That wasn't a reassuring response, but at least it wasn't a direct no. Iris was aware she may have let her beliefs get the better of her and needed to reevaluate her pitch if the matter was to be discussed again. for the meantime she just motioned towards Dr. Carmichael for a notepad and then quickly jotted down her number, before rising out of her seat and leaning over the desk, producing the note.
"Of course Lord-Marshall, I hope that next time we talk I find you in good health." Iris placed the note on the desk before him "Here's my personal telephone number for when you come to a decision or if you wish to discuss anything at all. Thank you for this opportunity your lordship. I shall leave you to your business. Good day" She then curtsied and left with Carmichael in tow.

Iris was acutely aware that she had dinner plans right after the meeting and was glad she scheduled in a bit more time as the trip there was going to take a while. She got the carriage to drop her off at her townhouse before it headed back to Avant with Dr. Carmichael. The home was quite modest for someone of her wealth, but was at the same time decidedly upperclass. It possessed a garden which was rare this far into the city and was enclosed by a tall metal fence with trees skirting the edge, this both kept out intruders and made the city seem that little bit more distant from inside the grounds. The house itself was two stories high with loft space and a basement as well. Two large bay windows stood either side of the door and a three story tower with a cupola dominated one corner of the building. There was a decked porch around the front of the house and a caged in balcony wrapped itself around the first floor to a green house around the back. Despite all the embellishment the house was no manor, being on a small inner city plot.

Iris made her way inside. This was merely a quick stop to get changed, she needed to move fast to meet with Julia on time and she couldn't be seen dead in that part of town in her current attire; more precisely she would be found dead. Iris rushed up the stairs giving a brief wave to Spencer. A polished white golem who possessed gold filigree inlaid into his gleaming surface. He kept the house in order and tipped his bowler hat in response as Iris passed by. Within ten minutes Iris came back down the stairs barely recognisable from her former self. Her hair was bedraggled and draped uncombed from her head, she wore simple rags with wraps partially up her right arm and completely covering the augment on her left. She finished the look off with a paperboy's cap.

"I shall make certain to purchase some delousing powder whilst you are out and please stay in the greenhouse until you have been properly sanitised this time. You cannot demand all white furnishings and then traipse mud into the house, they'll never be truly clean again. I had to throw the reception room cabinet out last week, I couldn't bear to look at it anymore." Spencer's tone gradually grew more neurotic as he began to dust a vase within an inch of it's life.
"I wondered where that had got to, please consult me before throwing out furniture next time" Iris starkly exclaimed
"Duly noted, but M'lady you're doing it again, people will notice you speaking like that"
"Ah...yes, well thank yo-" Iris stopped mid-sentence "thanks for pointing that out, I will see you later" She quickly adjusted her lexicon, but the more observant onlooker would see through her slightly exaggerated body language. Iris then pivoted around and headed for the back entrance where there was a more secluded exit onto the street.
"Remember. Greenhouse" Spencer called after her.
"Got it" and with that she headed on her way to the east side of Eredan.

Iris was not expecting this to be an easy sell. She had hoped the Lord-Marshall was a progressive man and it was clear he was in fact open minded, but he still held the apprehension that so many had against augmentations. A mute point in Iris' mind, it was clear that augments were the future of the human condition. However as a businesswoman she had to pander to her clientele and so those concerns needed to be addressed. "You must understand that these augmentations are weapons and armour combined, they are much more than simple gadgets, they are human empowerment. The offer is to provide these services to those who wish to use them, I do not suggest you force your men to become augmented, just that they are aware they have this option. I understand there is some prejudice against augmentations at the moment, but they are the future. Staying ahead of the times is how you win. Although viewed as controversial now, in time people will come to realise that this was a turning point in history. Within ten to twenty years augmented police forces will be the norm. If you make this deal today the Eredan constabulary will become the forefront of modern policing, a shining example for the world to follow."

