Yeah, it is.
Open up the transparent PNG in Gimp--it will have a checkerboard background, that means it's transparent.
In your Layers dialog, right-click on the layer and choose 'Alpha to Selection'. It should select the entire render.
Create a new layer.
Edit -> Fill with FG Color
And you should be done. :]
