"You want to lie to me?" Edward asked softly, trying to catch her eye.
Edward smiled slightly. "You're forgetting something again, dear," he muttered.
Edward frowned, pursing his lips. "Hmm," he began slowly. "I... I'm guessing that's all, exactly, that happened?"
"Do you want to tell me what happened with Lestat?" Edward asked slowly. "Sorry, but someone like me doesn't really understand the phrase 'blood exchange' very well."
"If you'd like," Edward replied, running a hand through her hair. "It's... it's up to you, I guess."
Edward shook his head, not convinced. "Do you want to talk?"
Edward sighed, carefully getting into Van Helsing's carriage. He lay Hannah down next to him, holding her head in his lap. "Are you feeling alright?" he asked slowly.
"Hm," was all Edward said to Hannah. "Yes, let's go," he added to Van Helsing. "Thanks to all your help."
"No, stay up," Edward said as they reached Van Helsing, Carl, and Jinx, shaking her body in his arms. "You told me to keep you awake."
"You can tell me in your own words in a bit, then, if it makes you feel better," Edward said as they came out of the trees.
Sounds good, Edward said to Michael, and then squeezed Hannah's shoulders tighter. "Once we get moving again you'll be better," he whispered to her. "I can keep you awake."
Away? Edward repeated. I can keep her in the carriage for the rest of the day it takes to get to the Valerias castle. That's good enough, I think; if she wants control like she says she does, then she will have the strength to get better.
Edward sighed and held Hannah tighter. "It's okay," he whispered. "You'll get better." Is there any way to help her? he asked Michael, not turning his head.
Edward frowned as he walked, looking down at her."That doesn't sound like you, dear," he said softly. I know, Edward sent to Michael. Which is why I want to help and make it a quicker process so she's well enough to get rid of John for good.
"He'll get up," Edward said to Hannah, stepping after Van Helsing. "You'll be okay," he added more softly. "Tell me what I can do."
"Good," Edward said, ignoring John and holding Hannah as tightly to him as he could. "Let's move before he gets the nerve to speak again."
Edward nodded and stepped over to Michael. "Give her to me," he whispered calmly, putting Van Helsing's now-empty gun into his pocket again.
"You don't want to leave?" Edward sighed, getting fustrated with Michael. "Fine; stay and let her see this." He stepped over to John, cocking back the hammer of his gun once more. He stuck one of his feet under the vampire's stomach, kicking him over onto his back. Edward fired one of his two last bullets into John's right kneecap, the final one lodging into his collarbone, the force dislocating his right shoulder. Edward moved back slightly, running a hand through his hair and sighing.
Edward's eyes went back to Hannah as Van Helsing walked over to him. "Leave John," he said, giving him a nod of thanks. "Michael, you and Van Helsing take Hannah back to the carriages now. I will be there in a minute."
Edward growled but kept his mouth shut, letting his eyes stray to John.
