There's a theory that Lelouch stole the Code from his father when he killed him. Geass from CC, the Code (technically)from VV, making him the first person to achieve CODE GEASS. With the Code, he could live forever, hence, people think he's the wagon driver. It actually sounds plausible to me, but I feel like if he'd stolen the Code from his father, they'd have at least made a small hint to it when it actually happened, but as far as I know, none was given.
