With Friends mode. Also, it's up to you if you want to conform to other tourney rules usually found in Melee, but they're usually both stock and timed. (3-5 stock, 5-8minutes). Playing a stock match with a timer can often force players to use a slightly different strategy than playing a stock match without. But it's really up to you.

@Saki: Many people have already started trying to set up tournaments for Brawl. We're all aware Brawl hasn't hit shelves yet, but like many others, AznRicyBoy is simply trying to gauge how many are interested. All rulesets for Brawl tournaments at this point, regardless of who's hosting it, probably are aware that none of the rules are set in stone. No one is sure at this point if Smash Balls will be left in or out in tourneys since we haven't fully had a chance to completely understand how they work or weigh out the pros/cons. It's one of the inquiries that lots of people are still wondering about. Only time will tell if Smash Balls will be left on or off. I imagine the first few tourneys in months to come will leave them either on or off, with the reasoning being simply for preference. It might be standardized in the future, but not anytime soon.

I'd suggest putting more details together, so you can cover every corner when the issue arises. There are many things to consider when creating a tourney, and since Brawl is a new game, there are lots of untreaded ground that you'll have to address (or try to prepare for since Brawl isn't out yet). Since you said the tourney's simply for fun (not so sure about bragging rights since we'll all be pretty new at the game and pretty inexperienced), I wouldn't mind joining if it doesn't conflict with my Smash League schedule, just I'd like to see more refine in the regulations.

OOC: The RP is still ongoing, despite me wanting it done over the holidays. I'm sure the holidays was busy for everyone and I completely didn't take that into account. I'm just winging this RP and see how far it goes.

“Fine. I'll release you. Don't try to run though, I'll just use magick again. And if you manage to get away with my watch again... Well, I'm quite stubborn. I will get it back at some point, if I have to drag my friends into it,” she said.

"You mean there are more people like you?" Korwyn grumbled indelicately as he felt the ice disintegrate around his feet. That was better, he thought. But having one displeasure gone only emphasized the more important that had yet to go away; the persistent noble woman before him who--in Korwyn's opinion--had an unhealthy obsession with the watch he took. If he had known she cared so much about it, he would've probably went for something more conventional, although that just wasn't his style.

Korwyn felt another breeze hover suspiciously around his person, to which he then turned toward his unwelcome company with a dubious look.

"Just a precaution," she stated with a cloying smile. "Let's go get my watch."

This woman is too cautious, Korwyn thought to himself. I bet she gets robbed often, he added before turning to walk toward his room. "This way."

There was only one room present on the floor, so any misdirection would prove impossible. Korwyn cursed silently at the irony. He liked having only one room on the floor due to its privacy, but if any of his victims discovered his whereabouts (which he hoped would never find), his possibilities to escape were greatly numbered.

Korwyn spared another moment to glance furtively at the woman behind him. Talking his way out of his predicament might've been possible for some, but this woman was far too defensive and distrusting of him--more than he deserved! Well, almost, since he did have the intention of running away with the watch at the first opportunity, but she was obviously preparing herself for any such attempt. And with magick on her side--which she was clearly not afraid to use--Korwyn was quite at the disadvantage.

The young thief quietly turned his key in the lock before slowly pushing it open. After taking a quick glance at his room, he stopped in his tracks at the door's entrance, embarrassment once again flooding his thoughts; he had forgotten to clean up. Rather, he didn't plan on cleaning since he wasn't expecting company--least of all a noblewoman. It wasn't that he needed to fix the place in order to remember where the watch was hidden, nor did he have the desire to woo said noblewoman who stood a few paces behind him with a charming, well-kept quarter; but he did believe in being presentable, especially when such presentations were closely linked to his self-image. Now, it wasn't Korwyn being insecure about what others would think about his messy living space as it was about him festering about personal obligations he held for himself.

"Umm... would it be impossible for me to ask that you wait outside?" Korwyn dulled his eyes, knowing almost exactly what her response would be. "... My room's a little messy."

She ignored me... Korwyn shot her a peculiar stare, looking offended. Not only that, nothing but insults seemed to fly out of her mouth along with the additional threat of reporting him. He scoffed for a moment. Yeah, right. He could just as easily report her for unsanctioned use of magick; wouldn't that be something?

No, that wouldn't work, he concluded. Even if they were to investigate the matter further, it would eventually be proven that her actions were prompt by Korwyn's theft of her watch. At most, she'd probably just get a fine, and considering how incredibly spoiled these nobles were, she might not even get that, Korwyn growled to himself. This situation was most definitely not in his favour. And his feet were cold, and that wasn't very pleasant either.

"So what do you say. Return the watch and we will count things as even." She sighed as if exhausted.

Korwyn looked off to the side, half embarrasssed, half frustrated. "... I don't have it on me. It's in my loft at the end of the hall," he pouted like a child with a blown ego. "But it's in a place you'll never find it so you're gonna need me to fetch it for you!" For goodness sakes, his feet were freezing.

Korwyn's calm demeanor soon saw a change after another pair of footsteps were heard in the distance; Korwyn was definitely not expecting anyone to be where near he was at that particular time. With that in mind, it became obvious who it was that was coming for him. The damn girl got lucky, he cursed silently to himself.

After getting a small glance of the young woman as he saw her turn the corner of the stairway, Korwyn picked up his pace with the intention of escaping through the window of his loft--at least, that was the plan until his instincts began to warn him of something foreboding coming his way. His experiences as a thief rendered him unable to clearly comprehend what it was until it was too late.

A small force suddenly attacked his footing as Korwyn felt himself losing balance during his sprint, winning him a perplexed stare of confusion before nimbly readjusting his center to catch his fall. That was wind just now... wasn't it, Korwyn thought before hastily attempting to continue his getaway.

His take-off was prematurely interrupted as a cold chill suddenly ran across the floor, preventing any movement whatsoever in any of Korwyn's feet as he soon found them to be encased completely in ice. Korwyn furrowed his brows.

"Lady! What is wrong with you!" a defeated Korwyn barked. "Using magick during peace times is completely against the law!"
