Final Fantasy 7: Before the Flight

This roleplay takes place one year before Crisis Core and it focuses on the lives of mainly the employees of Shinra. Though things weren't all well at Shinra because people were beginning to grow suspicious of the happenings at Shinra. Unexplained disappearances, especially in the vicinity of the Science sector were taking place and Shinra's actions as of late were highly questionable. At this point most of the Shinra employees decided to lay low and withhold their opinions about Shinra's wrongdoings in a attempt to keep their jobs at the company. With the growing pressures of rebels causing trouble and sour feelings towards Shinra among those living in the slums and outside of Midgar the focus of some within Shinra might began to change either for better or for worse.

Currently General Sephiroth and the other members of SOLDIER were being sent on many tricky and sometimes unnecessary missions that sometimes originated from the orders of the Science Sector which made those who served in the military a bit uneasy, though many usually shrugged it off as being one of the many quirks that the Science Sector was known for. Though not everyone was as passive and they began to look into what lurked in some of Shinra's deepest darkest secrets.

  Roleplay Requirements:
  
  • Before you join this rp you must have atleast some basic knowledge about the plot of FF7:Crisis Core and the Original FF7 Plot.
  • Your posts must at least be a minimum of 3 lines.
  • If you are going to take a cannon character you must at least have one OC character.
  • You must at least be active enough to stay caught up in this rp. Inactive roleplayers shouldn't be a part of this roleplay.
  • You don't have to use a special posting format or pretty graphic code when you make posts. But please claim a font color to code your character's posts with.

  • Even you are playing someone as strong as Sephiroth God-modding is not allowed.
  • Drama or negative behavior is to be kept out of the roleplay.
  • There will be no pre-existing romantic relationships at the start of the rp between a cannon character and a OC.
  • Please restrict spam or OOC conversation posts to the OOC/Recruit forum.
  • The RP is to be PG-13. Suggestive themes must be kept on a short leash.
  • Smoking, Cussing,Gambling,and Drinking is allowed.
  • If you for some reason cannot post for a amount of time please contact me before you go MIA.
  • If you don't post for more then 4 days a roleplay is allowed to move around you and on to something else.
  • If you have a important cannon character and you are inactive for a number of days then the character will be placed under another member's control.
  • Positions for a OC character with a first class SOLDIER rank are limited for newly joined roleplayers. Though you can be promoted to first class later on in the rp. Though members are always allowed to make a character who is 2nd or 3rd class SOLDIER.

  Character Rules:
  
  • If you claim a cannon character you must have a OC character as well.
  • You can have as many OCs as you want.
  • But are limited to only 3 cannon characters maximum.
  • If you are going to apply for cannon character you must make note of it in your join post and you must have a small sample of the way you rp using that character.
  • Your OC can be of any occupation as long as it's available and it is realistic in relevance to the FF7 plotline.

  1. -SOLDIER/ Shinra's elite mako infused group of warriors who sit at the top of the Shinra Military and are given special and complicated missions to complete. SOLDIER are classified into three ranks with first class being the strongest. First class SOLDIER aren't as numerous so there is a limit on how many can exist in the beginning in the rp. Though you are free to make a third or second class SOLDIER when you wish to. There are currently 4 positions open for first timers to make a character with a First Class Title. You are only allowed to grab 1 of these positions.
  2. -Science Department Employee/ Men and Women who work in Shinra's highly advanced Science Department. The Science Sector has been charged with the task of producing new technology and helping to better the company through scientific means. Their work focuses on bettering military personal, technology, heath practices, mako technology and more. Not all science personal have good intentions at Shinra, many are known to have malicious ideals.
  3. -The Turks/ A group of dark suited individuals who work as a type of secret service for Shinra. Their job is to run top secret espionage missions and complete Shinra's dirty work such as kidnappings ,gathering knowledge, assassinations, and spying.
  4. - The Infantry/ The numerous lower ranked military personal of who guard Shinra and work as the muscle in battles. They sometimes work alongside with SOLDIER and Turks as helping hands. Unlike SOLDIER they don't undergo Mako infusion surgeries.

