THIS THREAD DEMANDS MORE COMMENTS AND I SHALL ATTEMPT TO SATE IT'S HUNGER. Jayn, you have an amazing voice and DO NOT let ANYONE tell you otherwise, I was on the verge of tears with Donut Hole yet I had a feeling of tranquility (I can’t explain well, it’s like that feeling you get when you are not the only one who feels like that and you kind of smile inside). The harmony is amazingly good and your voice stands out very well. No complaints from me here. You really inspire me to record more stuff, if only I knew how to do sing-able melodies or fit my voice to the melodies I would attempt to do an original track with vocal…
Spreading the love around this section. Dude, you have an really good voice (Or maybe my voice is the one that’s bad rofl), really fitting for the melodic things, your cover of Eyes on Me is really good and I would’ve voted for it if I paid KHV Idol more attention (My mistake as I don’t have a good sound card to record myself singing, I’ll try to pay more attention to it from this point forward, but I can't promise much because bad memory lol). My only problem is that doesn’t stands out enough and it kind of blends in with the piano, maybe up the volume a bit? Not that much of a problem, though. Also some little tiny Reverb couldn’t hurt, I understand the hate on using effects on your voice but it sounds a bit dry (Maybe because of your microphone or sound card? IDK). I am not forcing you to change your way of recording but just throwing a few suggestions, sorry if I make it seem otherwise.
The original melodies themselves are very well done, with lots of harmony and hard work clearly put into them, but I am left wondering after listening to some of these… Are you using Soundfonts or MIDI instruments? Don’t need to answer the question I definitely not mind, just wondering because the instruments themselves sound kinda synthy, not that much it’s recognizable. That and I have experienced the nightmare known as having to render with a Sounfont in the thing. Still they sound good. But really, cool stuff you have here, did you have any formal training in musical composition of sorts? Just wondering again because I have none rofl (I am self-taught in this), and what you have there sounds really good from an harmonic standpoint, so it must been hard (Or it was to me) to learn harmony and stuff.
Looking really cool. c: Yeah, I feel it very hard to get out of my comfort zone to listen to music though, and it's sad because there are a lot of undiscovered great bands for me (Rata Blanca would be an example of something I heard once or twice but haven't given a good listen yet) Yeah, I had the bad luck the place they placed was a pretty closed bar (I don't drink at all though, I swear! And I normally don't go to bars), and the floor was pretty old too, so it kept on shaking. :l On unrelated notes, I've been pretty in the mood to compose something new but I don't have the inspiration for it yet. Or the genre I want to pick (I've been thinking... More Symphonic Metal maybe? Melodic Metal? Something more... Acoustic/Symphonic? IDK) It feels... Ankward, I want to do it but there are days I wake up and I feel like a complete idiot at composing music.
Somebody actually bothering to reply what I post here not once, but twice? Have I entered bizzaro dimension? Nah just kidding, I really thank you, honestly. c: Being honest, I don't follow bands either, save for Queen, I just listen to songs, I DO have some sort of personal bias with what songs I listen depending on if I listened to that band/artist either because I got previous examples if they are competent or not. But I am not afraid to listen to new stuff as long as I get recommendations from people I know (Read: I started listening to Led Zeppelin from somebody in my family's recommendation) Speaking of that somebody, I saw one of it's friends and it's band play a few days ago, they played Rock and stuff, pretty good if it wasn't for the fact the constant vibrations of the sound didn't made me almost deaf. Haha. It was a nice experience though.
...Anyone? In the words of Yngwie Malmsteen and Mike Vescera "No one cares, no one tries." *SIGH* Guess I have to start then, to liven up the mood. Being honest, I have never listened to real bands or artists until I was around 15, I was absolutely onto only videogame music, until I discovered Guilty Gear and it's song "Keep Yourself Alive" which has the same name as a Queen song. Queen then turned into the first band I ever listened, sure, I had listened to some small bits of the songs from my family before, but I was never into it as much as I am now.
