I agree way to many people have keyblades. But this dosent bother me to much just as long sora has the one and only true keayblade! Any other person had to be allowed by another keyblade wielder to get one, but sora got his because the universe chose him not because of ventus thats a missconception

Kinda. Sora's keyblade was originally Riku's. That's what made it so nice. Sora literally did what lots of villains tried, he stole someone's keyblade. lol

My gripe is why so many have keyblades now rather than there just being lots in general. I got to see Sora truly earn his which was great, TAV were set up in concept as wielders and Chi covers the keyblade war so lots of keyblades are default.
I however hate to just see them granted. Like, Riku's new one (WayToDawn) was granted off screen and then Kairi's was explained as a literal accident. I don't like that kinda thing, it's lazy.

It really irks me when people phrase what happened that way. I need to dig up the commentary on it, but the jist of what happened doesn't equate to Sora stealing the Keyblade. It was more like it chose him over Riku within that moment.

And it irks me when something small like this is taken a bit too seriously. Yes Sora didn't literally mug Riku and steal it but he did take it from him. You can dig in the commentary but we've all read them at this point. Sora gained it by accident in the brief exchange on the night Destiny Islands fell, Sora claimed it for real when he gave his friendship speech in Hollow Bastion. It's covered in the KH1 Ultimania while the KH1 Journal notes Riku was the one originally chosen.

It choosing Sora is it going from Riku's ownership into Sora's, it was taken from Riku in the manner in it's own volition. (which I referenced already by getting to see Sora earn it two posts up)

Please contribute to the topic rather than nitpicking small things like this.

The only one that bothers me personally is Lea. I don't care for his Keyblade design, and his Chakrams were a really neat weapon that suited him. As for Riku, his arc makes perfect sense, and regaining control of a Keyblade is totally fitting. He didn't lose it because of darkness: he lost it because his heart was weak. He was easily influenced be Ansem and Maleficent, overcome with jealousy, and struggled to hold on to his identity. But once Riku accepted himself, he was once again worthy.

As for Kairi, I'm not too worried about her being unique. I feel like Birth by Sleep (and DDD to a lesser degree) shows that people can have pretty substantial differences and specialties, even if they all wield a Keyblade. And with the introduction Keyblade transformations, there's even more potential to define those differences. My only worry with Kairi is whether or not she'll have enough time to shine. She's gained more and more agency with each game that she's in, I just hope she gains enough to be a significant player in KH3.

I've heard similar things said, and I don't think this is quite accurate.

Some people lamented that Sora used to feel special in KH1, but now it's explained that you can just "give" someone a Keyblade. And because of that, the Keyblade is no longer this mystical thing that chooses its master, so the magic is lost. But the thing is you can't just hand someone a Keyblade. Each Keyblade wielder still has to be special. There's clear evidence of that in the Passing of the Power ceremony:

"In your hand, take this Key.
So long as you have the makings,
then through this simple acting of taking
its wielder you shall one day be."

We've seen the Keyblade reject people before (Leon, Jack Sparrow, both Sora and Riku at certain moments), so clearly just touching it isn't enough. And while explaining how the proces does de-mystify it to a degree, I still think Keyblades have minds of their own.

There's no concrete evidence that Sora has the "one and only true Keyblade" as you say (though I won't totally dismiss that possibility). Like I said, every Keyblade wielder is special in one way or another. I think in Sora's case, it's his disposition of starting from nothing with no extraordinary talents. He's just "a dull, ordinary boy" as Xehanort phrased it. As far as we know, Sora doesn't have any divine calling or anything inherently superior about him. His ability to rise to the occasion and unite people is what makes him special.

I never said Riku lost his keyblade due to darkness. I did however love his development with darkness. To me, throwing that aside to give him a keyblade back made him less unique than he was prior. I will admit that my major issue with this is him getting a keyblade off screen. I stated I don't want them just given out but earned, so to this extent I disliked Riku's change.
If Riku had gained a new keyblade at the end of KHDDD after going through that final stage of development I probably would've considered it much differently because it was no longer him being given one off screen just cause but rather me seeing his development lead toward it.

I found BBS very homogeneous among the cast personally. They had some commands and styles unique to each player but overall they had access to a majority of the same spells, styles and even keyblades. I understand they couldn't give them different things entirely but I don't think BBS nor DDD anywhere near show substantial difference. You could argue combos are unique in BBS but they're so clunky and slow that I rarely use them due to aggravation.

For DDD specifically, I find it hard to count that at all. Sora and RIku were already established with unique specialties prior. In DDD they had access to most of the same spells, dream eaters and keyblades. How they used the dream eaters was different and each had a unique spell or two but I find it hard to add to this since it wasn't really adding to what was already displayed nor was it putting enough new/different between them.
Like Rikus dark firaga spell and aura are abilites he's had since KH1. Dark dodge was new but his dark barrier was a copy of Aqua's default guard. Sora had spark spells but his salvation (can't remember if DDD Sora had Faith) was something Ventus had.

I'm very conflicted on the transformations myself but there is possibility there for some unique flare but until I see it I'm skeptical. I'll also admit Kairi can still have some unique flare if she utilizes something more close to her like perhaps light spells and attack variants. Given the unique kinda being she is, I'd find it a horrible shame to yet again never touch on it. Regardless of how much screen time she's given.

I also wish Kairi had done something to earn the keyblade as well. I know that's hard to do since they've ignored her for so long but her gaining the keyblade by accident just opens up a huge can of issues for me. Both in terms of writing as well as my issues with the Ceremony and 'True Master' concepts BBS introduced.

To make a tangent here, I do wonder how much of a mind of it's own a keyblade has now. It could easily be argued that they simply react to their wielders will. Like how much of it's moments of self action was it doing something it deemed it needs to and how much was it simply opening the way for it's wielders desires? (like how Sora & Riku got into the Realm of Sleep, they wanted in and the keyblade let them once a way opened)

I can kinda understand what Zgermanguy means but I've never really worried about Sora having the only one either since KH1 basically ended with Mickey showing up with a second one, I do dislike the weapon being some promotion device for a character or to be handled in lazy fashion. I do find it really hard to agree that each wielder is unique but I'd wager this is a matter of opinion of which would be hard to find middle ground with many. (love hearing opinions though)

I just want to Point out that when I say Sora has "the one" keyblade I mean his is the one that matters most of all or rather it matters most that he has one

You mean for him to be the most important overall? If so I think you won't have to worry, I doubt they'll ditch Sora. After how much length DDD/BBS went through to show him having one at all was abnormal, I think that Nomura also tries to keep some aspect of that true.

No matter how one words it or how much I vent frustration like in the OP, there's no taking away that Sora became one through circumstance rather than some divine choice....well for now at least. (it'd take something really story damaging to take away the fact hat Sora claimed the keyblade of another as his own by his own efforts)