  Weapons: He keeps a regular SOLDIER sword on his person at all times but his true skill is using guns and firing accuracy. Mercury is the military's best sniper and gunsman so he is usually called on when it comes to shoot outs and long range firing.
  Appearance: 6'1 feet tall. Dark red hair that has been roughly cut with the blade of a knife. His eyes are a mako tinted from the surgeries and his skin a warm sun kissed tan.Physical Appearance
  Personality: Mercury has a positive personality and he acts as the big brother type for many of the lower officers. He usually never has a frown on his face and hes always trying to help everyone out even if it means using aspects of country life to get his points across. Mercury has a slight southern accent which he has managed to keep throughout his years at Shinra and he has a obsession with Chocobos.
  Bio: Mercury is Io's childhood friend and before coming to Shinra after the terrible tragedy that had befallen his hometown of Zerra and everyone that he loved dearly Mercury was the son of a Chocobo rancher. Chocobo ranching is what Zerra was known for since it's land was so fertile and green. Mercury grew up raising chocobos and when the tragedy hit when he was only 8 years old he was devastated but he never stopped loving chocobos as if it seemed that chocobos reminded him of happy childhood memories back at the farm. When Mercury entered Shinra he started training for the military right away and never stopped, he used the training to help him pull through the tramua that he had experienced when he was younger. Now that he's in first class he spends most of his time acting as a mentor and a friend to others in the military.

  Bio: Nikolaj has been training to be SOLDIER his entire life. His cause, to pay for his very ill sister's medical bills, and to make sure he can protect not only his family, but the rest of Shin-ra. Nikolaj pushed himself harder than any man so that he could be strong. He has also been taught under Angeal himself when he was 15. Nikolaj always puts his honor as a First Class SOLDIER first.

  Weapons: Carries a sword that has a slightly curved blade and a silver hilt/handle. The blade is made out of carved black diamond that is finished with a fine smooth surface. Io carries a assortment of materia on her person and stores them within her vest at all times. She has hundreds of materia that she uses for everything from summons, spells, and healing.
  Appearance: 5'5 tall with long black hair and naturally infused mako eyes.
  Physical Appearance
  Personality: To strangers Io is a rather unfriendly, cruel, and bossy woman. She acts this way because she experienced a tough time rising up in the ranks of SOLDIER where females were scarce. Not only did she have to fend off those who disagreed with her progress but she also had to try harder emotionallyand physically to surpass others. Though even with all her hard work Io was still the lowest seat in first class with her friend Mercury and the others still farther above her. But to those who are close to her like her childhood friend Mercury Attrice Io is much more sweet tempered.
  Bio: Io comes from the city of Zerra which no longer exists as a result of a huge earthquake hitting the area that gave way to a landslide that crushed the tiny town and killed everyone beneath layers of muddy soil and debris. Io and Mercury were the sole survivors of the tragedy and when Shinra rescue forces entered the scene they were found outside of town in a state of shock. Io and Mercury were taken back to Shinra and raised from childhood. The two were separated when they were children, Mercury began combat training and Io was taken under the wing of Doctor Monika Theissenwiser who put the girl into schooling. When Mercury reached SOLDIER, Io felt that she would follow Mercury into the military while experiencing sexist behavior from her male peers and undergoing several years of brutal training. When she reached first class SOLDIER finally at the age of 17 her struggle to prove herself wasn't over for her personally so she continues to train and make herself stronger. Though even with having reached her goal Io hadn't fully relaxed, she was still mentally unstable for reasons beyond her struggles in the military. For some reason she felt as if something wasn't right with her and the fact she couldn't remember much of her childhood as well as her parents puts her off ease. As a result Io takes pills to disperse the anxiety and to help her sleep better at night because even her dreams weren't as peaceful.

