    Rayquaza doesn't have wings, and nor does Tornadus. Wings =/= flying type
    It's flying type because it's based off of a mythological sea serpent that was said to be able to 'swim' though the air as easily as water.

    WHAT. I thought Gyrados was Water/Dragon. ;-;

    Then again, Charizard has wings and it's Fire/Dragon and can't learn Fly. XD

    It's a dragon, it's just not Dragon type. Because it has two types already.

    Where does it say that, because I just checked all the flavor text for each dex online, and all they mention is, when he is pissed, flame on tail gets bigger, how hot his flames can get, and that he flies around the skies looking to beat people up. No mention of being a dragon.

    She's partially right. Charizard couldn't learn fly in Red/Blue, he was first able to in Yellow.
    *-shot for knowing this-
    Of course if the last pokemon game you played was Red or Blue you're a tad behind.

    Originally, in the original games, Gyrados was meant to be a water/dragon type pokemon but they chose to to change it to a water/flying type.
    They did this because a pokemon with a water/dragon type would have no weakness. The only thing it would be weak against would be dragon moves, but the only dragon move in the original games that did damage was dragon breath but that move only ever does 40 damage. Hope that helps.

    Doduo and Dodrio don't have wings either. They are norm/flying type.

    Yeah..at the very least it does normal damage. It might be water resists ice and water does normal against ice, or vise versa.

    Gyarados was originally meant to be a water/dragon type, but they figured that it was unnecessary, especially considering its stats at the time since it was the first generation would have been fine as they were, and a water/dragon would have been too powerful with Gyarados as it was, so they decided to change it to a water/flying to even things out

    Water resists ice. Water deals normal damage to ice.

    Also, Venomoth has wings, and its sprite shows it hovering off the ground, yet it is Bug/Poison.
    So yeah, appearances can be deceiving...annoyingly deceiving.