So who wants to engage with me in a chat of music, music creation, art designing as a way to vent out frustations, videogames and the such? We can do it on Skype or here on PMs if you don't feel like adding me for such a minor thing. Or depending how my mood is or how available I am. *Seriously bored*
Hmm... I do own some MIDI tabs I can look at, and if I feel like alter some notes. On top of that I found some video of a guy drawing solos/riffs out of thin air using a MOUSE of all things. Apparently the trick is in doing a melody and then repeating it one note higher/one note lower/Yougetit. Then playing with it, then doing more melodies, and so on. Another problem is, I can't get a very "Metal solo" sound with the distortion plugin I'm using, either because the version I'm using it's outdated (I know there is a newer one) and/or I don't know how the sound it's named (I heard it being called OverDrive or HiGain by some) Or maybe it's my horrible on-board sound card not letting the plugin reproduce those sounds (Just a theory)... Oh well, I will figure it out eventually, I always do. Thanks anyways (Also I legitly "Wut'd" when I saw somebody reply to one of my music-related matters)
Pfft, they say too much love will kill you anyways. No need for that, or In Real-Life friends for that matter. I lived that way my entire life, and look how fine I am! Just look how fine and happy... I... Haha... I a... ... ... (OH GOD SOMEBODY PLEASE PUT AN END TO MY MISERY)
"(I) SURRENDER I GIVE IN ANOTHER MOMENT, IS ANOTHER ETERNITYYYYYYYYYYY" Man KHV, I've been getting monumentally better at songwriting except but one small part... Solos. Don't know how to make them, don't have the theory or experience on my side, just, no... To resume the problem, I'm terrrible at freeflow melodies, I'm better at following song structure and/or riffs. Maybe, just maybe, I could make my solos follow a song structure of some sort... Hmm... Then again, I barely step out of my musical comfort zone so I don't have many examples of solos from multiple guitarists. Eh, they say experimentation adds some flavor in the mix. Anyways, on another news, snail's pace at BD, slowly moving but... Slowly (Still at Chapter 2 rofl)
Truth be told, I was just messing with some new backgrounds and stuff I've got recently lol. Meant to be another simplistic piece. I really like the text though. CnC please and thank you. c:
Being honest? I understand your point completely, Art institutes I got suggered as well but I want the full package, I FEEL a good game director should be able to do as much as he can and help as much as possible (Or atleast that's the kind of person I want to be) I've been thinking about taking online classes at Full Sail next year ever since I saw the ad for it, but I don't know how valid the title will be here, and I never took online classes before so I have "New Experience Fear" as usual. I guess I got some investigation to do. Yes, I agree going to an University because they are school may be an old-timer's mentality. Honestly, I just want to be taught how to make videogames and be taught well, I don't care if I need to take informal classes to do it. But I feel a good title couldn't hurt either (Except for my poor family's wallet, ouch) But anyways, thanks for your kind reply. c:
Honestly? This is what is keeping me back from studying videogame design classes (The passion of my life, this is the reason why I learned how to compose music and some light programming), so I feel your pain. My problem is that there’s NO place period here to learn that, that it doesn’t include traveling huge lengths. And I’m too agoraphobic to face that yet. And I want a renowned place so I can get into the videogame industry easier. But nobody wants to establish this class on this place, nevermind that there is a branch of one of the biggest universities here that has that class on the bigger building, but not on the branch here. Also, contacts are important. If you don’t know the right people you may get lost, all nervous and all hopeless, so make sure you spend your years at there knowing some people. Anyways... Does it matter where you get your mastery? It matters yes, make sure you get a good place, not because of the relevancy of the title only, but of the knowledge, techniques, etc. That you get there too. You don’t get taught the same from going to a big university in the centre of the city than one on the edge of it (To give an example) If I’m wrong on anything please feel free to correct me, I’m bad at this stuff but I really wanted to be helpful. <_<
Oh, my apologies, I didn't notice you there. Silly me. Anyways, congratulations to you too!
c: On a random note... Congratulations, to both you and calxiyn! May your days as Staff be filled with joy and a sense of fulfillment, you earned it rightfully and I am oh so happy and proud for both of you.
GOTTA GET AWAY HOLY DIVEEEEEEEEEEEEER. Finished playing Bravely Default for today, made it Chapter 2's town and got the Angel's Bow. Slowly making progress because I am not much in the mood to game lately. So, how it's going?
Yeah, sadly NIS America (The localizing company) is one of those niche companies, and of the kind that rather do all the trouble of bringing out the Japanese Voicetrack for Dual Audio (Because it apparently isn't as easy as just leaving the voicetracks there, atleast from what I heard, you are free to correct me, though) rather than getting high quality VAs. How's the game itself, by the way? I heard a lot of good things about it.
http://kh-vids.net/threads/laplace’s-videogame-song-covers-original-compositions-etc.142572/#post-4152356 Ah, after going to listening some good old Rock on Sunday, I felt enough inspired to do this today. This took like 2 tries (One which sounded horrible), and the second one 3 hours of doing nothing but heavy composing and then some further polishing.
Birthday present for Jayn and for somebody of my family, yes I know I'm awfully late for the former, but I needed to gain more composition knowledge and abilities in order to tackle a song like this. And even then the solo is... Alright.
Oh, today it’s your birthday? Happy birthday! I know we barely have talked to each other (Have we even talked to each other, actually? lolbadmemory), but that still not stops me from wishing you a happy birthday. c: May you have an enjoyable one, may all your birthday wishes come true and may you have many, many more.