The Lord-Marshall agreed to the meeting, Iris knew he would, her experience told her that. As she was led through the constabulary she motioned for Dr. Carmichael to follow with the case. They were led to a nicely furnished office on the top floor which clearly belonged to the Lord-Marshall.
"Please, take a seat" he said motioning to a plush chair across from him. Iris gracefully crossed the room and sat down, thanking the Lord-Marshall, after informing Carmichael to unload the case.
"As we had discussed in the lobby, this force is severely under equipped to deal with the growing audacity of crime in this city. However I have for you a proposal which, if you accept, shall change the face of modern policing. Dr. Carmichael, if you'd so gladly" The doctor lay down the range of augments on the desk after getting a brief nod of consent from the Lord-Marshall. "We have been developing a range of clockwork augments designed specifically to suit the forces needs. The augments you see before you are just the first. This arm augment will allow for case specific load out modification, as you can see here..." Iris motioned to the point where an arm mounted gun attached to the forearm "...the augment employs a rail system which allows for attachments to be swapped out to suit your needs as well as granting the user increased strength. This second piece is fitted along the collar bone and when activated..." Iris pressed a button on the augment making a ring of metal suddenly telescope up "...will protect the wearers face from any incoming attack. This display model utilises a button, but the final product will be linked to the wearer allowing them to deploy it quickly in times of need. The final augmentation we have brought to you today is a leg prosthetic, developed from Advent's high-end range of fluid and precise augmentations. The gyroscopic system employed here gives the owner advanced motor control and precision allowing for great feats of agility on top of the standard benefit of not losing stamina whilst running. I believe a member of your force, Jebediah Crowne if I remember rightly, came to us to purchase the older design of this augmentation a while ago and if the local news is correct it has made him extremely efficient at chasing down criminals. With all that considered I would like to extend to you a supply deal with Advent. We can provide the Constabulary with these and many more future augmentations at a severely reduced price, fitting included of course, and all we ask for in return is that you come to us when in need of these tools. Imagine a super-human Constabulary capable of tackling any threat with a vast array of tools at their disposal. The public rallying behind a bastion of hope which made them feel safe, which had the strength to protect them. This Lord-Marshall Hogfeld is what I offer you."

"Yes, but I suppose that's to be expected in the Eastern districts." The Lord Marshall said. The eastern districts were poor and poverty brewed crime, not to mention the fact that the constabularies tarnished reputation did very little to put off potential criminals. "We've tried to enforce some sort of order there, but evidently we've been mostly unsucessful. We visited the Steiner Institute on our way back, so I have been patched up and am feeling much better now, thank you" As dire as the news was Iris saw an opportunity here, these events were a direct example of why the force could use her proposal. "Lord-Marshall, it is a dire shame that this is the state of things. The constabulary need to have the proper tools available to tackle these threats, to assure the people of their safety, and so far these have not been offered to them. In fact the reason I visited today was for the purposes of offering the force such a tool. It appears the officer I came to talk to is busy, but you are the man in charge, if there's anyone I should discuss this with, it is you. If you could lend me your time for just a few minutes I'm sure you will not be disappointed." Iris said with elegance, each word perfectly timed and accentuated. Her words were genuine, but Iris knew how to work people, she was priming the Lord-Marshall for the potential meeting, making him feel like he needed what she had to offer before he even knew what it was.

Just as Iris requested to meet another administrator, a large man with a moustache came in flanked by two officers. Iris recognised him as Lord-Marshall Harvey Hogfeld, they'd briefly met at a few city dinners, but had no more interaction than a handshake and introduction. He looked particularly flustered and the state of his uniform suggested he'd recently been in a fight. One of the officers went to the receptionist and although he spoke quietly, Iris overheard him mention that their carriage had been attacked on their way back from a meeting with Lord Mortimer Gallahowe.

    Of course Gallahowe was involved
Iris thought, although she never publicly admitted it, she never liked the man. His perfect smile, the way he pranced around like he owned the place, Iris couldn't stand it and she knew he couldn't stand her either. They kept up an appearance of civility for the public image, but it wouldn't take an eagle eyed reporter to see through their fake compliments and forced grins when around one another. Their distaste for one another went back years and had many reasons, but as much as Iris wouldn't accept it, it was in some part due to her jealousy.

As much as she would have liked to instigate Gallahowe in this, Iris couldn't go throwing around allegations, especially to the Lord-Marshall. These police officers had just been attacked in broad daylight, it was shocking how confident the criminals in this city had become and Iris could offer at least a partial solution. But business could wait, first she needed to check if they were alright.

