Why......?

Discussion section is almost silent with talk, and all the good serious talk is in the Spam Zone.

You guys are killin me.

 

I'm not in the Discussion section just now... And even if I were, no one would respond to me. Pity, pity...

 

Huhr I'm tryna keep away from discussions, let people get on with it :) Too much battling with school work to be done to spend time battling with others!

 

Must awaken its potential again...

 

The "good serious talk" seems to constantly start up in threads made with intents to discuss less substantial topics?

 

Indeed, similar to what real life can do, which shows some healthy development of conversations we've done.

 

I always try to avoid the Spam Section. I prefer Discussion over everything and it upsets me that it is practically a ghost town.

 

Is the Discussion section still good?
Haven't been there since December.

 

What was it like when you got there? I need some basis for comparison.

 

Slow, but occasionally there would be that one thread where only the actually intelligent people posted for the most part.
It was nice.

 

Right now it is slower than it was and there hasn't been an intelligent discussion in a while.

That is what we are sad about.

Which part was the "not really" bit? Because that should have stayed.

 

I wasn't the one that changed it, but it was called that for some time.

 

I prefer serious talk in the spam zone, I feel less pressure to be coherent and topical. There's been so many discussion threads I've wanted to post in but I always feel that my posts were inadequate.

Now the discussion is less intelligent... Meh.

 

Pretty sure it was changed in 2007 or 2008. I don't think removing the word changed anything... and there was plenty of unintelligent discussion before.

Oh, well. I guess the name wouldn't really change anything, that's why I said meh. The rules, though... Those have indeed become more lax on intelligence (not subjective) but have instead become more strict regarding offensiveness (subjective).

Shame on you two. What do you have to worry about? You are not incoherent and your posts are readable, aren't they?

 

Just because the 'intelligent' part isn't there doesn't mean that discussion has to be any less 'intelligent' than it did before. And to be fair, I don't recall the section to be of any specific quality as far as intelligence went. The egomaniac I was back then would only point out that I had posted there and that was that.

However, now posting isn't that much of a...compulsion. Premium status has been met. Now posting is mostly about imparting a witty remark every now and again. Not so much a 'have to' as a 'want to'.​
