Well here's how the hook up goes:
Your capture device will go into the USB port on your computer.
The composite cables attached to your game system plug into the capture device.
So you've got a direct connection from your game system to your computer. From there you can record and do whatever. But if you're looking to capture gameplay, you need to be playing the game, right? So the wires and splitters will let you record to your computer while also allowing you to play on your television.
So when I do it, I plug the male end of the splitter into my capture card, and plug my Playstation's composite cables into one of the female ports of each splitter. Then in the open port of the splitter, I plug in my extra set of composite cables, which also go to the television.