Iris turned to the Lord Marshall and said in her soft voice "Oh my! are you quite alright? I overheard what happened, the audacity of those..." she paused thinking how best to describe the assailants "...those brutes"

"...You can wait here if you want, or speak to one of our other administrative officers?" The receptionist finished.
It would of been easier if Officer Rochester was available, but it could be understood; being an officer meant she might be called out at any moment.
Iris looked at the underside of her left wrist and two panels folded away neatly to reveal a circular recess in which was a watch. The thin dainty hands displayed that it was just past noon and, not wishing to disrupt her schedule, Iris figured a meeting with another administrator would be just as beneficial. Besides she had little patience to wait in the reception when good work could be getting done.
"This an important proposal that could provide many benefits to the force, would it please be possible to find another administrator who could give us their time?" She replied sweetly, but with a touch of insistence.

    "Good morning Miss Hyden"
"And a fine morning it is Arabella" Iris replied to her secretary who was waiting in the lobby when she arrived. The Avant building was a sleek, square building raising 10 stories into the sky. It was a piece of cutting edge art-deco architecture adorned with many windows and a large luminous sign upon the roofs edge. The lobby consumed most of the first and second floor. A spacious, white atrium adorned in gold with a balcony encircling it on the second floor and a Brass mural to human enhancement upon the back wall. Arabella stood, as she always did in the morning, near the reception desk. Dressed in her navy blue suit and brandishing a clip board. She looked out with her glassy augmented eyes, set just below a porcelain-like implant upon her forehead which dipped from the corners, meeting just above the centre of her brow. The augmentations were some of the best Avant had to offer, a benefit that all Iris' staff enjoyed.
"I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long" Iris continued as they made their way to one of the three shuttered lifts at the back of the lobby.
    "No, not at all Miss"
"So give me the run down, what are we dealing with today?"

As they proceeded up the lift towards Iris' office on the top floor, Arabella rattled off yesterdays reports not looking once at the clipboard, for her augments granted her an eidetic memory. A few items Iris took note of was the fact that augmentation sales to the middle class had risen since Avant had introduced their budget range, Kerrington technologies were filing for more augmentation patents and the company would need to move quickly to stay in the running and finally the marketing department were complaining about getting their budget cut.
    To this she replied
"Well when they start getting results, I'll consider upping their funding, how much does it cost to draw things?"

Eventually the pair departed the lift onto the top floor. Here resided
Arabella's office which lead into Iris' office on the right and a boardroom on the left. This room, adorned in elegant baroque-style furnishings, served as an executive lobby, the walls being lined with sofas and adorned with various pieces of artwork Iris had commissioned to represent the bond between humanity and technology that augments provide. They ranged from portraits to more abstract pieces and in her opinion were quite thought provoking.
"Your chosen papers are on your desk alongside all the reports for you to review." Arabella said walking behind her desk "Also you have a meeting with the constabulary in a few hours and your scheduled in for lunch with Juliet straight afterwards. After that your calendars free, but the research labs would like your input on project dream-state."
"Thank you Arabella. Can you call Dr. Carmichael to inform him I'll be heading down to do the final tests on those constabulary augments, we completed last night, once I've settled in?"
    "Will do miss"
    "Thanks"

    With that
Iris entered her office. It shared the baroque style of Arabella's but as opposed to the dark grey walls of hers, Iris' had light cream wallpaper and was made even lighter by the large window that ran along the back wall. The room ran the width of the building, overlooking the canal towards the house of music. and was split down the middle by a partition which when folded out looked no different than a normal wall. In this half sat her office space and in the other half was a workshop where she'd often tinker when not attending to duties downstairs. Iris sat at her desk and scanned through the morning papers. The Westwood Informer had a story about the completion of Saviour Spire on the front page, she thought it was quite an amazing building to be certain, Avant was testament to her fondness of modern architecture. They also covered an article on the events currently going on in the ministry, Draycaster was still under fire from opposition, Iris hoped that her situation may improve as she was one of the best politicians this city had seen. Oddly there was also an advert for a private investigation agency, a peculiar thing to appear on the front page of an elitist paper such as the Informer. The Gallows Gazette had much the same to report but everything was spun the other way and then the smaller local papers all had their little titbits on city life. Turning to the pile of reports on her right Iris sighed and decided it could wait. This constabulary deal required all her attention at the moment, it could really aid the companies public standing as well as provide citizens with the protection they needed.

