Faith, do we have it anymore? Do we have it in our country? Our relegion? Our Family? Our Friends? Ourselves? To me faith is declining at a good pace. Nowadays we don't believ in relegion, atheists are growing in quantity as each year passes, ambitous people betray thier country, feuds break families and friends apart and even we give up on ourselves when things are tough. D o you have a true and unconditionable faith in anything? Or do you have no more faith?
A question i have been pondering is about the mind, I pretty much think about how the mind works 27% of the time, give or take. I hear arguments stating that the mind is a able to remember limitless pieces of information and store it so that it will never leave our memory, and as it increase it's mental power it can effectively learn the mysterious that plague humanity, describe in words that everyone no matter who they are can comprhend it. While the other is that the brain power our species uses at the moment is the most we will ever us as human beings. Though anything that involves from humans could be able to do everything suggested as above. Question: Do you believe we will be able to one day comprehend, existance and non-existance? the physical and metaphysical? Time and space? Or will we never be able to surpass our brain power as it is today?
People dedicated to their country, usually called patriots or patriotic, have been some of the most decorated and accomplished achievers in life. When you ask a patriot 'What do you fight for?' they say 'My Country' Usually, I believe, they consist of soldiers and fellow fighters. My Question: Why do we fight for our country? Because we know nothing else? We are scared of change? Should we not fight for our country, but for the benefit of it'speople? I understand where patriots come from serving their countries, for the justice and goodness it has but it still doesn't always seem right. I don't understand how people who fight for their country and are dedicated to die for it, allow it to become corrupt. I belive Politics has nowhere in Patriotism, politcians are not the soldiers fighting for their country, they are in their offices getting loads of money for discussing what should or shouldn't happen. Hardly any decisions are made, and when they go wrong people suffer for it. when soldiers are sent away to war too fight for thier country, they believe it to be noble and right, but all soldiers are tools for politicians, the pawns in a Chess game, with which the heroic soldiers are on the front lines taking most of the action, while the King and Queen (politicians) sit back and in hardy in ahy danger becuase they have everyone else defending them. THe only reason to start a war is to protect your own people from danger or to start war on another country that hurts its people. Yet we go to war for profit and gain, and poor Patriots suffer for politcians who never seem to care. I say, a minimum requirment for anyone to be a politician would be to enroll in the army, navy, etc for a year, too teach them about the real life situation that soldiers have to go through and how much they care for their, people, and how much pain soldiers have to deal with.
'All is fair in love and war' - Francis Edwards Part 1: Memories of worse days It could've only been a year, maybe a lil less. May not know when but what happened....ahhh, I won't forget it...nor us... It was the first time I was visiting the rural village of Kashmir, named for its beautiful and top quality clothes, made hand-in-hand by the dedicated local workers. I was looking for a job here, news had been heard by travellers that bandits were seen heading towards, about 30 in all. These locals of Kashmir were no fighters, only workers. The only local law enforcement was a war veteran, said to be a good warrior, but the towns folk knew that the veteran couldn't take on all the bandits. That’s why I was hired. I'm a mercenary. Getting paid for any dirty job they don't want to do. And this was one of them. When I got too the village, the atmosphere, in the rainy weather of May, was familiar. I've been on enough battlefields to know what fear, pain and death tastes like, and the air reeked of it. While strolling through the vacant streets, a funeral of a young child came into view. Though as hard as it was to believe for me, that the whole village wasn't respecting of the life of someone so young and pure, the funeral was only attended by two people. The Elder of the village was chanting and praying to the child and beside the child's small coffin, was a women, dressed in full silver armour, many cuts and scratches lay on it's surface and even one upon her cheek, a scar left by a blade. The rain had beaten down any sort of compassion on anyone’s face, the women in armour may have been crying, but the rain made anything possible, hitting hard on my skin, it reminded me of my reason for being here, and walked gradually towards the funeral. The village Elder looked up at me, gesturing with his hands to pray. I followed his request and prayed. Strange for one such as me a unholy person so to say. A man doesn't live his life with no regrets; a man regrets his wrongs and tries to make them better. I am not that man. I regret nothing, I regret no people I have hurt or killed, sons I have killed, brother's I have killed, the fathers i have killed, they mean nothing. I got my job done that is all that matters, the payment is what’s been keeping me alive for years, but the funny thing is, inside am I really alive...? The cracking sound of thunder woke me from my thoughts. The Lady in Armour had gone, already filled the hole of the child’s coffin. The Elder was still there staring at me through his wrinkled eyes; maybe he was trying to see me, with what little vision he had left. I let my arms drop to my side, turned and bowed to him, “Sir, I am here too solv--” I stopped. His open handed was placed in front of my face. “It is raining, and cold,” He explained in a slow and gentle voice, “Follow me to my home” With that he walked with his cane in hand slowly but surely to one of the rural buildings in town. “Chop, chop, you don’t want to catch your death out here now.” I could only but agree with him, and follow behind, my head hanging down, gazing towards the frail man in his ancient robe that seemed to exceed his frame, my long hair whipping my cheeks each step I took. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I'm rusty with writing stories and this just came to mind so I thought I might aswell try. ANy comments on what is good or bad is great.