  Weapons: Monika is not skilled when it comes to fighting though she keeps a handgun inside of her labcoat at all times.
  Appearance: 5'7 feet tall. Dark chestnut brown hair and one exposed salmon colored eye, the other eye is under a eyepatch. She wears a button up shirt, a pencil skirt, and leather heel boots.
  Personality: Monika is a calm and collected woman. Monika is a powerful and high opinionated woman.She is highly intelligent yet shes shes strong spoken and cruel in her line of work. Though when shes around Io she is much more soft spoken. Though Io doesn't see the stranger side of Monika which is unstable, sadistic, and psychotic. Monika has a strong german accent.
  Bio: Monika has been working at Shinra for nearly 24 years. Before she came to Shinra she was the daughter of a prestigious military General and she lived in a large upscale house on Midgar's top plate. Though her life wasn't as luxurious as one would have hoped. Indeed she grew up well off but her mother had been estranged eversince Monika was born. Her mother used to beat her and put her through all sorts of emotional abuse and her mother never got caught doing it since her father was always away at Shinra. When Monika finally graduated from Shinra academy at 15 with a degree in biological science and genetics Monika was offered a job at Shinra but her estranged mother was jealous and tried everything in her power to keep her daughter from taking on the job offer. When Monika's father died of a heart attack Monika went ahead and took on the job without her mother's consent. It wasn't long before Monika returned to see her mother who had become a hermit in her own house after her daughter had deserted her for two years. Monika murdered her mother after having a brutal tussle with her mother in the family home. After killing her mother Monika fled the house, ordering a accompanying turk to set the place aflame, later burning the entire mansion to the ground. Everyone assumed that Monika's mother had perished as result of the fire and didn't question the topic any further. Monika went on to excell through the ranks of the Science Sector till she became a powerful female board member on Shinra's highest panel of scientists. She now owns a large lab and health facility on the science floor where she runs a program called Isis which is Shinra's department for the health and wellfare for it's female employees. Monika has been a mother figure to Io since Io was only a eight year old girl. But for some reason now the two are drifting apart.
  Likes: Science, Mako, working with genetics and biochemistry. Likes to brag about Io as if she were her real daughter, even to the point where it makes Io feel awkward.

  Personality: Tends to be her own boss and refuses to let men walk all over her, which led her to lock away those useless emotions. Even though she's a woman, she is tough and not scared to fight when the time comes. She is also rather cold to Soldier.
  Bio: During the Wutai War, a raid had scattered throughout the small town of Nibelheim. Soldier arrived a few moments later and defeated the raid, but at a great cost. Along with the many casualties of the village, Ringo had lost her very young sister. She could never forgive herself or Soldier for not being there in time, so she vowed to protect the citizens of Shinra by becoming a Turk. Ringo is currently the top Turk along with Tseng.

  Bio:Hiari was born and raised in midgar. She and her twin brother lived a happy life until the day that tristan set off for infantry training. Hiari was sad to see her brother go. Over the years she grew into a beautiful young woman . She became fascinated with guns and fighting often shooting targets and sparing with her brother when he visited.One day when her brother was visiting he obtained a career ending injury leaving him paralized from the waist down. This was devistating to his family for that was the main incom. Hiari then made a desperate decision. She would return to shin ra in her brothers place. She took his sword, uniform and headed to shin ra. She had obtained contacts to disguise the fact that she did not have mako exposrure. She left a note behond saying she had eloped so that her family would not look for her. She currently still hides her gender which is extremely hard arround Tristans fewllow 1st classes.

Opening Post--

Deep into the Forest of the Ancients, the Shin-ra research team was being escorted through the thick brush of the old growth rain forest by members of SOLDIER and lower officers of the infantry so that the research team could gather up botanical samples. After five hours of traveling through the forest the group came to a stop near a forest clearing where a tall waterfall poured into a winding river that extended into the growth of the forest. Camp was set up and the scientists seemed to retreat to their tents to already begin testing the samples they gathered, leaving the SOLDIER to guard the camp and go about their own agendas. Men of the infantry and lower officers of SOLDIER had gone off to go swim and bath in the river. Mercury was polishing the machine gun he had brought with him with several other guns of all different types sprawled out on the ground at his feet. The only female SOLDIER on the trip, Io had gone off on her own since she wouldn't dare go near the river with all those men swimming in it. She had walked a short ways from the camp and now she had climbed up into a giant tree using only her hands and feet. Up in the tree she rested on a seat that was naturally formed from the thick vines that twisted up the trunk of the tree. From this point in the tree Io could see the blue sky between the trees which was rare to see anywhere in the forest since the canopy was so dense. " Now this is more like it ... finally I'm away from the three ring circus they call a caravan..." Io said as a small toucan-like bird landed on a branch near her and cleaned it's feathers with it's large beak.