With that she went over to her workshop and unlocked a large cabinet, inside there were a number of shelves only one of which currently held anything. Two metal cylinders, about the length between an outstretched index finger and thumb, sat on stands on the top shelf. Each had a glowing crystal held inside.
Iris took the one on the left which glowed with a fluctuating clear aura, that seemed to distort everything, and raised her left arm. Two panels, which were almost seamless, folded out wing-like from her forearm and she inserted the crystal into the opening. Closing the augment she then made her way to the lift and down to the workshop floor.

Iris' meeting with Dr Carmichael was brief, they had a quick look over the new blue and gunmetal grey augments they had designed to pitch to the constabulary. The augments consisted of a sleek, yet functional arm augmentation, which could have alterations made to allow for additional armour, wrist mounted weapons or other tactical benefits; an augmentation fitted to the collar bone which could quickly extend a collapsed piece of metal up around the users face to protect from attack and leg augmentations which utilised top of the line gyroscopic mechanisms to provide enhanced agility. With these in tow Iris and Carmichael made their way to her carriage where they began their trip across the city to the constabulary headquarters. On the way Iris considered whether she should buy a motor car and decided that this afternoon she would check her accounts and look over possible options.

Eventually the carriage parked up in the square outside North Constable Station where the grand statue of General Talon Austermark loomed over. A symbol of justice through the law, the irony being that he was executed at the hand of that same system.
Dr. Carmichael helped carry the suitcase of augments into the building where they were met by a receptionist.
"Iris Hyden, nice to make your acquaintance." Iris said with a smile "We're here for a meeting concerning a potential supply deal, I'd arranged it on the telephone with a Lynda Rochester."

    Name: Iris Hyden

    Age: 38

    Race: Human

    Nationality: New Havenite

    Faction: Independent

    Job: Chairwoman of Avant

Appearance: Iris possesses a wavy blond bob tinged pink at the ends due to her New Haven heritage. She looks about 5 years younger than her age although there is speculation this is due to facial surgery. Iris often wears light coloured clothing reminiscent of pre-revolutionary France, but with a steampunk/Victorian twist. Her common look is this

Weapons: Being an affluent businesswoman and concerned for her own safety, Iris always carries a small revolver on her person for self defence.

Magic: Iris does not possess any natural capability herself, but utilises a procedure to create crystal cylinders which can be used alongside her augmentations to cast magic. The crystal cylinders consist of a mana crystal, with magic stored inside, inserted into a metal cylinder which has data inscribed upon it, which informs her augments how to use the magic. The mana crystals run out of charge after so many uses

So far Iris has produced two crystal cylinders.
The first contains metamagic allowing her to create a field around her at a 2m radius which disables magical effects.
The second crystal contains air magic, which allows her to draw electricity from exterior sources, such as a light fixture, and then project it either as a weapon or to power an electrical device.

Religion: Iris Is a casual follower of the Lady of the Mist

Augments: Iris Possesses an augmented left arm. The arm looks like that of a porcelain doll, made out of seamless segments, with gold filigree. A portion of the lower arm can open up to allow for crystal cylinders to be inserted. When inserted the arm can read the data inscribed on the cylinder and utilise the magic stored in the crystal to allow for the magic type stored in the crystal to be cast.

Skills and Strengths: Iris is skilled in magical sciences and augmentations. She is a ruthlessly adept businesswoman and a philanthropist, often publicly seen giving poor disabled people free augmentations among other humanitarian actions. Alongside this she’s a strong public speaker

Personality: Iris is a very strong willed person, who insures that things get done exactly as she wants them, she lives a fast paced lifestyle, but always seems to be on top of things. She believes wholeheartedly in the improvement of the human condition through augmentation. She may come across as a stiff upper lipped aristocrat sometimes, but she never forgets her humble roots and empathises with the lower class of Eredan. She speaks concisely, with grace and eloquence.

Flaws/Weaknesses: Iris’ ruthlessness can get her on the wrong side of both her competitors and employees as she constantly pushes for better results. What Iris possesses in mind and speech she lacks in physical acumen and so often performs her actions from behind the scenes to avoid direct risk to herself.