I'm not sure how many people know this song or John lennon but both have really shaped the world in which we live in. John lennon was basically a world renown musical artist in the 60s/70s/ One of his songs was called 'Imagine' and has a message that most consider to be of universal peace and is, in a way, the national anthem of peace activists around the world. Here is the video and song on Youtube: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0 And here are the lyrics: Imagine Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today... I... Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace... Yo-o-o-u, You may say Im a dreamer But Im not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will live as one Imagine no possesions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world... Yo-o-o-u, You may say Im a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will live as one The question I want to ask is, do you believe this song is just that, a song, or do you believe it to be a message that we should all acknowledge and fight for?
I just thought that, we are all aren't our own person, we are all the result of something. I mean, that from our childhood we are shaped by our parents dscisions, going where they want to go, not seeing what they want us to believe, bringing us up with(out) relegion. Most of these traits stay with many people for the rest of our lives, I heard around 86% of people stick with the same relegion our parentstaught us. We are restricted down a pat of education, where we MUST visit school, we MUST leanr, and we MUST do tests to judge our intelligence. We can't go anyother way, we must learn the subjects the school chooses for us, we must improve grades. And after all that we are left to choose what we want to do at our teenage years, whether we want to start a job, continue into education, leanr under an independent teacher such as carpentry or other specialized subjects. After doing what everyone else wants us to do, we have to choose our own future, when for years we have been told by others what we can do, after so many years of influence from almost everything, and most of that influence was to make us listen to other people, but never ourselves. The real question is: Are any of us our own person?
Now, i'm looking at my TV right now, looking at what would be considered 'heroes' of today. I really think that saying any of these people are heroes is bull. Sport stars, actors, bands, singers, models, reality TV show contestants...the list could go on. I don't get how any of these people are anywhere near good enough heroes to the younger generations of the world. These people have millions thanks to being shown on TV. Thats it. Some of them are drug addicts, alcoholics, dropouts or atisocial, and these are the people we want to be? The questions. Are these famous people worthy of being called heroes? Do we have any heroes anymore? Who would be your Hero? Why? (I understand if anyone believes their parents to be heroes, and you can put them if you want)
Ok, you have the basic Classical four elements of most cultures which are usually: Earth Wind Fire Water Now I can understand why cultures would say these are the most basic elements of life since WAter, you drink, fire to warm you, Earth, the soil to grow crops and Air, in which you breath. But then I hear of a Fifth element, a type of, Non-existent element, like an attempt too explain what 'Heaven' is made of, of what that emptiness is that we fill in each other. This element is something I can't quite get my head round. The question I ask is THe fifth element, was it the first way to explain what Space was? The areas in the Sky in which we didn't know centuries agp? Or was it a way too explain a state of Enlightenment? Of Pureness? Or are all the Classical elements wrong? This is more of a direct question than an actual discussion.
They can spen hundrends and millions of money to send a lone probe about the size of a house into space where it will encounter many problems and most probably lworkfor a few decades. While on earth we have countries and millions of people who are dieing of disease and starving of sustinance, begging for a scrap of the food we eat everyday. We can send a man into space, but we can not save a poor man's life? The question I pose is: Should we keep looking up to the stars dreaming of one day travelling the endless space or do we finally look around the ground and see the suffering of many, where we could make a countries life better? Should we fund the space programme or fund countries in poverty?
Ok, this question has probablt been ask a thousand times over but I just want to know. Do we have more than one lifetime? Like reincarnation when we come back to life in another do we keep memories from our past life? The reason I ask this is that (ok this could be my imagination but) I have memories that I know I haven't done in this body before, I have memories of walking, across a sea of white snow, struggling to get through, but I have never been anyway near to that type of climate. I know it is unlikely we will ever find an absolute truthful answer to knowing what happens after death, it makes for a great piece of discussion material. And try to be serious, though that my adding of the piece about me being in a cold area might seem stupid and like it's a joke, it's not. If anyone else has a memory they believe to be 100% of a past life than share it, please.
