Instant thumbs-down, or can you endure if it gets better?

A lot of webcomics get their start when the artist isn't very good - some even intended as practice - and end with jaw-dropping scenery and visually charming characters. What's more, many comics start with a simplistic premise or with no clear goal in mind, and ultimately settle into a consistent and enjoyable narrative, or gradually become more complex until they bloom into storytelling masterpieces. Question is, can you stand the wait?

Are you all right with a comic that takes time to get its bearings, or do you stick to stuff that's solid from the get-go? What comics, if any, were you previously unable to get into because of a slow start? Do you consider it worth the trouble if the story picks up and the artist learns a thing or two about anatomy? Do you ever prefer to just skip the mediocre bits and get right to the good part? Or do you find a comic's humble beginnings to be delightful in their own way?

I'm lookin' for alternatives to Gmail, because I'm sick of hearing about their privacy scandals, them gathering info to feed me ads I block anyway and trying to make a Google+ profile on my behalf every time I so much as scratch my ass. Dedicated to privacy, preferably based outside of the US, doesn't need to have all the fancy features but the ability to create aliases is a plus. Any ideas? Currently looking at Hushmail, but I'm open to suggestions.

Budding comic with a lot of style and a truly unique premise, not to mention a feature more webcomics should try out... animations! Novel idea, we are on the internet after all! "But Nova Homestuck already does tha-" SHUT UP IT'S STILL UNCOMMON

It looks to be telling many stories as they revolve around one - the time travelers who pass through Saint's hotel, and how they shape each others' destinies. It's only just begun, but it already looks quite promising.

So I'm just gonna put this out there - This is the funniest comic on the net right now. That's a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. And it does it all while remaining kid-friendly and clean. Amusing mythos, has the markings of a successful children's TV show but with all the savvy and self-awareness you'd expect from a modern-day parody. Another thing you could compare it to is Soul Eater, what with the vivid and colorful art style and the emphasis on kids fighting spirits and such. Four chapters in so it's not long to catch up, and the artist is dedicated to his schedule.

Successor to a comic which won a slew of awards in the early 2000's, and that doesn't surprise me in the least. Bad Machinery might be my favorite webcomic at the moment. Best laughs next to Paranatural, and the cast is downright charming, every last one of them. Despite the strange circumstances the kids find themselves in, their actions and reactions are so natural and relatable that I feel as if I must know them from somewhere. It's all so vibrant and alive, it's as if Tackleford is a real place I could really visit - if I'm ever in the mood for some paranormal shenanigans. Click it once and you'll never quit.

So kinda like Harry Potter if Miyazaki wrote it. Brilliant story, lovely setting, driven by rich and organic characters, makes good use of all its plot elements. Deserves every award it gets.

Man, looking back on that first page it still floors me how far Tom has come. I mean just look at Annie...

Aaaand a couple survey questions for the fans in the stands, which I will then answer myself:
    • Favorite character - Annie, Kat, Robot, Coyote
    • Favorite chapter - Ch25: Sky Watcher and the Angel
    • Favorite partnership - Robot&Shadow, Kat&Paz
    • Ysengrin: Tragic underdog or unhinged psychopath - Eh y'know, little of both. /poses the question then dodges it

So first I found out I wouldn't get my female Mega-Mawile named Yunalesca and that was upsetting

Why the fuck would you not be able to Megavolve 70% of the Megavolving Pokémon until postgame GAME FREAK EITHER COMMIT TO YOUR COOL NEW SHIT OR TAKE IT THE FUCK OUT DON'T YANK MY CHAIN

Then I caught a Mawile anyway and forgot to save before shutting off because I was tired and conflated healing with auto-saving somehow I blame Evoland

then I FINALLY managed to catch a new one

and it had fucking forgot Fairy Wind, its only damaging move, for Sweet Scent.

Then out of curiosity I looked at the E4 to plan ahead and realized I only needed three attack types to beat them all... and I didn't have any of them on my projected final squad

At that point my strategy had fallen apart and I looked at my Pokés and started hating them all and I just said FUCK ALL THE SHITS

    CLEANSE THIS FILE IN FIRE

and now I have a Froakie named Ingway

and I'm gonna get a Charmander and name it something dumb like Holyfield GET IT CHARMANDER HOLYFIELD

and life is just better = u=
