Well on the bright side when you're older you'll laugh at this all, because then life will really be a pain in the *** and you'll see how you worried for nothing.
I've never been a fan of them. Sure you may have contact, but I see it as being a hollow relationship. if you can make it work then I applaud you, as I know some people that have managed to make it work. I have yet to see one turn into a full relationship though. In all it's entirely up to how you feel about them and whether or not you want to invest, but if one doesn't turn out as good as you wanted it to be there's always the option to move on and date people close to you. Seeing as you're still pretty young, it doesn't hurt to keep your options open.
Have a large amount of kids as a way to cheat taxes comes from a loop hole that should be fixed to provide better financial aid for those that are on or below the poverty line. Once the quality of life in areas of all economic standings increases, so wil lthe number of children per household. People know what they're doing when they do something like that. And they do it simply because it can give them a break. Also contraception implies the prevention of fertilization, abortion prevents the development of an embryo.
Putting a murderer to death and killing in self-defense are two completely different things. In self-defense there is a current act being commited that, if no action to stop it is taken, it'll pose a threat to oneself or others at the present time. A prisoner on death row poses no threat as long as they're in prison. If prisoners are killing eachother it's because the prison system isn't as good as it should be. There are some cases where prisons are completely run by the inmates and those working there are simply under an agreement that things won't get too "out of hand". Yes it may produce deterance and reduce prisoner population, but either way it's still contradictory to lobby for the morality of preserving life and wanting to kill it at the same time. I brought up religion because the death penalty is mostly sanctioned in states that see morality and religion to be one and the same. But even with removing the religion aspect from it my argument still stands. You yourself have said that to take the life of a fetus is wrong, yet you support taking the life of a criminal by means of public execution. One life that is arguably debateable as opposed to one that, even if slim, still has a chance to better themselves even if it requires medication or more solitude from the world. A life is still a life regardless. Like I said before, what happens if you know that a certain fetus is going to grow up to be responsible for the mass extinction of the human race. Would it be alright to abort it then? Right to life should apply to all living things. If there's no moral excuse to end a life before it fully begins, then there's no moral excuse to end one that can still continue and learn from it's mistakes, and nothing a person does should have merit to strip them of that natural born right.
I respect that view, there's never a guarantee as to what you can do with life. I'd like to think that there just aren't extreme cases on this topic, as I think that if you're going to have sex you should take the right precautions if you don't want a pregnancy on your hands. But as I've said I'm not lobbying for a system where people can just stop by whenever they want and abort a fetus. There are certain complications and those should be screened for in a system that is actively controlled and monitored by a health board.
Um okay, let's just break down the physiology of the eye here. Seeing as you're quite adamant on the retina let's get that down. The retina is composed of various layer and can be peeled like an onion. Each of these layers consist of various cells, namely photoreceptors, bipolar cells, and ganglion cells. When light comes into contact with the iris it enters the pupil and hits the lens of the eye. The lense is able to change shape in order to focus on an image properly. Once sent through the lense, light makes contact with the photoreceptors of the retina which depolarize when light makes contact and send signals (information) through the bipolar cells to the ganglion cells, which are connected to nerve endings that connect to the brain. And after being processed in brain, we get sight as a result. In playyhelmenthese, which is a species of th flat worm, the "eye" structures present on the dorsal "front" of the organism consist of simplistic versions of photoreceptors and ganglion cells. They can't detect colour, but they are able to detect light from dark, and that's enough to enable them to escape predators. You're using some old, straight-out of the book wrong arguments that favour creationism. It's also highly dubious for a doctor to say something like the retina is unable to come from evolution, especially since he/she would've taken introductory biology in both highschool and university, so if you want to make up stories those go in the RP section.
Yeah, as a normal advice thread there's no issue.
