it all comes down to you're paying more for less issues now. current paperbacks are about $15, which is not a huge difference from ten years ago, but you're usually getting less and $5 can make all the difference in the same way $1 can be $1 too much for singles. and hardbacks are like $10 extra. but i usually don't buy trades anyway.

i wish i liked circa survive more than i do. but all their stuff kind of sounds the same to me and they really really bum me out. and their music is usually so depressing. i like blue sky noise and appendage but that's mostly nostalgia.

pokemon hype train picking up steam again.
its weird how pokemon love goes dormant for a while when there's no news and after a game's been out for a couple months. but then it just comes back full force next year. love it.
speaking of, did anyone else have the same experience with oras that i did? the hype for that game was unreal. and then it came out. hype maintained for a couple weeks. but then it suddenly died off and the game ended up being a sort of non-thing. plus the community was not as abuzz as it was with xy. all the rumors and speculation for delta stuff was and is sweet but i think gf is waiting too long to reveal or hint at what's next for pokemon that the excitement wore off. but come september the internet will light on fire i'm sure.
something is happening. those guys are scheming something. with what we've heard the idea behind gen 7 will be and how they've said they wanted to change things up a little with releases and such, i don't think there's any calling what can happen next. i want to say that oras seems a little more integral to the current status quo of pokemon than any previous remakes have been, but who can say. both xy and oras don't feel like complete games. they very much seem to be leading into something else, particularly xy, or at least seem to be missing something that was deliberately removed. and i'm not saying that it will necessarily be a z or a new emerald, but i want to say there may be some overlap in whatever comes next. i don't know. it's exciting.

the whole event formula needs to be rethought or just done away with. same with crossovers.

that's (part of) why i stopped buying current. prices just over reasonable and sleazy marketing gimmicks and hype-manufacturing events have securely placed me in backissues only. i'll go back and get the singles from current series later but $4+ after tax off the shelf for a single issue is too much. the 2.99ers are ok but on the line. trades would be the way to go but buying a trade from the big two is as expensive as singles now. in 2003 trades were about $10 for roughly 7 issues. that's like a joke now.