    History:
Iris was born in 2049 in the city of New Haven to a lower class single mother. Iris’ mother was a drunkard who would often leave her alone in the house whilst she went off and hooked up with men at the the local Frostfire club. Due to this she learnt to be fiercely independent from a young age and chooses to never drink alcohol. One day whilst Iris had broken out to go to the market she came across a man who possessed an augmented hand which was a rare occurrence at the time. This piqued her interest and she asked the man all about it, discovering that he had had it made for him by a great scientist in Varewyn. She vowed that she would one day go to Varewyn and meet this scientist.

When Iris was 14 her mother had only become worse, no longer having the money to fuel her habit and driving them into debt. With her mother unwilling to do anything about it, Iris ran away to Varewyn, promising that one day she would return with the money to rebuild her mother’s life.

Iris had aspired to find a job as an apprentice in Varewyn, but due to the cities elitist tendencies, she found it near nigh impossible to get any work at all. She finally got work delivering papers for the Westwood Informer and used it to get friendly with some of the cities inventors who she would deliver to. Eventually one inventor, who took note in her interest with augments, offered her a chance to make that interest into something more. It was under this scientists tutelage that she created her first augmented arm. She had her arm amputated and then fitted the implant herself. It had a primitive wireframe appearance, but possessed fine motor skills that were on par with some of the best in the industry at the time. Iris excelled at the work and the scientist kept her on until they became aware that Iris had clearly surpassed their own ability. At this stage they suggested Iris should attempt to start up her own business.

Iris returned home to New Haven to find her mother, but after extensive searching she discovered she’d died only a few months ago on the streets. Iris funnelled her grief into her work and began forming plans for her new business. Iris was aware that the industry in Varewyn for inventions was far too saturated and so she seeked to start her business somewhere fresh where she’d be noticed more. The city of Eredan was the seat of power in Southern Tyrrus and was the home of cultural progress. If she wanted to make a big impact it would be the city for her and so Avant was born out of a small shop near the post office. At her new shop she improved her arm giving it the sleek appearance it has today, she constantly upgraded it to the latest spec after this point, using it as a sort of example of her best work for potential clients.

At first the shop was just her doing any work she could get, but soon business grew. Being one of the few businesses offering augmentations at the time, it wasn’t long before Iris could employ new hands to help expand her business. By the year 2077 Avant had relocated to a new high-rise building and was beginning to get major acclaim. It was around this time that Iris began her humanitarian work to help raise the living conditions of the poorest people in the city. She set up the Hyden Trust to raise money for charity work across the city, one of it’s most notable campaigns being providing free augmentations to disabled people. Up until the present day Iris has mingled with the upper class of Eredan alongside advancing the field of cybernetics and taking public actions to improve the lives of the people. About a year ago Iris began the development of the tech required to allow her arm to cast magic. It’s been a long process, but last month she finally perfected the crystal cylinder procedure.

After meeting back up with Kellan, the group were given the choice to either go and fight more of these burning blade thugs or try their hands at some passcode, which if they got wrong, would see them crushed by a golem. Badun did not wish to get into anymore fights and figured that his wit was sharper than his aim. The passcode route seemed the best option. "I best agree with Roric on this one, I wish to avoid anymore bloodshed after how that last fight went" he declared to the group. whatever the case, he thought, we better get moving soon otherwise I'm gonna begin getting impatient.

It was time to begin the fight. Lyra raised her left hand from the hilt of her sword and raised it before her. She thought of the destruction the drakes had wrought, the lives lost and the thousands made homeless, boiling up all that emotion into a simmering rage; one she knew too well. Lyra felt the pressure in her chest the familiar feeling of her magic building, channeled by her rage. All this had happened in a moment as she thrust her hand forth. The rage turning to searing heat as it left her palms scorching the ground before the forge. Hopefully the burning square of earth would draw the drakes out and then Lyra and the others would cut the infernal lizards down. The rage had not left Lyra, but that's the way she liked it. She fought angry.

Lyra held the hilt of her longsword as she spoke, drawing it from it's scabbard and resting the tip of it's blade on the ground before her, what ever move they were going to make, it was time to make it.