 

Hiari was sitting on a rock nearby the camp. She had just finished making up an excuse not to go bathing with the other SOLDIER. She sighed. She wondered how long she could keep this up, hiding who she was. It had only been a few weeks but still, every day it was getting harder and harder to keep her ruise up.

 

Nikolaj came walking out of one of the tents, he glanced over at Mercury, "Well, it looks like the scientists are occupied... for the moment," he said. Suddenly, an Infantrymen came running up to Nikolaj, his weapon still in hand. He looked up at the SOLDIER and saluted, "I surveyed the perimeter sir, everything is in order," said the Infantryman. "Well done soldier," replied Nikolaj. "Now then, why don't you take a break with the others, we all need to take this opportunity to get some rest," he said with a smile. "Yes sir," replied the young man as he trotted away with a bit of his natural spikey blond hair sticking out from under his helmet. Nikolaj chuckled, "He was rather young, wouldn't you say Mercury," said Nikolaj as he sat down next to Mercury. Nikolaj let out a sigh and rubbed his neck.

 

Mercury chuckled as he tethered the machine gun back onto his hip and stood up while picking up his weapons. " Yes, they are getting younger with each year. Shin-Ra is getting the point where if they had to recruit a dog they would go ahead and do it if it means making their numbers larger. They have been advertising the dream of being a SOLDIER to youth everywhere. Almost every young boy now a days has a SOLDIER poster up in their room." Mercury said after he finished picking everything up. " Imagine if we were to have another war again... " Mercury said with a sigh.

Meanwhile in the canopy of a large tree, Io continued to rest in the forest growth that intertwined with the tree. Her eyes focused on a small toucan who looked interested at the sight of a human being. The toucan was spooked suddenly by something unseen in the tree and it flew off into the blue abyss of the sky. Io shrugged and was the least concerned about the bird's odd behavior.Io drifted off into a blissful sleep while in the tree to the wistful songs of rainforest birds. It was then that she felt something that felt like the soft fur of a cat rub against her shoulder. At first she thought it was just a monkey from the forest, but when it kept poking at her shoulder she quickly shot her eyes open and turned her gaze to the tree trunk she was resting against and thats when she saw a hairy spider the size of a dog staring down at her. At first it looked like Io was going to faint but then she erupted into a loud scream that could be heard all the way from the campsite and rolled off her perch on the tree which send her tumbling down the massive tree trunk as if it were a slide. She then fell into a bush that was at the foot of the tree and there she lay covered in forest debris

 

Nikolaj turned to the sound of the screaming as he got up, he put a hand on one of the swords on his back and turned to Mercury, "That scream sounds like Io," said Nikolaj with concern. "I'll go check it out, you stay here and guard the scientists Mercury." Nikolaj ran in the direction of the scream, staying focused as he ran among the greenery. He soon burst through the last part of the thick forest and came into a clearing. "Io, are you all right," Nokolaj said as he ran over to her to help her up.

At the same time...

The young Infantryman had been strolling peacefully above a waterfall until a loud piercing scream had flooded his head. "Owww, my head," he groaned as he dropped his weapon, putting his hands over his ears. He was caught off guard, and he slowly stumbled along the path totally disorientated. He then looked ahead to see a weird fire like creature slowly float towards him. He then realized that the strange creature was indeed a type of suicidal monster called a Bomb that would blow itself up in order to kill its opponent. He Immediately began running until the Bomb had blown itself up. The Impact of the Bomb soon sent the Infantryman, who was now unconscious, over the side of the 50 foot waterfall.