I will be honest and say that I've never really had any sort of profound issue in my life that would make me fit to relate or even feel what someone with a a very serious issue, like what you're actually referring to. I can imagine, but I've never experienced something like an abusive family member, sexual molestation, or even the death of a close loved one. And I don't want to create the idea that I don't believe the interent can help. If done right anything, including self-help/ kids help phone-like forums, can work. Sadly my expereinces have only shown me pop-culture whores playing the cliche emo card. But if something is to work fully, it can't just be a thread on a forum about gaming. It needs to be an entire forum. For the record I'll always see live human conversation to be better than any internet site. And that's my spiel.
Yeah there is a relation amongst those that like to share their problems with those that experience the same ones, but you don't go through 4 years of post-secondary education and sometimes graduate school to be a crappy guidance counsilor that knows nothing about kids. I'm sorry that your school has one that lacks the ability to relate to kids of a certain, and yes some programs are just down right shiet, but most work unbelievably well. The only issue is the subjective barrier that the generations build for themselves. Kids are always going to think that adults don't understand them in some way, but forget that adults were also kids once, and dealt with the same, if not worse things. Also, there is issue with the level of comfort some people perceive there to be. Of course you'll find people that know what it's like and are generally cool about it. But most of the time-- sadly-- it is a whole bunch of kids that haven't lived life enough to know their own ignorance as to how good their lives actually are. Then what you get is a giant vortex of youth misconception, mixed with ignorance, and horrible pop culture fads (If not all three, at least the first two). Yes there is anonimity, but there are also *******s on the internet that will never make anything a truely safe place. Plus nothing says empathy like a good real hug.
I'm sorry but Koei perfected the 1 vs 1 million battle system with the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Samurai warriors is just a bunch of different skins, stories and music. There's nothing new about it. Dynasty forever.
Oh, well it was my mistake to take offense then. Yes Canada rocks a many socks. And this may be a "help thread", but it's shiet and will never replace professional guidance or family.
I'm sorry, apparently my being from Canada warrants that my valid point about emo and suicidal kids discussing their problems on an open forum-- most of which consists of kids-- not be needed? Alright that's cool. The problem is that most people are unfit on a forum to deal with people who actually have problems. At most you'll get the odd dysfunctional emo kid who thinks that they can't talk to anyone because they have too much goddamn Simple Plan running through their ears, when in fact they're just an ignorant, inconsiderate brat that hasn't even tried to do anything, and decides that wallowing in their own self-pity and sharing it with obviously qualified people on t3H INTARW3BZ!!!!!!1shift+1 is the best thing to do. Well I'm sorry I doubted you Dr. Phill, obviously you hold the answers for all the kids on this forum that are thinking of downing bleach instead actually talking to someone that cares about them some more. Now if this was a general advice thread, there'd be nothing to worry about. Unfortunately there are far to many emo gamer posts for it to be considered. but hey I'm finshed giving "opinions". I think I'll just stick around to remind some of the kids to cut themselves just a little bit more, and maybe turn up that Simple Plan.
Well third world countries aside, the United States has a majority of the highest mortality rates as a result of obescity and cancer alone. There are a lot more deaths per capita in the United States from Breast Cancer than in countries like Japan. On to the topic. It's difficult to ignore the issue of the death penalty of a country that prides itself in mixing religion with state. You'd think a very moral and Christian establishment would find another way to turn the other cheek and work towards bettering the person as opposed to just judging them unfit to no longer live. I find it most ironic that it occurs mostly in the states that constantly love to yam the bible and Christ down other people's throats. I think they completely miss the message they think they're believing in. In fact they bloody well contradict themselves. You can't have Chirst and kill your neighbour too. And then if you really want contradiction you're opposed to destroying an embryo, whose "life" is willingly open to debate, yet you approve of killing criminals. Yes, you could say that the person on death row made a conscious decision and chose to commit the crime and so deserves to die. But a life is still a life no? It should not be up to an establishment that believes in morality and right to life to take that very same life from another. And there's no difference. Some people seem to have claimed that every embryo has a purpose, so what if we found out that a couple hundred being aborted were going to one day become malcious serial killers? Would it then be alright to abort them? You're asking for a double standard, and bringing religion into the matter just ends up screwing you over even more.
