The 400 Blows is going to air on Showtime early Wednesday morning. I have not seen it, but it's considered a great movie.
Not sure if The Tree of Life is still running in theaters.

Here's a small list of my favorite movies: http://www.kh-vids.net/showthread.p...ovie-And-Why&p=3484561&viewfull=1#post3484561

Out of those, I have seen: Let the Right One In (my first Netflix Instant movie, I wanted to see it together with Let Me In), The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and yes, I have seen The Talented Mr. Ripley. I have been wanting to read the Ripley novels and watch the movie, Strangers on a Train.

I have heard great reviews for L'Illusioniste, and have wanted to see Where the Wild Things Are as as soon I as I saw the trailer on television. Full Metal Jacket is currently in my Netflix Instant queue.

Thanks for the list, I will consider each of those greatly. I have already seen A Clockwork Orange and Requiem for a Dream. I saw A Clockwork Orange only recently, but it's not on the list case I saw it on Netflix Instant. I still enjoyed it even though I'm not sure if I agree with it's message of morality.

My signature and avatar are from the movie, American Beauty, which you can see from my Netflix queue I rented back in May. I left a copy of it on my netbook's hard drive a long time before I finally got around to watching it about a week ago. As you can see, I fell in love with it.

I don't really know how to help you, since I have a couple of phobias myself that I never have gotten over. Which are a fear of repeating natural patters, and a fear of scissors and blades. I have to look away when looking at a swarm of ants criss-crossing each other. I also have to force myself to sit still and not tremble every time I get a haircut. I understand that these fears are totally irrational. I know that pattern that the ants are making is not going to hurt me, I know (hopefully) that that blade is not going to cut through the back of my neck. But yet I still look away, and I don't shave. But I know I'm just have to live with it and that I'm going to have to run into these things regularly.

Phobias are formed to help people survive, to avoid dangers. But house spiders are harmless to humans. The only advice I can think to give you is to constantly tell yourself so, even if you already know it.

This is actually an urban myth.

Serenity, a great science-fiction movie. Witty, action-packed, imaginative, perplexing. Not much more you can ask for. The only thing I would demand from this movie is, "More!" It's my third time having seen this, I love it.

EDIT: I think the new 5.0 skins are fine when it comes to link colors, so this request is open only for a specific skin, "KHV4.0: Final Mix."

Currently as it is now, I find it really hard to differentiate between links and regular text on this site.

So my suggestion is to change the default color for links.

Or maybe change default text color and leave the color of links alone.

    Or maybe add some underlines.

When taking a screenshot of a window on your desktop, it may look unprofessional when that screenshot shows your blurred desktop background. Especially if those screenshots are taken for presentation purposes. In this tutorial I will show you how to take a screenshot with a transparent background. We will be using a tool written in Python called Abscapture, whose simple but unique functions are needed for the purposes of this tutorial. A download link at the bottom of this post contains everything you need to run the necessary components under Windows without having to install anything.

I will be quoting the author of the Abscapture tool.

This tool works by capturing 2 screenshots. The first screenshot is the object on a black background. The second screenshot is the same object on a white background. The application then merges the 2 images together using a simple algorithm, producing a alpha-blended version of it."

It is based on an idea of... well, if you have 2 images, one on black and one on white. If color of a pixel in the first picture is equal to the second picture, then that pixel is fully opaque. If a pixel on the first picture is black, and another picture is white, then that pixel is fully transparent.

This tool is meant to run on and with other programs on Linux, so if you are on Windows, you will have to change your desktop background to black and white, take the two screenshots, and run the screenshots through the application yourself.

    Okay, let's get started.

Prepare your desktop, open the dialog that changes your desktop's background.

Take a screenshot with a black background. It's preferable if you save your images in a lossless format.

Then white. Make sure no elements within the window have changed since the first screenshot.

Run your screenshots through ablend.py, the script that blends the two images together. Open console.bat after extracting it from the download link, and enter "bin\python ablend.py image_on_black.png image_on_white.png output.png" without quotes. Replace the image_on_*.pngs with the names of your screenshots.

Your final image should look like the one below.

Looks good! But not all is perfect, the elements that have changed between the two pictures have become transparent. Notice the text below the desktop icons, and the color swatch. I wouldn't try to use this on anything animated.

But why go though all this trouble? Don't. There's already a great screenshot taking program for Windows called Shotty, that takes screenshots in the same way as Abscapture. Shotty's only downside is that it can't take transparent screenshots of the entire desktop. I have written this tutorial mainly to reference Abscapture, an invaluable tool. Using it only for screenshots would be a shame.