 

Mercury cringed when he heard he scream echo through the woods, he nearly dropped the rifle he was holding but managed to catch it by the strap and pull it up to his waist. " Something probably just startled her. If it was a monster she'd probably be busy fighting it then to scream... It could be one of two things, a spider or a naked man." Mercury said, acting a bit too calm and confident even when his childhood friend had screamed out in distress on the mountain. When Nikolaj left Mercury went ahead and started to build a fire while humming happily.

Meanwhile. . .

Io seemed to be frozen in the bush, still recovering a bit from the fall. When Nicolaj pulled her out her hair was puffed up and it was full of vegetation which made her look like a wild woman who had just come from the forest. " I-I'm fine. . . I j-just missed a step on the tree. Nothing to worry about." Io said as she quickly pulled all out of the leaves and sticks out of her hair while running her fingers through it to get the debris out.

 

Hiari rose a brow looking over at Mercury. She lowered her voice to the best of her ability. "You seem very calm for having just heard a blood curling scream" She gave a false manish chuckle before speaking again." you know the spiders here are as big as house cats...right?"

 

"Well, that's a relief," said Nikolaj with a smile. He looked up at the tree that he presumed Io had fallen out of. It was a fairly high tree, yet with closer inspection, Nikolaj saw the remains of a spider's web. He let out a chuckle. "First Class SOLDIER Io, did you get tangled up with a spider?" He looked at her and spoke, " Well, from the looks of it, it was pretty big," he said as he turned around. He began to walk back to camp until he came to a sudden stop. Nikolaj quickly moved, grabbing Io as he threw her on one of his shoulders. A giant spider had emerged from the shrubbery. It was at least five times bigger than the previous one, and Nikolaj had jumped out of the way just in time as the spider charged him. He landed on a branch and jumped from one to another. He set Io down on one of the high branches of a tree. "Better stay here," he said as he jumped back down. He looked at the spider as he put a hand on one of his swords.

 

" Yes I did get tangled up, it was touching me with it's nasty furry mitts !!" Io said as she shuddered and rubbed her hands over her arms as if she was trying to get clean. Io was shocked by Nicolaj's sudden decision to grab her and throw her over his shoulder. "Wait !! What are you doing ? I can walk you know !!" Io shouted but when she caught sight of the large spider heading their way her eyes widened and she cursed under her breath. " Holy mother of Gaia, that thing is larger then the last one !!" Io exclaimed before she was set down on the branch.

" Well I know Io like the back of my hand. We've known each other since we were youngins on the ranch. Plus I know Io has it under control most likely." Mercury said as he put a big soup pot over the fire and began to prepare fireside chili that was to be tonight's menu for members of the military. " Hmm I think the spiders are larger then cats here... probably the size of a good hunting dog. Though I have seen larger hanging around those natural mako deposits in the forest. " Mercury said with a smile.

 

"interesting enough" she said in her disguised voice before turning back to her own thoughts. ' hope I do not see one of those.....' she thought to herself. "So Atrice, you get bored of guarding these science nerds too?"

 

Nikolaj grinned as he stared at the giant creature that stood before him. " I prefer not to dirty my weapons, so I'll just make this very quick," said Nikolaj as he ran towards the spider. The spider charged him while Nikolaj just stood there, waiting for it to get closer, and when he had a close shot, he held out his hand and cast Blizzaga, and the beast slowly came to a halt as it was frozen into a big ice cube.

 

" Yes, but at least this bunch is more manageable ever since Sephiroth took Hojo on ahead to the Temple of the Ancients. Though after today we will catch up with them soon up at the temple." Mercury said as he let the chili pot simmer away on the fire.

