I personally can't read japanese, but critical mode and the data fights look awesome, so i really want to get this game, but i don't see how thats possible without knowing how to read jap. Choosing abilities/spells sounds like the biggest problem to me, so, is there anyone here who has played through this game without any problems and without knowing how to read jap?

Also, is there a link where Nomura confirms he will never release FM to america?

it's annoying as hell but possible, especially if you played the original KH2 game. anyways, there are guides to help out, like Rock-kun posted. i personally used Xaldin's guide (i'll post it, gimme a minute)

EDIT: i found this is all that i needed to get through

    http://www.kh-vids.net/showthread.php?t=13172

and as for the link to Nomura saying FM+ won't come to America, he DID say it, but i don't knwo where to find the link to that. when he was asked about FM+ releasing in America, he said that he did not schedule for it to be released.

thanks everyone, this looks like kind of a pain in the ass, but i think it'll be worth it...maybe.

I need to save up a little bit though for both the game and swap magic. Still not sure though. The data matches just seem so cool but dammit why can't SE just translate it >.<

I think i read somewhere about a "patch that would make the game english." was that ever finished?

Yeah, there was a translation ground called TransGen that released a partial patch for Re:CoM (when we used to think that it had no chance of coming, of course). But so far they've not expressed much interest on doing further KH translations and since they're focusing on other projects right now I wouldn't really count on seeing a Final Mix translation anytime soon. Don't expect it done for a while... The translation guide should be already more than enough anyway (not to mention that a patch could make the game glitchy and such).

All of the speech is in English. All items have pictures next to them (like in the original KHII) and if you remember the MP costs, you can check which Magic is which. And the Drive Form order is easy to remember. I only need the ability section of the Translator Guide above. So yes, you don't have to know any Japanese and you'll do just fine.

Also, a few of the text is understandable.

Abbreviations are kept as is. So you'll see "HP", "MP", etc. Numbers are kept too, so you'll see "50%", etc. This greatly helps to know what's what.
    "DRIVE" is also kept.

Synthing may look difficult, but because of the pictures, it's actually easy to get the hang of it. You know everything: what you need it for, what it does, etc.

I recommend you, if you get the game, to memorize a few symbols. I memorised the last symbol of "Shard", "Stone", "Gem", and "Crystal", which makes Synthing as easy as in English.

If only KH1FM was as easy... there aren't images, etc... and barely any guides.

I played KH2FM, without having played previously the KH2 in english. I could understand the sotry (except for the dialogs) since all cutscenes are in english. The only thing that I had difficulties was the menu. I could only change keyblades and weapons, I didn't know how to put abilities... and I finished the game without them, unless I had a couple equipped by chance.
