And don't worry so much about that. The Cove will be forever different, even if there are old rivalries. After all, there are new allies and new rivals to meet too.
As such, all battles will be different too because of how unpredictable the cove is. lol

Well, you may say that about Mecha, but I'll be honest with you.
I used to share your view. I didn't like mecha anime at all really excluding maybe one or two. My opinion has changed since, but even then, just saying that they're boring and the anime they're from are boring is a bit unfair on people who actually like it.
You're naturally entitled to your opinion, don't get me wrong, but as an example...
There are a lot of Naruto haters out there (not me... I love the show personally). If they just started insulting an anime series or type you loved (in this case Naruto) it'd likely irritate you and others a bit (or maybe you wouldn't care, but even then consideration for other people would still be expected in their case). The same naturally goes for mecha.
Now as for me. I like what I like. If someone else doesn't like it, then fair enough. If they want to say it's boring or whatever, then fair enough. But not everyone else is like that, so I'm just asking for a bit of consideration here before people start saying stuff about other series that people have a preference to.
As you said though, they are our characters that we've chosen and I don't know about everyone else, but I aim to only use characters that I really admire or love. I respect that you realise you can't make such dictations though (and don't worry... no one is out for your life XD).
As I said above, naturally everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I respect your stance on mecha too. Again... just have a bit of respect for others at the same time please.

The other reason I'm going into this a bit more than I would normally is because the plot of the RP is going to be having a lot of Mecha involvement. Now this doesn't mean that people without mecha are screwed etc. There are plenty of ways around it and characters that can still take on mecha without one of their own, but as DT said; a fair few of his villains are very mecha orientated which naturally ties the genre into the story.
I guess what I'm saying is... try to at least be a bit more open to/open minded about mecha as this plot indeed will be seeing a fair bit of them.

If it's the Mew specifically from the first movie. Then yes. You can be him.
You just can't reserve the Mew species as a whole.
So for example... if Mew appeared in Mystery Dungeon, I could say I want to be the Mew from that game even if you have the first movie Mew.

But yeah. You get the idea.
