As the cackling echoed throughout the Pokemon center, Melody awoke with a start. The creepy laughter made her shiver; it was otherworldly. It seemed to be the work of a ghost pokemon. That would be Joshua's department. She thought to herself. She then realized that she didn't remember going to sleep. As if on cue she noticed what had happened. She jumped to a standing position as she realized she had fallen asleep while sitting next to his own sleeping form; she had practically been sleeping on top of him. Thankfully, he hadn't woken up at her sudden movement. This thought was answered by Joshua's violet eyes snapping open quite suddenly. Melody nearly died of embarrassment, but Joshua's next comment revived her. "The Haunter seems to be having fun." Melody did an inward sigh of relief. "Um... Yeah." She stated simply. Joshua rose to a standing position. "I wonder..." He muttered. "Let's go see what it's up to."

 

A phantom of gaseous poison floating through the air, Haunter laughed as it watched Eve try to make any progress with the door. "Hauuunnnnteeerrrrr..." It phased in directly before the Eevee and gave it a good lick across the face with a noxious and slimy tongue. It's sharp eyes then turned to Topaz, mid-lick, and the jagged smile on its face grew wider. It picked up Eve with both of its free-floating hands before whisking the Pokemon away, down the corridor, and out of sight. It faded into darkness and stayed hidden; out of sight. In the dark crevice, it cackled evily to itself and stroked Eve with one of its hands.

Back where Haunter had been...
"Topaz, is that you and Eve out there?" Cyprus banged on the door, until it at last slammed open; Haunter was no longer there to keep him inside. "Topaz, you need to get out this area. We all need to evacuate the Pokemon Center. Haunter's tongue has sapping powers that fatigue the victim, and it will sometimes go on until the victim faints from exhaustion, or worse." He looked to the young girl. "Come now, we must join the others and try to figure out how to get out of here as quickly as possible."

Out on the airstrip...

"Aye, that I do, young miss. Peeko won quite a few of them, I owe it to her good name to say." Mr. Briney responded joyously to Amethyst. "Why do you ask?"

 

As he made his way down the corridor, Alex couldn't help but notice something fly past him. As surprised as he was, Flare was more scared as he hide behind his back. "Don't worry, it was probably just the wind." Yeah, sure the wind. Alex knew that wasn't the case, but was willing to say that to reassure his chimchar. Eventually he saw Professor Cyrus burst his way out of the door and hear his explanation. "There's a Haunter loose?" This was definitely bad. Not only was Flare too scared to leave his side, Alex knew from what some of his friends had told him that Normal Type attacks were useless against Ghost Types and both his pokemon right now knew only Normal Type moves. So long as I can say away from the haunter.

 

Equitas's footsteps echoed through the hallway as he ran to the source of disturbances. With the power being out for the moment, it was a bit difficult to see. Behind him, little footsteps could be heard barely keeping up to his rhythm. He turned as he ran, noticing his Squirtle struggling to keep up. Not wanting to lose him around the corner, he halted for a moment; keeping a joggers stride while he waited for his pokemon to finally catch up. "Squirtle squirtllllleee!!!!" his pokemon shouted, stopping right to him as he caught his breath. "Oh come on slow poke! Keep up!" he demanded. His squirtle looked up at him with a scowl. The pokemon began to motion with his arms exaggeratedly how running for him was frustrating him. Equitas looked back down the dark hallway. "Alright then." he uttered as he picked up his pokemon with both hands, and cradled him in his arms. He started dashing into the darkness. "Better?" he asked his pokemon in an attempt to quit his whining. "Squirtle!" his pokemon replied back with a satisfied smile as it held onto its trainer. The two looked onward into the darkness. He could hear the banging getting closer. Turning the corner, he just barely became witness to a ghost like entity spiriting away Topaz's pokemon. Equitas skidded his plimsolls against the floor as he stopped right in his tracks. The door adjacent to Topaz burst open revealing a frightened Professor. Cyrpus began to advice everyone the need for everyone to find a way out of the Pkemon center.

"Professor! W-we can't go back! Topaz's pokemon just got taken by a gh-ghost!" he shouted in horror, his squirtles eyes widened in comical terror.

 

Eve had been taken right from Topaz's hands. The pokemon screamed back yelling in its own language back at her. Topaz sat in shock as her best friend had now been taken away from her. The Haunter was not going to get away with this. Her fist clenched and a dark shade formed over her eyes. She wanted revenge. Her fear had taken that what was precious, she needed to fight it. She charged through, after the Haunter, blood boiling.

 

"Be that as it may, er Wait! Come back here!" Cyprus first spoke to Equitas before failing to catch a fleeing Topaz. "Topaz." He dashed after the girl, understanding her predicament; but he understood the dire situation more. She was gone; out of sight. Worse yet, he'd forgotten how to get back to the other students at that point... and the darkness was seeping in. That was when he felt its presence; Haunter was close, and he saw it at the same time he saw Topaz. Haunter did not seem to have Eve, but it seemed like the Gas Pokemon would soon have Topaz as well.

"Lucia!" Cyprus called for his absent Pokemon, hoping she would hear him in this situation. There was not much a Ghost-Type could do with a Normal-Type like Eevee, but the consequences would be much worse if Haunter managed to get at the young girl's life force. His cry was answered when a burst of bright light erupted from behind him; a fiery orb flew through the air and collided with Haunter, making it fade into the air. Cyprus knew the attack had not fainted the Haunter, but only caused it some distress... if Lucia couldn't 1HKO it, then they were dealing with a very strong Shiny Haunter. "Topaz, it's too dangerous here, follow me back to the others and we can figure out a way to save Eve, okay?" He hoped his appeasement would work; he couldn't just abandon a beloved Pokemon, and he wouldn't let that terror overrule him on his campus, and in his Pokemon Center.