Is pain the only thing I can feel anymore? No love, no hate, my emotions locked behind a door, They wish, and plead to be let out and soar, You try to cover it up with cocoa, I don't want to be hurt so, All you do is make me feel low, With that belt, you slap on my skin, My little body can't take the beating of my sin, Of being born by your lover Lyn, Why has Mother, your lover gone? You never loved me Daddy, but Mother cared for me on and on, Beaten and broken by that ex-con? Oh Daddy, you must hate me for being born, No more! From now on I wil not be torn, I will meet Mother, when I jump from my window and fall on the lawn -------- Wow...This was a strange one I just made on the spot, I don't know where I got this from, but it really just seemed like i knew what it felt like... EDIT: Added the fourth part, for aynone that notices or cares
Now, i've just truned 16 this month and now I can do alot more legal things before I was 15, this is true. But I just think that even though I have past the 16th time the earth has completed its cycle round the sun I am no different than I was before, I still think the ssametalk tthe same, my intelligence hasn't just suddenly increased, nor have I gained more muscles. Society says that at 16 I can now do more things, but when I was 15 I was no differnet than today, and yet I am aloowed more. Does that make any sense? Even by adults I am now treated as more of an 'equal' because of my 'number' but nothing's changed. Ss should people be thought of as a kid or immature because of a number? Numbers should never matter, only the person should, you should only judge them by their actions and not their number. I know a guy thats 26 and he has the mind of a child, not from a mental illness, but because he never wanted to grow up, he is imature. But society says he is mature because he is 26. to me that is wrong and should not be accepted.
The Art Of War by Sun Tzu, is basically a collection of ideas on warfare, considered to be one of the greatest pieces of work on war. So, anyone read it? I just aobut finished reading it a second time to make some more sense of it. Does anyone consider the ideas in it an effective way for warfare? AND, for anyone who HASN'T read the book, does anyone believe that a collection of warfare ideas writtencenturies ago would be effective for modern day warfare?
Since the first caveman's grunts, or the creation of Latin, words have developed into an essential skill for every human to master. Now, i've heard that people see words as something trivial, a restricted way of expressing your thoughts, feelings or beliefs, and are basicly useless compared to action. While others see them as earth changing things. From creating empires, to topling kingdoms, words have always been strong, without them we would not have a history on which to look back on, no way of creating peace treaties and warfare actions. Without them we would be useless. What do you believe?
Ok, again, I'm asking more of a question but i'm only asking anyone that knows, than at the end i'm starting a discussion. Multiple Personalities, as far as I know about it's like more than one brain living in a body. But I would like to know more about it without the cr@p science talk. What are the symptons? Is it dangerous to the person or anyone the person knows? Is there anyway scientifically, (god help me) like drugs or medication to stop the symptons? Ok the question for anyone who wants to add their own personal opinion. Socially, people with disabilities in general are either sympathised over or shunned, and sometimes accepted like any other normal person. Mental disorders in particular can halt social interaction for a number of reasons. Is having a disorder a negative thing?
What I mean is, for one good you have an evil, White to Black, the Yin & the Yang for the sun you have the moon, for land you have air, water and fire, male and female, Something and nothing and so on. Does everything have an opposite? Or do we have a number of different things that each have their own individuality and aren't connected to an opposite?
Depending on what country you live in, I want to know peoples opinion on whther their country should increase, decrease or keep the age of legal marriage. Just say which country your from and its legal marrying age. Use Wikipedia or search the website if you don't know it! XD
Ok, maybe a bad title but i'll explain. I really hope I don't offend, hur or do anything wrong to anyone by asking this. Who would you consider parents? The people that biologically created you and birthed you? Or the people/person who looked after you, and saw you grow? I mean to say that many people in the modern day have families that don't stay together, you have one parent families or even people that give away their child to others. I'm just asking which people you would call parents. And again I am not trying to do anything wrong here. and this question is aimed at everyone, not just people who were adopted or who grew up with one of their parents. i would consider that the people that took care of you are the real parents, a family is not only made of blood, blood is an extra, people who care and take care of you are family (more specifically parents) too me.
Ok, maybe not a discussion, but still something worth asking. But talk, agree, disagree with what others say, but basically it's questions. Does anyone know if there is a possibility of more elements existing on other planets? Or have we discovered all the elemnts in existence? And also for extra, could there be elements that became 'extinct'?
People go on and on about how to cure the ill or sickly, finding a cure for every little 'problem' that comes across them. We've found most cures for most common problems, and saved over billions of lives. We have disease, virus, basically things that mess up our system that can even be fatal, from colds to cancer. But, the question is, why? Why do we have illness? Because it's part of Evolution? Because it's God's wrath? Why do we have disease that kill us? And why do we try and cure them?
