I'm just confused by what you wanted. In story, it's an FPS where you go from point A to point B shooting things with cool powers and guns each with a unique property and with drop-in, drop-out co-op and being able to recruit anyone you see. In explore, it's typical MMO quests that are quick to complete with dynamic events and daily collection quests to complete while completing those. PvP is just that- PvP, with a few modes to meet different builds. Then there's Iron Banner where your time put in will make it break your entire team. To prep for that, you need to do Raids and Strikes to earn cool loot.

Just from that overview it sounds like it delivered on everything that can be expected by being told it's genre blend.

So what I'm asking is what did you want? Random quests where you have to do tower defense stuff? Some story stuff has you in claustrophobic areas and some in wide open areas, benefiting different builds and keeping options on your player. It seems to diversify itself in the way a shooter can

Addendum: it's like what we talked about with RE4. I get it. You wanted these games to move the industry forward. You just can't expect that. If every game moved us forward, we wouldn't have good takes on what got us here, ya know?

Eh, we've had the talk where I just enjoy playing and replaying games. If you want content, Hyrule Warriors is probably 120 hours worth of content, but at what cost? You're doing very similar things in Legend mode each time you're doing something new. If you want to play the game more, do it up, ya know? I always cite masterpiece games like SotC, DOOM, and OoT here- they didn't have much content, but they're so fun to play you'll sound insane criticizing them. Most point and clicks fit in here too, and fighting games. That's why I stick by: if I'm having fun playing what's in front of me, I'm not going to complain. There won't be a perfect game that delivers on every itch, it's just not possible. Besides, the game has to stand on its own. In ten years? Interviews won't matter, only the game itself. It's weird because we live in the present, so that stuff seems to matter now, but I didn't need to read DOOM interviews to realize I had a design masterpiece in front of me- I sought that stuff out to learn more about my enjoyment.

They're judging by what they see. Can't blame them, but it's definitely a lot different, yes.

This is why I never buy hype train tickets. I watch gameplay or try it, and if I like it, I throw it on my list of games to buy. When I get the hinkering, I pick it up.

Destiny feels fantastic to play. I spent a week in the beta just playing.

As for what went wrong? The only complaint I see from people that's common is "too short." .... To me, saying an MMO is too short because of the single player story is like criticizing a fighting game for the arcade mode only being eight battles. The point is to just play and improve and give yourself an edge in raids and pvp. "BUT ALL THE PVP DOESNT HAVE LEVEL CRAP" but not Iron Banner, which has unique rewards and loot.

OH MAN WoW WHAT MMO IS THAT LIKE

Arright, I couldn't wait. I played a bit of King of Fighter '02 to warm up and OH MY GOOOOOOOOD.

    I FOUND

    MY FIGHTER

No, really. My god. His special is the Giga Drill Break from Gurren Lagann. I can't even... YES.

I don't know jack about Sengoku BASARA, but it sounds like a musou? If so, I'm supportive. That genre is full of games that give endless satisfaction.

TEKKEN WAS SOMETHING I WISH I ADDED :C Unfortunately, I only buy XBLA games digitally and there's no Tekken games on the XBLA, so no chance of a sale. Most of the games I listed I've picked up for $3~

That's how I felt. For a very long time. Then I had a match with someone in VF5U awhile back and it was... a new experience. He was an experienced player and was showing me the ropes but decided he was going to unleash the beast all over me... but I didn't want to take that sitting down. It ended up being a match of wits, dodging, combos, beat downs, and making a reaction to every possible thought process. It was an amazing time, and I won that fight... He won a lot more than me after, but there was something about that moment that clicked.

Besides then, I hear Nova talking about them a LOT... A LOT.... Seriously. Release a fighting game, he'll play it, cuddle it like a teddy bear at night, find a tourney for it, and just be happy to be there participating. It's admirable.

So with the exposure and the understanding, now we have the fact that I try to be studied in game design theory. I know things from trivia to actual mechanics and what their intents were to things like engine building and what comes from certain tech and specs. I could review games and probably do well at it (No, I will not). I can talk most games with a sense of intellect. Every genre... except fighting games. I want to correct that.

This weekend or next I'm locking myself in a room and learning fighting games. Finally.

    -Street Fighter III: Third Strike
-The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match
-The King of Fighters '02: Ultimate Match
-Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of the Super Heroes
    -Marvel Super Heroes
    -Marvel vs Capcom 2
    -Mortal Kombat
    -Mortal Kombat II
    -Ultimate Mortal Kombat III
    -Darkstalkers' Revenge
    -Dark Stalkers 3
    -Garou: Mark of the Wolves
    -Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown

Debating adding Samurai Shodown II and NeoGeo Battle Coliseum

The goal is NOT to master all of these games. That'd be dumb. And impossible. The goal is to recognize patterns between games so I can enter other games in the genre easier, find a playstyle, learn to read combo lists, learn to perform combos with a pad reliably, and learn just how to... behave in the genre from things like movement and approaching a new game.

    PEOPLE GONNA GET BEAT DOWN

    FAQS:

    WHERE'S SMASH?

It's... not the same as the type of games I'm trying to learn.

    SKULLGIRLS?

    Shut up

    Guilty Gear?

NOVA YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED IN HERE

WHY ARE THEY OUT OF DATE

UHHH EXCUSE ME? OUT OF DATE? Beeeetch, these games are from the glory days of Dreamcast and NeoGeo. It was a time where you were first to get dessert by walking over a trail of defeated siblings. Plus, SNK and Capcom always made really interesting stuff back then and SEGA's VF5U is really interesting to play as it takes the idea of getting into your opponents head and applies it to 3D space.

    which one

Smash is a good quality fad right now, but it's still a fad. Like MK8, the online community will die down. It'll also kick back when the superior Wii U version comes out. FEA isn't dependent on an online community. Part of the fun of Smash is Smashing with friends and single player stuff can only go for as long as it can keep your interest