With the doctor ever so,.. uh, gallantly jumping to protect him, Badun didn't see the point of risking his own health in the fight just passed. He also was beginning to wonder whether he had been wrong about the monetary value in this endeavor, however he was not completely lacking in patience and figured it was merely a matter of time. Badun needed to start making allies, something he currently wasn't doing. He approached the large man, Baldomar, he'd seen him in action and knew he was a ruthless killer, but he seemed manipulable enough. "Good fighting back there my friend, I understand you're familiar with our compatriot, Kellan. What sort of a man is he?"[DOUBLEPOST=1461101436][/DOUBLEPOST][IMG]

Lyra had gone with Ulrich and Sebastian, to go and fend off the Drake infestation, that's what she was here for in the first place. They had decided to fend off the fire drakes at the armory, a wise decision as it would allow them to arm further troops. Fire was Lyra's element, she would have no issues dealing with it. She was less confident about Sebastian and Ulrich though, she didn't know them at all and figured it was high time she became acquainted.
"Ulrich, may I ask how you came to acquire that arm? It's really quite remarkable" She said, knowing that the subject might be a matter of contention she readied herself to respond politely if she had in fact pushed upon an uncomfortable subject.

The drakes had set Fordington ablaze. The towns rooftops danced with flames and the survivors gathered refuge on the outskirts. Lyra had long awaited this mission, but in the face of the towns suffering she felt slightly unnerved. Nonetheless they were here to end this destruction. Lyra painted her face with confidence, placing her hand upon her sword pommel. Inside she was a mixture of anger and fear, but she suppressed it for now. Lyra began down the road into the blazing populace, calling back to the group to see if anyone was going to join her, she was not afraid of fire, having wielded it for a large part of her life and she would, if needs be, fight these drakes single handed, but the group had come to save this town and she was not going to turn down help if offered.

Badun heard the sounds of steal of steal on teeth, the cries of men and the growling of wolves. He swiveled round, two flintlocks held out ready to tear through the nearest wolves hide, but to his surprise the fight was over. He let of a shot at the wolf that was attempting to flee, but it was halfheartedly and likely to miss. Badun was not on his A game today. He sighed and made his way over to the main group, who were surrounding some man who must have got caught off guard by the snarling creatures. Slotting himself into the back of the group, Badun tried not to draw attention after he'd completely failed his attempt to impress them. Showing up right after the battle was never deemed very honorable, not to suggest Badun was indeed honorable, but that was the appearance he was trying to emulate.

Badun had ended up lagging behind the group and this lack of attention was uncharacteristic. He mentally cursed himself as he tottered up the road, heading toward the sounds of conflict in the distance. Being a mere businessman Badun had no desire for battle, but he suspected that valiant acts in combat was the kind of currency his new companions dealt in. His flintlocks had got him out of a few scrapes before, but now would be the time to wield them in the face of true danger. He heard wolves howling up ahead, of course it was blimin' wolves, can't walk a mile without running into one in this country, well at least his guns should make short work of them. Knowing himself to be almost upon the battlefield, Badun halted and concealed himself, keeping an eye on the conflict at hand, he would choose just the right moment to strike; Just the right moment to show off his prowess, to appear to be a strong and noble companion. Badun drew one of his flintlocks, ensured the barrel was loaded and cocked the hammer, he proceeded this process with the second and then the third leaving it uncocked to avoid blowing his own trouser leg off. Then he drew up the two readied pistols and with a quick glance round the tree, behind which he took cover, awaited his moment[DOUBLEPOST=1457306074][/DOUBLEPOST][IMG]

Lyra awoke contented, sun rays shined in through the parting in the curtains and the wood of the inn hummed organically with the bustle of its patrons downstairs. Her happiness was short however as she started at the realisation that for the sun to be shining in through the windows of her room ,which lay on the west side of the inn, it would have to be the middle of the afternoon. Quickly Lyra gathered her items and pulled herself into her suit taking a brief breather to insure it's crisp lines had not been compromised by her rushed dressing. There was always time to tend to your appearance, not doing so was a sign of disorderliness and that was something not to be present in a lady. After haven clothed she rushed downstairs and queried the inn keep for the route to Fordington. and any news of her travelling companions including the complete liability that was
