Sora nodded, exhaling a breath of relief when Kairi made that promise to him. Promises used to be very important to the two of them, and he hoped that hadn't changed over the past few months. He had a feeling that Kairi would keep this promise, though, so that made him become less tense at that moment.

"There are times when I wish I didn't know what I went through in the past four months," Sora confessed, looking down at the ground. "Trust me; it's better if you don't know." Even if this meant that he could never open up to her about what happened, it was worth it as long as she was happy. When it came to the two of them, she was always more important.

Sora shook his head, turning his gaze forward when he heard Kairi's confession. "I'm not trying to scare you, Kai," he said softly, his voice gentler now. "I'm trying to protect you." She didn't need to know about Castle Oblivion or the part of the Christmas Town story that he hadn't told. It was better that she was kept in the dark on all the serious stuff that occurred.

Sora kept his eyes on Kairi, seeing her nod. Still, that wasn't enough assurance for him--he needed to know that she would never bring any of this up again. "I need you to do something for me," he started softly, his eyes showing his seriousness. "I need you to promise me that you will never ask me about what happened while I was gone." If she or Roxas or even Namine found out more about what happened and how severely it changed him, he didn't know what he would do.

Sora turned his head towards Kairi, opening his eyes completely when he looked at her. "But I'm not going to talk about any of that," he declared. "Ever." And if ever would have, he wouldn't have spoken to Kairi about it; it wasn't her job to carry his burdens.

"And that was just one day," Sora said softly, opening his eyes halfway as he looked down at the ground. "It wasn't the worst thing I experienced." Coming so close to death was scary, but that wasn't even what had him shaken up over the whole thing. It was the illusion Heartless and how their mind tricks forced him to see that illusion--the one that he still wouldn't put into words because he was so ashamed.

Sora exhaled a soft breath, keeping his eyes shut as he allowed Kairi to rub his back. "Nobody was supposed to know about that," he murmured softly, his voice reflecting his sadness. Though they didn't know the full story, they knew much more than Sora was comfortable with. He would do anything to go back in time and take back going to Roxas's house if he could, but he knew that wasn't a possibility.

Sora was thankful for one thing: he hadn't told Roxas in depth what the Heartless were or how they manifested themselves. That was something he would always keep to himself, no matter what. He wouldn't talk about it any other time except for maybe today...if he could find words to speak.

Sora felt how Kairi's hand ran over his back, and he also felt how stiff he was compared to the light motion. He felt some of his resistance melt away, the brunet softening because of Kairi's gentle motion. It was true that she and Roxas had brought up a lot of pain, but despite that, Sora realized how badly he needed her to help him as he sorted out everything from that day.

Sora slowly lowered his hands, his eyes staying shut as he felt Kairi's hand on his back. Please keep your hand there, he mentally pleaded, the brunet needing to feel somebody there with him, supporting him. He had done everything he could to keep the Christmas Town incident hidden, but now that it was in the open, he didn't know what to do.

Sora had his elbows on his knees, the teen lifting his hands and hiding his face in them. I'm a mess, he realized, shoulders slumping at the thought. This was all too overwhelming for him, and he didn't even care that he was having a mental breakdown in front of Kairi now. In some strange way, it felt good to not be alone during this.