" Okay I think that guy isn't going anywhere for a while. Lets get out of here before more of them show up." Io said as she hopped off the branch and reached down to pick up the hiking pack she had dropped earlier when she fell from the tree. She strung the bag up over her shoulder and then continued downhill into the brush. It took several minutes for Io to reach the camp and once she was there she set her bag down on one of the makeshift log benches near the campfire. " Hey look who's back." Mercury said waving to Io. Mercury was sitting on one of the logs with a bottle in his hand.

 

Nikolaj let out a breath, his dark green mako eyes focused on the creature. He then turned and started his walk back to camp, watching as Io walked out of sight. Suddenly losing balance, he caught himself by grabbing a nearby tree. He was out of breath,trying hard to sturdy himself. He let out a chuckle, "I guess I over did it again," he said as he slowly brought himself up. He then headed back to camp, hiding his exhaustion as he approached his fellow SOLDIER.

Meanwhile, a SOLDIER emerged from the brush where the young Infantryman stood a few seconds ago. He was tall, with slick black hair and pale-blue eyes. He carried a big sword on his back, and wore a somewhat grim expression upon his face. He walked to the waterfall and looked as the boy began falling. He began talking to someone who emerged behind him, "Zack, it's time for one of your first tests," he said as he took the massive sword off his back and lay it against a tree. He turned to the boy, "Take out those Bombs," he said quietly as he turned back to the waterfall. "Show me what it means to be SOLDIER," he said as he jumped over the side of the waterfall after the falling Infantryman. As soon as the SOLDIER jumped over the side, many Bombs burst from the shubbery and surrounded Zack.

 

Zack nooded. "right" he said as he ran at the monster. "I wont let you down!" he exclaimed as he began to slice at the beast with his standard SOLDIER sword.

Hiari sighed. She had a hard time keeping up the ruise that she was Tristan and not His twin sister.

 

Nikolaj glanced at Mercury as he entered the campsite, "I guess you were right," he said as he walked over to the other SOLDIER. He leaned up against a nearby tree, giving a small chuckle. "However, we SOLDIER need to be more careful about what we lead the scientists into. We knew before we started this mission that there were many dangerous creatures and deathtraps located in this massive forest. So just make sure to keep your guard up," Nikolaj said as he looked over at Tristan and Io.

The SOLDIER was soon plummeting down the massive waterfall after the unconscious Infantryman. He was rapidly approaching the Infantryman by holding his arms and legs in, which gave him an initial boost. He quickly prepared impact as he shielded the Infantryman before hitting the surface. The impact was tremendous for the SOLDIER, but he soon recovered and surfaced with the Infantryman on his back. He swam them both to the shoreline and inspected the Infantryman for any sort of injury. He picked up the Infantryman and threw him over one shoulder. He looked upon the top of the waterfall at Zack, "He should be fine," he thought to himself as he began walking back to the campsite.

 

" Well make sure you stick around tonight, we will dispatch to the Ancient temple early in the morning to meet up with Sephiroth and Doctor Hojo." Mercury said as he tended to the fire. Meanwhile Io seemed to be off in her own little world, her eyes hanging heavily as if she were going to fall asleep which was abnormal since she usually never broke a sweat when it came to hikes. " I think I might hit the sack earlier then I usually do." Io said as she yawned and began to nod off. Mercury noticed this odd behavior and rose a brow at Io. " Are you feeling alright Io?' Mercury asked as Io then passed out, nearly falling off the log. On Io's back was some kind of thorn that had come from a large poisonious plant that had been hiding in the bush Io had fallen in earlier. " Io !! . . .Damn shes poisoned. Should I get help?" Mercury said as he ran over to her and stood by her as she lay there unconscious.

 

Nikolaj looked surprised as Io fell to the ground, he ran over to her as Mercury scrambled around in panic. He kneeled down by her side to examine the thorn, he then gently picked her up, "If anyone is going to help her in her current condition, it should be Doctor Theissenwiser. You need to take Io to her," Nikolaj said as he looked to the doctor's tent. He placed Io in her friend's arms. He looked down at her quietly, "I'm not letting any of my fellow SOLDIER die today," he thought as he looked up at Mercury, "I'll stay here and keep guard, now hurry. "