Well that's called a one-night stand, and most people don't go to the authorities regarding their sex life. They go because they were forced into a room either with threats or a weapon and forced to engage in non-consentual intercourse. Women know the difference and it isn't too hard to spot a very scared woman who has been raped, especially since there are evident physical sign, both on the victim's body and genitals. So in essence it doesn't take a "long time" to figure out, it's usually like diagnosing a stroke-- there are visual signs, and the person is able to explain them. On another note, as I stated earlier, abortion isn't about women looking for an easy way out of the consequences of casual sex. If a woman is engaging in casual sex she'll most likely be on the pill and her sexual partners will more often than not use a condom. To do any otherwise would just be stupid, and as you said Karma would take its course. The abortion I condone isn't some kind of drive thru where "Johnny and Jenny Unwanted" are just sucked out without a second thought-- that's just wrong and immoral. What I do believe in is a system that is designed for people who are in a serious situation in which a child simply can't be cared for and nutured through pregnancy. Yes there's always the possiblity of adoption, but such things don't always go well for the child. More importantly there are cases where rape results i na pregnancy. I've said my peace on that already.
The interesting thing about the bible is, is that the largest part that goes in depth on the devil, etc. (Revelations) is just an allegorical reference to the Roman Empire. John wasn't even the writer's real name. Anyway, it seems rather hard for me to accept, even if such a thing exists, a being that is omni-benevolent, omnipotent, all-loving, and omniscient, especially if we're going by the bible's standards. God seems very irrational in my opinion. The only thing I ever really liked out of Christianity was Jesus, he was cool and gave everyone the real answer to end all suffering in life: just be cool with each other and spread the love. It's a pity very few people actually listened to him. Christ had it down, but the prganization of it all just screwed with the ideals. I'll take the here and now over any uncertain place any day.
You're aware that rape is more common than armed robbery no?
That's cool that you brought that up Bunt, afterall astronauts train in simulators to increase reaction time, dexterity, and alertness for real shuttle launches. As for other cases, like Counter-Strike being blamed for the Columbine and Virginia Tech disasters, saying that playing a video game was responsible is highly dubious.
You do have a point, different parts are more active at different times. But from a functional aspect it makes sense that we can't access certain parts when we want to. Sure it would be cool to sit on the bus and be able to slip into a dream while being awake, but from an evolutionary point of view it wouldn't do very much for us. sure it might be pleasurable, but it would deter us from our surroundings and confuse our sensory and perceptive capabilities.
I think you might have that confused. The more a government does for its people, the more they prosper. Sure reform programs can be considered a big hassle, but not financial aid, or shelters for the homeless. They tend to work wonders for community. A government that neglects its people is like a man that saws off his own legs just so he can have something to eat. I would also have to disagree with your take on human nature. Yes it is in us to survive, but not to kill. We may be able to meet such a capacity if the situation requires it, but if killing was built into our design then why do we learn empathy, or compassion. It's because we learn violence just as much as we learn anything else. From an evolutionary standpoint, we kill because we learnt that it helped us to get food. Now people kill for sport or punishment. I'd say we've pretty much surpassed the aspect of killing for survival (self-defense aside). I'd also like to add that on average the wait for surgery in Canada is the same as it is in America. The medical proceedures are exactly the same as well. The only difference is that the poor, immigrants and other miniorities have equal rights to it. I don't mean to judge, but it seems a hell of a lot better when everyone can get the same proceedure as opposed to just a few that have the ability to fork over the big bucks to do so. America could easily do this with a defense budget that extends into the hundreds of billions of dollars. Heck it would only take a few billion, and everyone would benefit not just the elite. But I guess that's the problem.
They can definitely stimulate the imagination and can have profound effects on your creative ability, but they don't mess with your mind. On a physical level, the framerate of a video game is no different from that of a television, so nothing is degraded or damaged by playing a video game-- stimulated yes, but not damaged. With regards to making people more violent or to lose touch with reality, it has to deal with how much was invested into teaching a person at a very young age that there is a difference between reality and make-believe. If a child isn't taught the difference then any media can become "mind-warping" to them if used excessively.
