Want a JRPG Without a Bunch of Teen Protagonists?

Play Final Fantasy IV The After Years, where half the cast is like a hundred years old

 

Not really related and I'm sure this has been said before
but why was Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns not called Lightning Strike Thrice?

 

There are so many good titles they passed up
I was holding out for Final Fantasy XIII Episode 3: Revenge of the Cie'th

 

FF6's protagonists aren't teenagers.

I thought they were just a bunch of thieves.

 

I was actually just thinking about how few JRPG's I knew of that didn't feature casts primarily under 21 years old lol

 

Well FFIVTAY is your game!
While there are some 16 year olds and such, it features a lot of the cast of FF4 that has aged 17 years since that game, so they're not just not teens, but middle aged, for the most part!

 

Daily reminder that Nier's protagonist was 44 years old, with a great party in general. If you didn't buy it, you deserve your teen party.

 

I mean, Cecil is 37 in FF4TAY, I'd say that's close enough

 

True, but TAY mostly just lived off of the hype from FFIV. Whereas Nier was one of Square's few new console IPs this gen, it probably left a bigger impression about what westerners want than TAY.

 

I don't remmeber hearing particularly good things about Nier, what can you tell me about it?

 

A big part of the game is actually the new game+, which adds a lot to the game and I am almost certain that reviewers never touched that before their review went up. I could write up a pretty big thing, but I need some sleep. This is pretty good at conveying why Nier is great.

 

Tifa is 20, Cloud 21, Aerith is 22, Vincent is 27, Cid is 32, Barret is 35, and Nanaki is 48.

The only teen in FFVII's main cast is Yuffie, at 16.
