On the contrary, I find that adding a smiley at the end of a text can influence the attitude of said text. Since, in a post or a text, there is no tone of voice by which you can judge a persons' intentions, you have to rely on your perception alone. If there's a smiley, however, you can know that the person doing the correcting is not offended, angry, or upset, merely trying to clear up a simple misunderstanding.

For example, I am neither offended, nor angry, nor upset in any way. So by adding a smiley, I can assure you that I am not trying to yell at you, and I am in no way trying to pick a fight. Just trying to clear up a small misunderstanding. :)

Well then, that's probably not where I know you from. Ah well. :)

In fact, today was just going to be another "guest" visit, but I decided I wanted to post, so I actually logged on today. But believe me, I haven't missed a single post in the pirate thread, evern when I wasn't online. XD

Haha, pretty much, I was spending on average 6 hours a day on KHV, and it was unhealthy, to say the least. So I "left," and have been devoting my time to attempts at bettering myself. But, when I have a few minutes to spare, I still get online and check how things are going, but since I don't log in, post, talk to people, and respond to threads, I don't spend as much time on here as I used to. So, I left, kind of. It's hard to explain. :P

Ah, but I am more often annoyed by the result than the intention. It does not matter what attitude you do an annoying thing with, it is still annoying. For instance, helping someone when they neither need nor want the help is annoying even though you know they just want to be helpful. Haven't you ever had someone who babied you, for instance, to your great annoyance? In those cases, the nicer someone is about it, the more annoying it is.

You will avoid a lot of misunderstandings if you care less about intentions and more about actual results.

 

Ah, so it's not a problem with the smiley at all, you're just annoyed that someone corrected you on something?

 

More that someone corrected a typo. And more so that it is Amaury, because he meant it. Correcting a typo for humour is acceptable. Doing it to take a peg down on me is also acceptable. Actually correcting it as if it is worth correcting or as if it is actually a favor to me is annoying. I do not correct others' typos myself, as rigorous as I am.

 

If you have an issue with me, talk to me in private about it. If you feel it's a bigger issue, contact the staff.

No need to make it public.

I meant this post with the challenging bit, in which you generalized in what I think you yourself would consider a derogatory manner. To exemplify this, check the username in the quote and read it from that perspective:

Aye, I must admit, I was getting fairly angry with you by that time, and this question was meant in a derogatory manner. I sincerely apologize. However, to take a challenging post from the middle of an argument and to say that it was the cause of said argument is a far stretch. You brought up the smiley, and when I tried to clear it up, (admittedly overstepping my bounderies, as it was not my issue to try and solve,) you came back with an argumentative response, after which, and not before, I posted the above statement. The challenging and derogatory statement I made (although unneccesary and quite uncalled for) was not "pressing the issue," but rather, a continuation of the issue you had already pressed.
