    We are not unfamiliar with love;
    Thou know'st the rules thereof, and so do I.
    A full commitment’s all I can think of--
    Thou wouldst not so receive from other guys.
    My object in this speech is a request
    To tell thee of affections that I feel;
    For heaven’s name above would so be blest
    If thou turn’st not from my sincere appeal!

    I vow that I will never give thee up,
    Nor let thy dear visage come crashing down;
    I will not run in circles as a pup
    And leave thee by thyself alone to drown.
    I will not cause a tear to hence be shed,
    Nor leave my sense and bid to thee adieu,
    Nor spin deceits and woes to vex thy head--
    To thy good I vow always to be true!

    As Phoebus to and fro hath crossed the sky,
    Thy heart hath ached, but thou wouldst never tell--
    Yet we both know what thy face doth belie,
    And so our game continues as a spell.
    If thou wouldst think to ask me how I fare,
    O, fie! thy question wounds me! Be not trite,
    For just as soon thou wouldst before me swear
    That never in thy life hast thou had sight!

    I’ll never give thee up, nor let thee fall;
    I’ll run to thee if thou but my name call!

    it came to my attention shortly after sharing this with some other friends that a ~*true sonnet*~ has only fourteen lines so here's the ~*real*~ sonnet no. 1987

    We’re both familiar with the rules of love;
    Commitment’s my true dream, unlike yon knaves;
    I pray with all my might to heav’n above
    You understand you make my heart a slave!

    I’ll never give thee up, nor let thee down,
    Nor run around and leave thee so forlorn;
    I’ll never make a tear fall from thy crown,
    Nor bid adieu nor lie--thus I am sworn!

    As Phoebus to and fro hath crossed the sky,
    Thou spakest not of pain within thy heart--
    Yet both we see it’s there--still, ‘fore mine eye,
    Thou claim'st as though thy sight doth ere depart!

    I vow that I would treat thee as a queen,
    Yet ‘til thou wilt, my heart can only keen.