Okay, I realize this is a three-year-old post. I have seen all the movies in your number one spot, and I enjoyed Eternal and Juno tremendously. I found Wristcutters to be a bad movie, but it's charming and has its moments. Based on your taste I think I'll enjoy the other movies on your list too. I've already have The Breakfast Club recored on my DVR ready to watch.

There are so many movies in many different genres out there, I think it's impossible to just pick one as your favorite. I'm just gonna list a few movies that I found wonderful, in no particular order.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (there was a time that I considered this movie the best movie of all-time)
    Fargo
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    A.I. Artificial Intelligence
    Magnolia
    American Beauty (you couldn't tell?)
    Seven
    The Silence of the Lambs
    Pan's Labyrinth
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    The Tree of Life
Dark City (get my location reference?)

These are only a few, I'm sure I've missed many others that I'll want to put up here later. I'm also sure that there are many more movies unseen by me that'll make it onto this list.

    Sexuality

As a gay male, of course I wouldn't have a problem with homosexuality/bisexuality, and I don't know anyone personally that does have a problem with it. I just like guys and don't get what's so sexy about women. Just like how straight men would like women but not get men.

But even if people don't mean anything by it, I find it distressing when someone assumes you're straight. Like how people ask if I have a girlfriend yet. I also remember my older brother telling me how he was gonna take me to Hooters on my 18th birthday. I rolled my eyes when he said that. Anyways I came out to friends and family when I turned 17 much to everyone's surprise, and now they all leave me alone about it. That's just about sums up any conflict I've had in my life with my homosexuality. My family reacted much stronger when I told them I wanted to become a vegetarian and when they found out I was an atheist.

I have seen that movie, and that really is the key phrase, just happens to be gay. I found that movie a great representation of people in general.

I think maybe your cell phone's hard drive may have some bad sectors.

Try running CKHDSK on your cell phone and see if that does anything. First open a terminal window by going to Start > Run.. then enter cmd in the new window. Type in the following into the terminal that appears. Replace x with your cell phone's drive letter.

    Code:
    chkdsk x: /r

Screenshots of extracted FMVs. They have been resized to the correct display aspect ratio.

An extractor capable of ripping FMVs from the various versions of both Kingdom Hearts II [Final Mix] and Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. For GNU/Linux and Windows.

Screenshot of the application running on Windows 8.

    Download

It should be noted that all videos extractable by this application have a display aspect ratio of 8:5. Program is unable to extract from HD remixes of games.

    To-do
    • Add optional muxing step
    • Add ability to auto-refresh drive list
    • Add cancel ability to extraction process
    • Add optional clean-up step of unnecessary files after demuxing and decoding
    • Add dialogs to "Help" button

Here's my try at it, I also made a signature if you want it.

EDIT: Actually, maybe this avatar and signature may not be allowed, with it's fast moving images. You should ask an admin about this before putting these images as your avatar/signature.

The filesize for the image below is 1,467 KB.

And this image is 444 KB, three times smaller than the first one. In this tutorial I will show you how to get similar compression results.

Both images contain the same number of frames, and I used the same optimization settings when compressing them. The difference in these two images is the number of changing pixels.

GIF compression knows when a frame uses the same exact pixels as the frame before it, and compresses accordingly. Sprites compress well in GIFs because of the sheer number of repeating pixels.

This GIF I made a few years ago is only 146 KB.

To get the same result when compressing frames from a film is very difficult, because of grain and camera movement. Take a look at the first image again. What's moving in the picture? The girl, her refection, her shadow, and the hat.

The rest can be masked out to show the first frame's background. This second image is the result of doing so.

The method was applied to this GIF, it has a larger filesize than the second, but it has a lower resolution and number of frames. This is because there are more moving pixels.

I will be using GIMP for masking. The principle is essentially the same in other advanced graphic editors.

Open your frames in GIMP as layers, with the first frame starting at the bottom.

Select moving elements in the second frame

Then from the selection, we will create a mask.

Make a copy of the frame before.

And merge your current frame with it.

After, it's rinse and repeat with the next frame, adding or subtracting from the selection to create masks. Do not subtract too much from the selection so that it won't show the elements of frame before it.

When you are done, save your frames. They are now ready to be compressed by a GIF making program.
This method of creating highly compressed GIFs by masking unmoving parts won't work in most cases, especially if you want to make a GIF with a lot of moving pixels, like rain or action scenes.
