A film that shows the world being dependant on OZ which handles pretty much everything, bank accounts, fighting arenas, casino's etc, one day Kenji Koiso, a part-timer and math wiz as he's findign it difficult to be with people, especially his crush, Natsuki Shinohara who has him pretend to be her boyfriend since she told her grandmother when she had an attack and lived.

Kenji solves a mathematical solution giving a program, Love Machine access to his account and potenially, hack into the mainframe and control the whole's worlds accounts, soon it spirals out of control and affects the real world creating a modern war.

Wabisuke, Natsuki's first crush also appears in the film as wlel as being the creator of Love Machine but after hearing of his adoptive grandmother dying by Love Machine's cause, he joins the Shinohara's to help destory it as it fires milssiles at every power plant in the world

Throughout this film, Kenji resolves to become a man and does so.

Personally, I enjoyed this film of it's artwork and transfering from teh OZ world to the Real World in as Funimation aqcuires the rights to dub this so I'll buy it.

    I love this movie!

When it comes to the story, it felt like that it was two different films into one. With one side of it, you get to see the amazing world of Oz. You see the challenge of destroying the AI known as Love Machine and why it must be destroyed. Right there, the idea of taking down an unstoppable internet virus, would've probably been a decent movie by itself. It's the other half of the movie that really gives it magic. When you see the first family dinner together, you feel as if you are apart of this family. This is where all the emotion is carried and where you get very invested into these characters.

I'm so glad that Funimation did the dub for this movie. Every voice for the character felt just right. When I heard familiar voices, I didn't think "Oh, I know who that it" like I do with some other animes. Everything felt nice and fluid. The best actor had to be Brittney Palencia as Natsuki, and to those who don't beleive that there could be a good English dub, I tell them to watch this film and feel this girl's intensity and that you are too picky and can't enjoy anything unless it's said in a cute Japanese voice. I haven't listened to the Japanese track, so I can't say anything about it (although I hear it's very good as well).

The best scene, to me is
the aftermath of the death of Granny. The center of their entire family had died, and you find out that it's the fault of one of their members. That alone makes the scene tough. It's deathly quiet until you see Natsuki and Kenji. The music picks up at the right moment and this is where Ms. Palencia should deserve some kind of award. The imagery was perfect, and I was brought to tears.

So this is a anime film? Or a series? Either way, it sounds really interesting. It kinda reminds me of .hack// where something on a computer happens and it begins to reverberate to the real world

Yeah, Summer Wars is a movie. Still, it's very good. It may not a full understanding of how exactly the internet really works, but that's just nitpicking. To me though, the real world stuff is a lot more interesting half way through the movie.

I saw that movie at the 2011 animazement convention in Raleigh. It was amazing with the suspense, the romance, and the action. My mind was blown out the water

I suppose you could call it that as it does work on the same princple.

And what Tummer says about the family, you feel like it's one where you easily just snap into place with each having their own persona as in Japan, they wanted to focus on family and show how important it can be but of course, it shows what might happen in the future if the Internet was misused and how much easier a war can break out.

I do own this film on DVD when I went to a convention way back in 2011 of May and love watching it switching from two different worlds but still vital to the other.
